How does the wait list for HHI work?

We just bought into DVC last fall, and we thought we'd use this year's points to go to HHI in August. However, it appears that the entire resort is completely booked except for Fridays and Saturdays for the entire month. The DVC rep suggested we get on the waitlist, but what are the odds that we'll actually get a two-bedroom villa for a Sunday-Thursday stay? Since our kids don't go back to school I thought maybe we could try for Labor Day weekend, is it possible we'll be able to get that? The kids had checked out the information for HHI and were really looking forward to going, which was a big surprise since they originally were disappointed when we suggested we go somewhere other than WDW with our first year's points.

It wont hurt to try the waitlist. We have friends here in GA who bought into DVC last spring at SSR. They wanted to do HHI in June and had no idea that it would be full, they had not yet learned the logisitcs. They got on the waitlist and they got a week in June about 3 or 4 days before their waitlisted arrival date. They tossed the stuff and the kids (all 4 of them) into the car and off they went. So it can happen but i would have a "plan B" just in case.

The weekends at HHI are proportionally higher than the onsite DVC resorts. I was surprised at how much higher they are.

I would try the waitlist. I've heard that the 2 beds are the last to book because there are many more of them.

Most people purchase HHI and use their 11 month window. It is a small resort and difficult to secure 7 month reservations in the summer months.

I was able to get in at 7 months for Memorial Day weekend, but it was day by day as soon as the lines opened or I would not have been able to reserve.

Buy where you want to stay has been the DVC mantra - especially at HH in the summer.

Okay, here is a bit of off center thinking.... wait until the fall and get your rooms then... Get the kids to look forward and work hard to having their schoolwork ready to let them take off....

Sounds easy... but if you can do it, you can have an easy and wonderful stay anywhere in WDW. The best times can be during the school year.

I feel your pain. I tried to book a studio or 1 bedroom at HHI for basically any Sun-Fri in May or June and there was no availability. Lesson learned. I'm considering a Thanksgiving trip...booking day by day.

Since you have until August, I would do the waitlist for now. If you decide to make other plans, you can always cancel them.

Well, since our kids don't go back to school until after Labor Day, we ended up doing 4 nights over Labor Day weekend rather than 5 weeknights earlier in the month. I realize that it costs more points this way, but I'm one of those people who need to be able to plan ahead and the waitlist just doesn't do it for me. However it works out, I'm sure we'll have fun! And, since we're doing this trip using 2007 UY points, we still have the 2008 points for a trip to WDW.

We were there Labor Day '06 and had a great time. They will have lots of activities over the weekend including the BBQ. Can't remember the cost but we really enjoyed it. Good food, contests, pool party - a great evening.
