We have always rented a car and have never relied solely on Disney Transportation for our vacations. After several hours on the computer today researching rental cars, discount codes, AAA discounts, MouseSavers discounts, etc... I have come to the conclusion that perhaps we might give Disney Transportation a try. That $300 we would spend on a rental car might be better spent on an Annual Pass (we will need to purchase 4 AP's this year)! We will be staying at VWL over the Easter Break so I know it will be very busy. The whole idea is making me very nervous, but I am willing to give it a try. Thought I would take a quick poll to see what most people do for transportation!

THANK YOU! :goodvibes

Imo...disney transportation is the best! We love the "break" while in disney not having to drive, park, etc...it is one of the best parts for us :) we also meet the nicest families while "traveling" thru disney. We have taken every mode possible: Bus, monorail, boat, ferry, etc... The savings adds up for the rental car, gas, parking, etc...

After we return home, we sometimes forget how to drive :). We haven't had a car on property in a long time...since we first started traveling to WDW together. It's so nice not having to worry about driving and getting lost. Plus if we partake in adult beverages we are not drinking and driving.

Next trip in October (after our Feb. trip), we are driving down. DH said he missed the roadtrip we used to take :confused3 and we will have more time to travel. It will be nice to be able to pack the truck up with groceries, ect instead of worrying about luggage issues.

Typically just use Disney transportation, although we've used a cab here and there if we're tired and just ready to get back to our room. I might consider a rental if I were staying somewhere that required buses to do everything (like SSR), but haven't actually been presented with that situation yet.

Absolutely! Always met some great folks en route!

We use Disney Transportation most of the time. We do, however, try to make sure that we are at least close enough to one or two parks in order to just walk over. For the times that we choose to stay at AKV or VWL, we will rent a car part of the time. It gives us the chance to leave the Disney property to go to some restaurants and to go shopping for a bit. We usually time those with a trip to another theme park.

We never used to rent a car before, we didn't even want to leave Disney. But a few times in the past couple of years, we were getting tired of the transportation and the selfish and obnoxious "guests". I'm sure there were many of them before, but for some reason, we encounter many people who seemed to think Disney was only for them!:sad2::mad:

We always drive. It’s only when we split up and go out own way, that someone has to take Disney Transportation. We do a lot of eating at other resorts or pick up a pizza, so the car comes in handy.

We have never used a car and had minimal problems with the Disney xport. That being said, it does take time and time is at a premium form some folks on vacation.
Since we are getting ready to start exploring some of the surrounding areas, we are considering a rental car for our next trip to the World.

We've always taken Disney transportation. We usually stay at AKV and even though some don't like the length of time it takes to get around, we've been fine with it. We're pretty laid back and just make sure to give ourselves enough time if we have a reservation. I am looking into renting a car for a day or so because I want to run to the grocery store and target for some stuff. But as long as you have patience, you'll be fine with the Disney transportation.

We almost always use Disney. We have on occasion rented cars for offsite travel (Cape Canaveral and Tampa/St Pete) and whenever we drive on site for whatever reason, we have "issues" getting places. In the 20 plus trips we have made (DW used to be CM at D'land) we have never had to wait too long for Disney busses and this goes back to when there were just two parks.

We have relied on Disney transportation during both of our prior trips and it was great! I would not fork over the money for a rental car.

Last month (staying at SSR and AKV) was the first time ever we never rented a car and just used Disney transportation. Everything worked out very well. Most of the time we only had a 10-15 minute wait for the bus. There was only one occasion coming back from MK that the wait was over 30 minutes. So from now on I'll just skip the car rental and use the money I save for something else.

We always have a car because I don't like to fly. We use it for a grocery trip, DTD, the Premium Outlets, and when we have ADRs at the resorts. But we use WDW transportation to the parks.

I have never driven so since we fly, we always use the Disney transportation. We are considering driving in 2 years for a 9 night stay, but the car will be parked 98% of the time. I will use their transportation when there. Why use gas and figure out where I'm going when they provide it for me?

I usually have either my own car or a rental, but they are only used for off property trips or - the other day - while staying at AKL, I needed to go to Wilderness Lodge for something, so I drove there, and then went off property to collect my pictures from Walgreens and go to the post office.

On property, because I use an ecv, Disney transport is so much easier. And, if my husband's with me, he says it's not vacation if he has to drive. Now mind, he's not averse to going on road trips or driving TO Disney, but when he's there, he wants to ride.

Since our first trip to WDW in 1992 we have used the Disney transportation. We did rent a car on that first trip and NEVER used it the entire time. On my most recent trip to BWV in January, I rented a car for a day to visit an over 55 community I am interested in. I just walked over to the Dolphin and picked up the car there and dropped it off at the end of the day. I have never missed having a car;)

I always use the bus. We considered getting a cab once when we went to Jelly Rolls but we rode with a friend back to the hotel.

If anything I think I would just call a cab if we needed a ride

We have always used Disney Transportation .Occasionally if it is raining heavily and we have a ADR that doesn't have a direct route we use a cab. For a family of 4 my fee is always about $15-16 ( and that was from AKV to Poly) so I give the driver $20. By the time dinner's over we are able to use Disney transportation again.

We rent a car. Because our group never arrives at the same time, we end up making some roundtrips to MCO to collect additional travelers. We also have a CM in our party(who does not have a car) and we sometimes need to travel to backstage areas not accessible via WDW transport. Addtionally, we like to travel to the grocery store/liquor store to stock our villa with supplies. I don't know that we'd ever not rent a car. We enjoy the feeling of control we have not having to wait on WDW transport. :earsboy:

We have always used Disney transportation. We are going in about 5.5 weeks and we decided to try a rental car this time. We can get it partially paid for as a business expense, so we are going to do an experiment to see how we like having a car.

We will be at the BWV for the first 5 nights, so I am not sure how much we will use the car during that time, since we are really looking forward to walking to Epcot and HS. I have read several threads about people saving time driving to the parks, so it will be interesting to see how it works out for us this time.
