How does vandalism and looting accomplish anything???

Very well said, and I agree.

I was watching "Meet the Press" this morning, and one of panelists stated that blacks comprise 13% of the population, 50% of the murder victims, and that 90% of those murders are committed by another black person. He couldn't figure out why so little national attention is focused on those stats. And why there weren't marches and protests in Chicago, where I believe he said there were 26 shootings this weekend.

If you really want to focus of this to not be race, not bringing up racial issues yourself would be a good way to start.

OT, but I live outside chicago and sadly death is a constant on our local news. It is sad and heartbreaking and in those cases it is so often an innocent child at a sleepover or a child playing outside who gets hit by a stray bullet. So awful to live in an area where just sitting near a window or wall could lead to your death. I don't know what the answer is, but I can't see how much longer the situation in Chicago can go on.

I have repeatedly stated on here about women and children in the inner cities of Chicago are murdered every weekend. Not one peep from Al.

Sidebar, how did the new MTP host do?

It's horrible.

When I see Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or the New Black Panthers leading protest marches in towns and cities with high rates of black-on-black murder is the day I'll believe that they care about the actual deaths of black citizens more than they care about the race of the shooter.

To be fair, he posted actual statistic and rather than address them, you advise to not discuss race at all. Seems to be the common response to such statistics.

Now while that particular factoid he shared is irrelevant to why Mike Brown died, you didn't say that.

I always find it interesting when these "incidents" happen that people firmly decide that an 18 year old is a man instead of a kid. In my circles, when a kid turns 18 sure they are legally an adult but for all intents and purposes they are still a kid.

My daughter just turned 18 this month and just graduated from high school 2 months ago. There is no way I would call her a full grown woman! She is still a kid. She still needs my support, guidance and protection. Sorry but Michael Brown was a kid. He may legally have been an adult but he was a kid.

Doesn't mean kids can't be criminals and clearly they must deal with the consequences of their actions. But how many people who are calling him a MAN would consider their own child a full grown adult as soon as they reach age 18. He was a kid, an 18 year old kid.

Sorry. Just one of my pet peeves.

Doesn't matter to me if it's relevant or not. It just seems counterproductive to say you don't think this is about racism and you wish that wasn't the focus and then keep bringing up Al Sharpton or racial issues and statistics.
I'm not saying don't discuss race. I'm saying don't say you don't like the racial focus all this has and bring up race all in the same post.

We'll agree to disagree.

Um, I'm not the one that brought up race.

Not initially but you keep bringing it up. Perhaps if you stop responding to those racial comments, instead of responding with your own, you will get what you want (at least in this thread) and take the focus off race.

Brown was the size of an NFL lineman. He may not have been fully mature, but he certainly was "grown", which is the point folks were making.

The people of Ferguson and the civil rights "leaders" that have descended on the town like locusts, as well as some posters on this thread, have made this incident about race. It's all about a white cop shooting a black man.

I don't think it should be about race, however, I'm absolutely going to point out the glaring hypocrisy.

Personally--he isn't a child and that is how he was being referred to from the beginning attempt those who attempt to characterize him ask innocent.

Visually, physically, legally, and biologically he was not a child.

It is sad he died young, but your pet peeve doesn't change reality. He was a fully grown man who used his size to intimidate those much older than he was as he demonstrated in the surveillance tape at the store.

I always find it interesting in these incidents when youth is used as evidence the person could do no wrong.

Keep pointing out their hypocrisy by complaining about race being brought up and bringing up race yourself. :thumbsup2

I've seen 13 and 15 year olds his same size. Are they grown too? Sure, he was a large kid. But his size is not a determination of his status. He was a kid. Just like my daughter is still a kid, albeit a much smaller one.

Thanks for being the spokesperson for everyone calling him a man but I doubt everyone means the same thing. I say this because even when "incidents" have happened when the kid wasn't as big as Michael Brown, there are people who want to classify them as men.

He brought up a fact mentioned on a show hosted by Andrea Mitchell. If you don't like the fact and find it is racially motivated, have you any fact to counter it other than to say it shouldn't be discussed?
