How does Disney get away with this (CM related)?

Yes, she does get paid by the hour so she'll have a decent check. She's done it before so I know she can do it, it's just that cumulatively working this many hours can't be good for you physically. Her job is in attractions and she's on her feet the whole time.

Hard work never hurt anyone...Be happy she has a job.
 
After the holidays, she will be begging for those hours and they will be long gone.
 
I thought WDW employees belonged to a union. The work hours should be stipulated in their contract.

As much as I do understand the "She should be glad she has a job" train of thought - are you (who say this) seriously saying you wouldn't be thinking "CRAP!!!" if you saw a 90+ hour schedule??? Really??

Sure - it'll be a helluva paycheck - but me personally? I'd rather have my regular ol' pay check and have a life (and sleep!) instead.

I wouldn't be happy, nor would I be rubbing my hands together imagining all the goodies I'll buy with my big honking check. I'd be like this: :eek:

They used to do the same thing when I worked for them. Long hours and cheap labor. Not much you can do about it unfortunately. If you're lower down that's the way it goes. That's why I left. It's not worth being sick and tired over

And I don't care what people say at 7.21 an hour I won't be making "a lot" of money at all.

90+ hours isn't the norm, even for holiday times. She must've signed up for extra hours and got more than she bargained for. She does have the option of giving some shifts away. People will take them!

Well anything over the 8 hour time period in the day would be over time or 10.81 per hour. That is an extra 550 for the week.

For a CP or standard hourly Disney CM that is a lot.

And Disney has some additional overtime rules that I don't remember. But there is shift differential pay and opportunities for double time that she might fall into.

I spent nearly 10 years working for Disney in various capacities and I totally agree, CM's like overtime! Which is why the hours scheduled, to me, seems pretty normal for a holiday week.

The author remembered all the 'rules' better than I did so her check extra should be more than I calculated. I also didn't account for any shift differential overtime.

In my 1st post on this thread I talked about my 17 hour NYE. The linked article brought back great memories of that night.

I know that my daughter was on the College Program in 2003. She took all the hours that she could get. She worked at the Studios and worked through a lot of the late night parties there.

Sorry, I didn't realize that the OP's daughter was in college. I thought her sig. said she was a full time CM. Not sure what the impact of working for Disney at $7.21 will have on a resume though.

I'd be tired. I wouldn't be too thrilled about it.
 
I have never heard of a job making someone work over time. They usually ask first and then schedule it, or atleast this how has been in my jobs.

She is going to have a amazing paycheck esp right at Christmas

Actually there is a huge misconception that if you work a job for Disney it gives you some big boost or something. The fact that I worked in one of their restaurants really didn't help me get a job at any other place. It will certainly help if you're trying to get another Disney job but not really for a different part time job. They really don't care

See, I've had the opposite experience. Every job I've interviewed for since working for Disney has wanted to talk about what I did at Disney. It has dominated every interview I've been on.

My DH, who was a CP more than 15 years ago mentioned it once while interviewing when were moving back to orlando and that interview turned into a Disney discussion. He is far too removed and doesn't include it on a resume but I have and people always ask about it.

Same here - ever since my College Program it's ALWAYS been a topic of conversaiton in subsequent job interviews!

I think at 11 years post-program (now) it would be the first time I'd actually probably take it off my resume...
