How does vandalism and looting accomplish anything???

I read somewhere that he was asked to come to Ferguson by members of the the community.

In any case, neither Al Sharpton nor Jessee Jackson can do right in some people's minds. Either they are too involved or not involved enough. They are darned of they do and darned if they don't. It also seems to be that their mere names carry deep negative meanings for some folks, like a dog whistle that the rest of us can't hear.

Dog whistle?

That has a totally positive connotation. If you feel my posts are racist, then say so.

I just finished watching Al Sharpton's speech at the Greater St. Marks Family Church in Ferguson, Missouri today. He had some good things to say but he also rabble roused. Much of what he said was political and I can't go into that.

I don't even bother to watch him anymore, because it's the same thing all the time.

White cops murdering black kids has to stop.
The government has to create more jobs and provide more opportunities.
Oh, and if you have some cash, please send it my way.

I read that the citizens of Ferguson told him to go home.

As for why Jesse & Al can "do no right", it's decades of self-promotion & bigotry (Al in particular) that have defined who they are. It's one thing to stick your foot in your mouth on occasion, and it's another to preach hatred for a generation. They're an embarrassment to humanity. We told David Duke to go away & never come back. Folks are finally starting to do the same with these two clowns.

Speaking only for myself I despise them both because they have made a career (and millions of dollars for themselves) out of dividing the races. If a white, hispanic, or asian person made speech after speech about how another race has kept them down and is the cause of all their problems they'd rightfully be labelled the worlds biggest racist and ran out of town. Al and Jesse have been doing that for decades and are held up as spokesman and pillars of the community. It's a double standard and nothing positive comes from it, I think the 2 of them have done more to keep racism alive than any other 2 people on the face of the planet.

Lisa, I don't know what's in your heart of hearts and I never said anything about you or anyone else being racist .

Well in case you aren't aware, the mention of the dog whistle has a connotation. When mentioned in such context, the meaning tends to bebe indicative that the white people are having a problem only for racial reasons.

If that is not what you meant, I apologize.

:thumbsup2 How I feel about them as well. Not only are they two of the most racist people, but they take advantage of the people they are protecting for their own financial gain over and over. Just look at JJ son...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this case:rolleyes2

Great post! I forgot about JJ son. You are right the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! I wish they would just go away!

The use of "thugs," "animals," as well as bringing Sharpton and Trayvon into the discussion sure fit the definition of dog whistle . . . It's every bit as clear as the lines Lee Atwater concocted.

I thought political discussions are forbidden?

Watching the protesters. They're blocking traffic, vandalizing Wal Mart and then complaining when the police use tear gas and are trying to clear the area.
McDonald's employees had to lock themselves in a store room when protesters overran the restaurant.

I always find it interesting when these "incidents" happen that people firmly decide that an 18 year old is a man instead of a kid. In my circles, when a kid turns 18 sure they are legally an adult but for all intents and purposes they are still a kid.

My daughter just turned 18 this month and just graduated from high school 2 months ago. There is no way I would call her a full grown woman! She is still a kid. She still needs my support, guidance and protection. Sorry but Michael Brown was a kid. He may legally have been an adult but he was a kid.

Doesn't mean kids can't be criminals and clearly they must deal with the consequences of their actions. But how many people who are calling him a MAN would consider their own child a full grown adult as soon as they reach age 18. He was a kid, an 18 year old kid.

Sorry. Just one of my pet peeves.

He was old enough to vote. To join the military without parental approval. To buy cigarettes and XXX items. To get a credit card or car loan in his name. He was an adult.

JFTR, I have 2 adult daughters. One will be 25 next week, the other is 21. Both were on their own at 18---with our emotional support, and for guidance when they asked for it, but supporting themselves. Both of their husbands have been on their own since turning 18 as well. SoIL #1 is 28 and has his masters in psychology; SoIL #2 is a Marine, on deployment right now.

Mr. Brown, 18, was also shot four times in the right arm, he said, adding that all the bullets were fired into his front.. 2 were to his head.

However, the New York Times, reporting on the same independent autopsy, reported that two of the bullets struck Brown in the head. The other four struck him in the right arm -- and all six were fired into his front.

Huh? But wait...he was running away...how...he was shot in the back...wait..what?

"This is bound to escalate tensions," the Rev. Jesse Jackson told CNN. "This is a very provocative report."

Provocative as in it sure doesn't match the story that's been told for the past week.

Truth can be provocative if it is not what people want to hear.;)

Yup. In particular, I'm getting really tired of the term "thugs" being used every time someone wants to talk about their gun rights or "justifiable" homicide.

Ron Johnson had a mini press conference at 1:15 am. Basically because of shootings, throwing of Molotov cocktails, looting, and other violent acts, there was a tele-conference with Johnson, St. Louis City Police Chief, a couple of other police officials, and Governor Nixon. They discussed ways to "quiet the violence." We'll probably hear about those actions today.

I'm thinking the curfew hours will be expanded. Some reporters were asking about calling in the National Guard. Johnson did not say no to that but he didn't act enthused either.

Edited to add:
Governor Nixon has sent the National Guard to Ferguson to help "in restoring peace and order".

It discredits a few eyewitnesses but unfortunately doesn't offer anything conclusive and still doesn't answer what happened.

With all the bullets entering in the front it contradicts the story he was shot while running away and is consistent with the report he was charging towards the officer but is also consistent with him being shot after he turned around to surrender. The final shot being in the top of the head doesn't help either because as the Dr stated it could be from charging or kneeling down to surrender.

Hopefully the other autopsies can pinpoint trajectory, distance, or some other unknown otherwise I don't think we'll ever know what really happened, which is probably the worst possible outcome for peace returning to Ferguson.
