How Expensive

We are planning a trip to TDL and were wondering how much it will cost (approx) for us to stay at one of the resorts for 2-3 days. We are a family of 4. 2 adults 2 children ( didn't want to be outnumbered). Can anyone tell us how much it would be to stay per night, and also would it be less expensive to book it as a package or are there no discounts for packages. Our friend who travels to Japan regularly and who will be accompanying us said that everything in hotels is always priced al-carte so to speak. THe price for the room is charges per person etc and so on. Is staying on property going to be cost prohibitive for a family that usually stays at deluxe resorts with complete ticket package and meal plan for 8-10 days at a time?

Difficult to say. You'll need to work out when you're planning on being there, then go to the TDL website and check room rates - they vary considerably.

A room for 4 runs from $400/nt to $900/nt depending on location & season in the Disney Hotel.

We did Spring Break there last time. Uber busy with the Cherry Blossom and Tokyo Schools on their break too.

We just booked our air and Tokyo City parts of our next trip out there next summer. Now we just have to wait until the 6mth window to book TDL Hotels.

I am going in 2 years for my 50th birthday. As I have been researching, I did find out not to go when Japan schools are out and to really avoid Golden Week. You can google the dates for Golden Week.

Hi HM Lover, I don’t know how much flexibility you have with your Disney days but if you can visit midweek that’d be best; it can get crazy busy on the weekends.

Next April’s dates can’t be booked yet (they go up to March 3 right now), but you can see on their site some initial planning info; note that if you do want to try and stay at the resort I’d recommend making a preemptive booking online once they open up the dates; you can always cancel it later (up until a few weeks before arrival). And they fill up QUICKLY, so don’t delay if interested.

For planning purposes let’s say you’ll be visiting during a Value period.

Best case for a room sleeping 4 is starting around USD $400 per night at the Disneyland Hotel (http://www.disneyhotels.jp/english/reserve/tdh_price_e.html), $450 at the Ambassador (http://www.disneyhotels.jp/english/reserve/tdh_price_e.html), and $500 per night at Mira Costa (http://www.disneyhotels.jp/english/reserve/dhm_price_e.html).

For comparison, the nearby Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay is offering a room sleeping 4, checking in April 5 and checking out April 8, for around $220 a night.

If you stay at one of the resort hotels you can get their version of a park hopper pass good any day of your visit (otherwise the public tickets only have the “park hopper” kick in on the 3rd and 4th days). Ticket pricing for hotel guests is at http://www.disneyhotels.jp/english/guest_benefits/index.html — figure about $160 for each adult, and $100-$140 for each kid based on their age, for a 3-day ticket. (Public pricing is at http://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/ticket/multipass/index.html; you’re able to get these instead if you don’t care about the park hopper feature for the first 2 days.)

For dining at the parks, this site has some really good info on the types of things available and the prices — http://konnichiwamickey.wordpress.com/category/chow-time/. You can use that to help estimate food costs. One thing to keep in mind is portions are typically smaller than we’d run into in the US.
