You know who should lose their job once and for all? Al Sharpton. He's a disgrace and he keeps fueling the fire over this. He does nothing for the problem just incites African Americans. He's a farce that incites violence. Incidentally, he was no where to be found when young children and adults in Chicago were slaughtered over the July 4th weekend. NOTHING. Why? Because he is a race baiter.

The thing that says a lot about the protesting and the looting is the people who are the most hurt are the ones asking for calm- Brown's parents. They were helping to clean up the mess the looters have made at different stores. His parents didn't like the fact that the video was released but they didn't go out and destroy property because of it.
What will happen if there is a trial and other things might be released that show Brown in a bad light. Hopefully, there's nothing but it if there is will that be a good excuse to destroy more property and hurt more innocent people?

Screw the DoJ - Chief Jackson doesn't answer to them.

The video goes directly to the actions of Michael Brown just 10 minutes before he was shot. While the officer didn't know that Brown was a suspect when he initially stopped him (and what a dumb criminal - rob a store, and then draw attention to yourself by walking down the middle of the street), Brown didn't necessarily know that the officer was unaware. We don't know, and may never know, whether or not the crime he had just committed had anything to do with how he reacted when stopped by Officer Wilson. But to pretend that we know for certain that it was totally unrelated is ridiculous.

Chief Jackson was absolutely right to release the video - after almost a week of this young man being portrayed as practically a Boy Scout, the public deserved to know the truth about him.

You know who I feel especially sorry for... the little dude at the convienience store, first he gets pushed around when his store was robbed (from the infamous video)... then his store gets looted as vengeance for the video.
Many innocent shop owners are being hurt also by the looting.

I feel even sorrier for the Quik Stop store owner whose business was burned and had "Snitches get stitches" spray painted on the shell of the building because hooligans thought the manager of the store called 911 and reported the robbery.

It would be great if that happened, but never does. Here in Texas, to combat affirmative action, the GOP legislature created the "Top 10" rule...basically saying if you were in the top 10% of your graduating class, you got the first slots at state schools, and the schools could use whatever factors they wanted to fill the few remaining slots. The idea was to let merit win out...sounds great right? Should make everyone happy right? I liked it, but parents in the affluent suburbs have been lobbying to create a tiered system saying their schools shouldn't be limited to the top 10% because their kids work harder.

With that I am going to remove myself from the rest of the thread...I should have avoided it to start with, I didn't sign up on DIS for these discussions, I'll save those for family holidays... hope I avoided personally attacking anyone here...but I am going to stick to vacation planning tips and movies and video games.

I saw this too. Don't really know what to make of that. My gut tells me that it takes a huge amount of guts and probably just as much stupidity to go against the DOJ. They have some experience in matters like this.

IMO, this DoJ is so politicized as to be completely unreliable when it comes to making decisions on matters such as this. My bet is that they were far less concerned with what the effect on the populace would be than they were with the fact that real Michael Brown would be shown. The video pretty blew away the "gentle giant" narrative.

There is a twitter campaigned called #iftheygunnedmedown . NPR interviewed some of the people who posted with that hashtag earlier this week.

"Many of the tweets containing the hashtag juxtapose two images of the same person in very different contexts — reading a book in one, say, while blowing smoke and flashing a hand gesture in the other. The paired images effectively but implicitly present many questions about how we choose the images that come to represent the individuals we cover, and the effects of those choices."

I've referred to him as a thug a number of times in thread, but it had nothing at all to do with the how he dressed, the way he looked or any of the still photos of him that have been shown. That stuff doesn't matter to me in the least.

My assessment that he was a thug was based solely on his actions in the video - stealing and assaulting a store clerk.

Actual evidence, forensic evidence, should be able to tell the story.

I just read an a account from the officer's POV with alleged witnesses to back it up. If there is credence to the account, it isn't the cold blooded killing as depicted. As I'm not sure the veracity of the claim or the background of the website that has it posted, I can not link it here. But it is interesting. It could also be fiction.

But remember, there were many witnesses that day. And you nor I were one of them.

Also, there are calls for the officer's death, now. Why is this okay?

I will wait for the investigation. I think, many of the eyewitness accounts are perhaps a bit biased. The majority of the community seems to strongly dislike law enforcement.
