OK inspired by the fact that I could not figure out how to text on my cell phone to Albort Thursday, how do YOU communicate when you are split up at DL?

I couldnt figure out how to stop my cell from typing it's own words when I would text him back!!!!!! It seems I am one of the few who don't get texting.:confused3

Dh and I split up quite often with the kids and we always use cell phones but TALK on them to communicate. :lmao:

Do you use walkie-talkies, talk on cell phones, text messages, megaphone, cup and string method or leave trails of M&M's to find eachother?????

We use walkie-talkies (Motorola 6500 Talk-Abouts), but use the higher sub-channels that others do not seem to use very much. We have cell phones for backup.

We text, but then I have a 16 yo dd who trained us all very well. It's the only way we communicate with her some days... :rotfl:

We used our cell phones. We tended to stick together, though often one of us stayed with DS2 to watch while the other was in line with DS6.

This is really dumb, but there were a few times when we split up that I needed something from him, and it didn't occur to me to call him! :rotfl:
Hopefully I'll be a little better about that on our next trip.

We really don't split up, or at least not for more than five minutes. This next time we're (hopefully) vacationing with my sister and her family. Dh'll probably bring the walkie talkies, and I know dh will have his cell phone with, as will they. Mine's staying at home; it's not like I ever use it anyway (except as a watch :rotfl:).

I'm hoping we can just verbally communicate face-to-face "yeah, let's meet back in front of the castle at 6 o'clock" and be done with it. I'm not really a fan of cell phones in everyday life, so on vacation I think having a cell would just encourage all sorts of plan making, meeting up to go on a ride, waiting around. Ya know?

Maybe your dd needs to come over and teach me how to text. :teacher: I bet we could get a class together. How much does she charge???? :lmao:

We tried dropping M & M's, but the CM's were so efficient at keeping the place clean that we could never found our trail. That's when we decided to resort to old fashioned cell phones. We also often choose a spot and meet up again after a couple of hours. After running around with one kid for a while, it's good to rest a bit and wait. popcorn::

DH and I use our cell's we have nextel w/the radio feature and we put it on vibrate, we always seem to split up, he goes on ToT, Screamin', Space Mt. etc and DD sticks with me, that will start changing soon though as she is getting more adventerous since 7 is around the corner. I like being able be in touch with him just in case.

FYI with those of you with smaller kiddies, my DD has one of the name badges like the cast members, I have my name and cell # on the back, just it case.

The only actual split ups were for rides that DS couldnt or wouldnt go on. So when DH and DD did space mtn again we would do Buzz and then meet in front of the big spinny marble which probably has a real name.

Same thing for Indy...DH & DD would go on it, DS and I would go thru Tarzans Treehouse...and then watch Jack Sparrow usually stagger thru wreaking havoc...lol

Again when the brave of heart did Screamin' we did the carousel. Maybe it is more of an issue when the park is actually crowded.

I may be old-fashioned...but I was sure irritated by all the people wandering around yakking on their cell phones!!! I mean REALLY...you are in Disneyland with your kids...why the heck are you on your phone? I actually had a discussion with a CM about not allowing them in the park. I guess if you were using them to find your family...but then we survived how many years before that in DL without them....I did see a few families using walkie talkies (FRS they are called here) and those didnt irritate me so much. But then I in general find cell phones irritating...at the store etc. I have one. I use it sparingly...this is all of course JMHO....

When ever we are on Disney trips with friends we either call one another on our cell phones or text one another. If we want to see if they want to meet up early or later then we will phone but if we are just seeing if they are having fun or they want us to pick something up for them we will send a quick text message. I do tend to text a fair bit though (although I do turn the predictive texting off, must be the English teacher in me, I prefer to write the words myself!)

Text messaging, all the way! But then, we always seem to text each other, and send pics quite a bit. I couldn't make it through a regular day without my cell phone. A day at Disney is no exception. We need them to keep track of each other when we split up.

We only had 2 kids last time we went, and often one would do one thing and the other something else. So we would each take one so everyone could do their own thing. then meet back and do stuff together. the text helped let the other half of the family know if one half would be late due to lines, etc. Or that we were done with something. Or that we'd moved on to another ride while waiting for them to be done and come back. You know, the usual fun stuff.

I also noticed a lot of people on their cell phones when in the park. I thought it was really odd, and sad. You could hear people talking about nothing to the person at the other end of the phone, and totally ignoring their children. I felt bad for the kids, but of course they looked used to it. :(

I also am a person who uses the cell phone sparingly, so maybe it's just a generational thing. But when I was in DL I wanted to focus my attention on my DH and kids and having fun, and forget about the outside world for awhile.

We use our cell phones. We dont divide up a lot, but now and then we do. We tried the walkie talkies and were not happy with the results. Its hard to hear and its even harder to find a channel to use that isnt already in use.

Text messaging is how we keep in contact. We used to do the walkie talkies but, we hated how everyone got into our conversations.

lol, Cellphones dont work. We called Shawna like 50 billion times and she doesnt pick up :cool1:

We almost always stay together since it is just DH and I. But we use the cell phone if we split up to get food or something. If it's busy, one of us will snag a table, and the other will grab the munchies.

:lmao:

Apparently she called me a few times and I never heard it ring or felt it vibrate.

I find I don't get a clear signal in certain areas of the park, NOS is horrible.

My old phone would drop a call completely if I walked near ROA, sitting at Riverbelle was ok but if I was wandering it would die off.
My Sprint phone (with roaming) works but is patchy/scratchy near Pirates.

Shawna was in NOS when we couldn't find her.

We text message it's cheaper than making a call but then again my service is in canada and it costs a fortune to make a call when I'm in the states. And I'm only 23 so I know how to text message, my generation invented the text message

Don't feel bad though about not being able to text message Shawna, my mom sent me a message that was just a bunch of numbers and letters, then she sent another one explaining that she didn't know how to text message and my sister was showing her how.

I'm not making sense with my threats I'm off to bed......
