Crazy stuff coming out of Japan.

evacs. pills being sent to people.

In 1st and 2nd grade I went to a school that was so close to the Browns Ferry reactor in Alabama that we used to have nuclear drills.

Three Mile Island isn't too far from Hershey, I think of it every time we go.

I live less than 5 miles from the Fermi II plant in Newport MI.

Oh about 8 miles. Hubby works there. We keep KI in the cupboard. Gives you that nice warm and fuzzy feeling, doesnt it?:scared1:

I have no idea how far we are from one. Is there a map/website that shows the location of the nuclear plants?

We are about 1-1 1/2 hours from Berwick and have never once had any kind of drill, not even sure what we are supposed to do, if anything, if there is a problem. I suppose they figure we are far enough away not to be impacted if they have a meltdown.

Not close to a full blown plant, but way too close to a research facility. I worked there for a time, and the whole thing scares the bejeezus out of me.

Well, according to that, I'm in a 'lucky' state. I think that means that we have no nuclear plants. And, since I'm flat in the middle of the state, I guess the surrounding states don't affect me too much.

However, my DH (a pharmacist) said that he occasionally has people come in & buy iodine b/c we live close to a military base and they are afraid that someone could launch a nuclear attack there. :confused3

Actually that is the Berwick Nuclear power plant that is nearer to Hershey. Three Mile Island is in Pittsburgh.

Actually, isn't TMI near Harrisburg? That's halfway across the state from Pittsburgh. Are you sure?

50 miles. What is a safe distance?

We are about 25 miles...just closed enough to be royally screwed when the you-know-what-hits the fan. Though DH did a tour of the facility with his job and the plant CLAIMS to be able to withstand TWO 747's colliding into it, it's mostly underground and below the water level (it's on a lake) so they could cool it by opening the flood gates and flooding the plant.

Doesn't help me sleep at night.
