How do you pronounce Christmas?Since the word "halloween" is a contraction of "Hallow's Eve," the night before the Christian holy day, "All Hallow's Day," It'd think it should be pronounced HAL-oween, like you'd say hallow.
Maybe it is an accent thing. I pronounce it HOLL-oween. Like Hollow. To me haul sounds like HALL. Or I should say that I say it like HALL.

Southerner here.....HAL--O--WEEN. Like All Hallow's Eve. Not All Hollow's Eve.Hal as in All Hallows' Eve. I'm curious. Are the people who say Haul-o-ween southerners? I think people in the south pronounce certain vowels longer like up north we say pee-cans for pecans and in the south they say pi-kaahns
Like a PP, I say it in a way that sounds like the beginning of hollow, which does sound different than the way I pronounce the word haul. Not a lot, but noticeable. I'm from Michigan.
Well, I voted that I said Hal-o-ween; however, after reading the later posts about Hollow-ween, that's how I say it. I know it's definitely not "Haul" though, which has the sound of "all" or "augment".
