I know this is a DVC board but It'd posted this in another forum and didn't get an answer. Mods, please feel free to move this if needed and forgive me -it's my first day on DISboards.

Can anyone tell me how hard it's going to be to trade into DVC from HGVC / RCI? It'd like to trade in June, if at all possible. I have enough points, according to the HGVC conversion scale but how hard will it be to find availability? Should I even bother trying? We need a Villa because of the size of our family; we also have younger children, so It'd prefer lodging that we can get back to easily via the WDW transportation system.

Any insight is welcome and most definitely appreciated.

PS: Please forgive any typos -I'm posting this from my phone.

The best place to find the information you seek is from your own timeshare. Their trading power within RCI will have a lot to do with what might or might not be available to you. If you are an RCI member, check the website and see what is available to you. Some resorts can pull up DVC trades easily, and others can't. THe reality is that trading in can be difficult if you need a specific unit size like a 2 or 3 bedroom. Studios and 1 bedrooms will be easier to get. Lots of DVC folks avoid the summer months, but since we are a point based timeshare rather than a specific week based one, that doesn't seem to effect availability of exchanges.

The bottom line is you wont know unless you try, and to try you have to start with your own timeshare exchange system (RCI).

You need to go take a look at the HGVC board over at tug. Here's a link:

You may already be too late for June 2010 unless you catch a cancellation. HGVC seems to trade into DVC quite well but you need to start looking at around 11 to 10 months out. There are quite a few people that have been buying HGVC points instead of DVC since it's a much cheaper upfront cost (if bought resale) and works wonderfully from what I'm hearing to book DVC resorts through RCI. I had thought about buying some HGVC points, but knowing my luck, DVC would switch back to II if I did (laughter). Trading other resorts through exchanges to get DVC can feel like a dog chasing its tail sometimes.
