how early is too early for kids to be outside playing

There are no official "quite" hours in our neighborhood.

I'd say 7am is probably early and not something that goes on around here often....but by 8am, many people are up and around and it's not uncommon to have kids playing, lawns being moved etc.

By 9am...most of the outdoor summer sports have games starting at local soccer and baseball fields.

So -- I'd say yes 7am is probably a little early....but have to laugh at those that think kids shouldnt be out until at least 10.

We live in a townhouse development so neighbors are pretty close to one another . I remember when dd was little not letting her out to play until 9 on the weekends unless I saw that neighbors were out and about.

Anyway, I was out a bit a ago (about 7am) walking the dog. No other neighbors were out but I kept hearing a loud frequent banging noise down the street. I took a peak and there was a young kid shooting hoops on the driveway. I figured he got up early and his parents sleep like the dead. Then I saw his dad standing in the garage and thought WTH:confused:. Glad they aren't near us.

So what do you think? Too early?

'The' Answer?? A great 'noise' machine!! We use one every night no matter how quiet. We live on acre plus lots so it's not normally a noise issue, but occasionally a barking dog.

The machines work great, just don't get 'cheapies' - they have repetitious cycles that drive me nuts. Anyway that will solve your problems!! :)

Laugh all you want but 10:00am was the rule in my house when I was a kid, in the 70s. I'll continue to err on the side of caution when it comes to politeness.

I let my kids play outside and make noise at 9am on weekends.
DH doesn't start mowing until 10am.

I'm not a fan of basketball hoops so anytime would be too early for those. That constant thud, thud, thud gets on my nerves fast. I am so thrilled our neighbors hoop broke - no more of that annoying noise until they fix it or replace it. :woohoo:

Last Saturday, a family was out riding bikes at 8am. I heard lots of talking and giggling on the street so I stuck my head out the front door and the Dad yelled sorry for the noise! and off they went.
That wasn't bothering me at all other than me being curious since I knew they couldn't be from our neighborhood because none of us are out that early except my neighbor who likes to mow his lawn at 7am on Saturday mornings.

I think it really depends on the neighborhood - we lived in one noisy one (everyone seemed to be up and about by 7am every weekend but us. LOL) and this one that is quiet until around 10am usually except for the one neighbor.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 10am seems perfect to me. I would not let my daughter out in the yard making noise until then either.
The sound of a basketball bouncing over and over is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Been lucky, been in this house 31 years, never had an issue with kids out early. Now, kids out playing basketball at 11 pm, or LATER, yes, I have had problem.

And we have had 3 incidents of under 21 year olds being left alone for the weekend and having wild parties until the wee hours. Somehow I slept through those since my bedroom is in the back, but my kids didn't. The sheriff handled all those. The last one the dad got a little upset with all of us on the street, until the deputy came by and pointed out that NONE of the 30 complaints they got about the part were from anyone on our street.....and one was from someone 4 blocks away.:scared1:

Around here, atvs start rolling out between 5:30 and 6:00 in the morning. It is not unusual to hear tractor engines come to life at day break. Next month, with the opening of deer season, things will come to life a little sooner so the guys can go to the woods. My mom and I will pick up more of the jobs usually done by the guys so they can enjoy themselves. In the summer it's too hot to do much after 12 or 1 anyway so things get started really early.

I'd love to have quiet time from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm during deer season. That's right when the guy next to us likes to run his chain saw. :worried:
