How do you keep colors from bleeding

I've made a lot of shirts, some bleed, some don't.... But the ones I just made have a LOT of black, and that tends to bleed when it gets wet. Any ideas how to prevent this?

I use quality transfers from amymickey.com. They have never bled and last through many many washes.

We've made shirts for many of our trips, and I've found if I will prewash them, then spray them with a stain repellent product (a tip from KristineR) a few minutes after ironing the transfer on, that helps a lot.
