It was a 3 hour trip (by train) when I left home to go to college in the Chicago area.

DH just went across town....he had a job in a local factory at the time.

Our boys:
1st DS went to college an hour away from home.

2nd DS went to college about an hour and a half away.

3rd DS went into the Air Force and lives 22 hours away (in Oklahoma).

And.....hugs to all you parents saying bye in the next few weeks! :grouphug:

College was about 3 hours away. I'm now living about 20 miles from where I grew up.

College was an hour away from home, when I graduated I moved five hours away (other side of the state).

I grew up in West Texas, after graduation went to boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois and immediately after was stationed in Sicily.

From Market Harborough to Rothwell about 8 miles and 20 minutes by car. Due to my "dad's bad financial history my mother (and for a short while until he died) moved in with me as they had to sell their home. For the last 4 years of her life my mother was fighting cancer a fight she lost last year but she lived with me until she died.

I was the first of my siblings to leave home. I went to college about 175 miles away, out in the middle of nowhere, AL. Two years later, my sister joined me and two years after her another sister joined us, then a third sister joined us. :rotfl: It was a small campus and everyone knew the "B____" girls

Other side of the world. Literally.

My parents lived in Eastern Africa when I left and went to Seattle, WA for college.

I moved three hours away but came home 2 years later. Then I married my dh and moved 3,000 miles away.

Moved about 3 hours away from home for college, then moved to Texas and Colorado for a few years, then back to the town I went to college in....still here 11 years later. :)

I went about 2.5 hours away, Chicago to Champaign, IL. DH went about 9 hours away from Tulsa, OK to Champaign.

I live at the Jersey Shore and I went to the straight across the state.....about 1 hour. But I came home to work every weekend.

I went to college 7hours away from home. Turned out to be just right, too far away to go home all the time or get unexpected visitors, but a manageable drive for holidays.

For the first year I was 4 hours away and miserable. Then I finished up school at my local university and haven't left since. :) Much happier here!

When I left home I had graduated from high school in June, and got married in September. Moved about 15 miles from where I lived with my parents. DH lived with his parents before we got married (he, too, had just graduated in June) and we moved to a house just around the corner from his parents' house so we were within a mile.

When our DS left home he, too, got married and moved to a town about 10 miles from us.

When DD went off to college she was about 30-minutes away. She didn't care for dorm living so moved back home and commuted, then when she got married she moved to a house about a quarter mile down the road from us. :)
