How does the waiting list work?

We have booked at our home resort for September but ideally would like BCV. Now if they put our name on a waiting list what exactly happens? Do we get contacted by them or do we have to chase them when the 7 month window appears?

I believe you can't get on the waiting list until your have reached the 7 month window. But basically you keep your ressie at your home resort and when you reach the 7 month window you tell member services you want to get on the wait list at BCV for the week planned. Ask them to put you in day by day. This way when a day comes up they will reserve it for you. Member services are suppose to call you but I found that if you contact them sporatically they can let you know and sometimes days pop up while your on the phone with them. The other thing to consider, and more experienced DVC owners may correct me, make sure you have enough points to cover this. If your confirmed for your home resort those points are booked, so when you go day by day at BCV you need more points to cover the days you reserve there.

The "Member Guidelines" I received when I purchase in 2000 say that DVC "Member Services will research requests until 30 days before the requested reservation is to begin. A member must call or write Member Services to continue searching for a reservation during the thirty days before the requested arival date." I also personally learned that they stop searching for a match totally 7 days prior to your arrival date. This happened to me twice when I was waitlisted for a different size room at Vero Beach. I only became aware of this procedure because I kept calling every month or so. Call member services and ask about this policy - rulles can change and I would advise you call often even if you are told you will be notified. Hope this helps you.
