i know nothing about dvc point renting, but i'm very curious to see how much money i can save this way. how can i figure out how many points i would need to buy/rent? also, what are the rules for this? would my name be on the reservation when i arrive? thanks! i'm clueless
Please keep in mind that points are of no use to anyone except a member- you would actually be renting a reservation from a DVC member. The points may give you an idea what cost may be involved, but that amount is negotiable with the member.
The member would make a reservation in your name and send you a copy. Disney will NOT be involved in any way with the transaction - you will make all arrangements thru the member.
You should read the Posting Rules at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board and either respond to an offer to rent made by a member or post your own request. Be sure to state your dates and what resort and room type you will be interested in renting.
Good luck! Renting from a DVC member can be a great way to stay in a great WDW resort. Be sure to have an idea what a similar rental thru CRO would cost to have some means for comparison.
Also be sure you understand some things. DVC is a timeshare, not a hotel. There is no daily mousekeeping, for example, so you'll make your own beds and clean up yourselves. No concierge either. The cancellation policy is much more strict than getting a room through Disney.
So while you'll be saving money, you'll be giving up some things also.
