How do you say beignets?

With apple filling there called bayn yees (phonetic)

Without apple there just oil balls. :lmao::lmao: No kidding.
I'm sorry but that's how there called in Europe. :lmao::lmao:

New years eve a make around 200 beignets for the whole family but by the time I'm done I call them those darn ........... :rotfl:

Brooke - Other words that I love to get visitors to say...pirogue, fais do-do, lagniappe, laissez le bon temp rouler...

I could go on and on, but I need to do-do...That's means sleep...lol...

Funny how we still use those sayings in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (Acadiens). I would like to hear how the pronunications have changed since the Expulsion.

I say "been-yay" - I just couldn't change it, I'd picture my high school French teacher's stern frown everytime! :rotfl2:

Brook...I should have know you'd be postin' in a cajun thread. You and your chickory coffee/beignets.
wtpooh from TGM

I usually pronounce them "Cafe Du Monde" (seriously, ben-YAY).

"Well the coffee is strong at the Cafe Du Monde, and the donuts are too hot to touch,
but just like a fool when those sweet goodies cool, I eat till I eat way to much.
'Cause I'm living on things that excite me, be they pastries or lobster or love...."

Jimmy Buffett- The Wino and I Know.

That picture you posted Brook looks like the counter at Morning Call - is it? I love beignets and coffee - I just had them a few weeks ago while visiting my grandma in New Orleans. We never got around to trying them at POFQ, sounds like we didn't miss anything :rotfl:

It looks that way to me too :goodvibes
It was not my photo. It was a google find so peeps who didn't know what they looked like would be able to see them. Personally, i am a CC gal myself :thumbsup2

I agree about POFQ ~ its one of the reason I refuse to stay there. I would be comparing it to the real thing all week.

I love a good cajun teach. It is definitely very different. My MIL & FIL still speak cajun french to each other when they don't want any of us to fully understand everything. They grew up in Pointe-aux-Chenes - WAY down the bayou.

After reading this, I may have to take a trip to Cafe-du-Monde sometime soon. May be we can go to the aquarium and make a detour to get some beignets.

Brooke - I will tell you. Can't stay at POFQ either - too familiar. I did however go on a trip once and my friend wanted to stay at POR more than anything else. Where did they put me? Alligator Bayou. My DH is from Chauvin. I am from Theriot, and we live in Houma. Needless to say, it was a bit too reminiscent for me to enjoy it like others.

ok, so I have had both in POFQ and Cafe du Monde....and they're both good people! :-D Who doesn't like fried dough with sugar on it?!?!?! hahahahah

And just a tip for the future beignet eaters.....if you don't like a heavy breakfast before the parks, my mom and I split an order of 6 for breakfast and it suits us perfectly :) Don't knock it till you try it :)

Sorry for the late response. I was at Nicholls from 1998 to 2003 (the ever popular 5 year plan). My wife went there from 2001 to 2005. When were you there?

Can't let this thread continue without this one...
