How do you justify?

Well we have decided against it. We *may* end up staying deluxe, but if we do it will be from renting DVC points. BUT that won't be the Poly, which is where I really want to stay. If somehow we find a 40% code then we might. If not, we are staying moderate, and we are OK with that! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much everyone for your help, all of the responses were really great and helpful.

We never justified it UNTIL we were debt free. House paid off, everything! Honestly we still like the mods best and the values are fun if they only had queen beds.

You will have a great time either way, I have stayed at WL (3X) Poly and POFQ and each one was different, but we had a great time at all of them!

Just wanted to add, I REALLY always to wanted to stay at the Poly (since I was a little girl) and I did love it, but not as much as I love WL. You might surprise yourself and end up loving another resort even more. :)

I couldn't justify it.

I could afford it, too. But the incremental enjoyment I would get from staying at a Deluxe just isn't worth the money to me. We are at the parks way too much of the time for me to feel like we'd gotten a good value from a Deluxe.

I'm not much on lavish spending. There aren't many luxuries that really appeal to me. I'd rather do something more moderate and keep the difference in the retirement fund.

I agree. I've walked around a couple of the deluxes. I didn't feel like I was missing anything staying at a value, so there would have been no value in staying somewhere more expensive for me.

I think luxuries are worth it if they really mean something to you, but if they don't it's just spending more money.

and honestly, if you REALLY think about it, you're going for the parks. The hotel isn't going to make or break your trip. No matter where you stay at Disney, you're going to have a magical time. I'd take staying at a Disney resort (any one of them) over staying off site any day of the week.

Don't go into it like "you're missing something".....you can go to the Poly for dinner or to watch the fireworks...but whatever resort you decide on, you're going to make your own magic. I love POR just as much as I do GF. They're both magical for different reasons.

I hope you have a really wonderful time. :grouphug:

Here's a thought I just had - I plan DIsney trips obesessively. We stay deluxe (but WL or whatever I can get at lowest price, rent points etc) or rent a gorgeous house off site if we can get other families to go in with us. I always kep the cost down and our trips are always around $1500-2500(at very highest)/week for everything (airfare to souvineers) for family of 4 (but one child has been under 3 until now).
My DH and are are looking at going to a long weekend trip to San Diego for my work conference (none of which is reimbursed by my work) which he and my boss are planning to party most of the time I think. I added it up and it will be $3000 at minimum for the 2 of us for 5 days. And this isn't even some fabulous hotel. I just said - here I want to stay at the contemporary or Poly but never do becuase I can't justify the cost and you are reserving some stupid basic hotel for $349 a night (there's really nothing else avaialble). I really plan obsessively to get the best deals for Disney but then I planned too late for this thing and am stuck with $300 hotel and $600 airfare - I want to say forget it and save the money for disney!!

Everyone is different. We stayed at the GF a few years ago for 8 nights. It was our Christmas gift to ourselves. We got a really good deal. The kind you can't find anymore. I would do it again in a heart beat, if we could find a half way decent deal. For us, staying on the monorail line is the bomb. FWIW we don't ever take the busses either, can't stand them. Some people love it, I won't do it, I refuse, but that is us.

People here buy things that I would never purchase, such as DVD's of movies, they go to movies, I refuse to do that.

WE are a family of 5, we usually stay at POFQ. This is our favorite. We did stay in a value family suite, All Star Music. NEVER AGAIN. We all hated it.

If you can't justify it, or don't want to , then don't. It is your vacation. Spend where you want to and don't where you don't want to.
