How do split stays work?

if you have two separate packages (i.e. Two separate tickets), how does it work with FP+? I assume when the FP window opens for the first day, say a 3 day stay/ticket package, you can only book the first 3 days of FP? And then you have to wait until the second FP window to open to do the rest of the trip?

You’ll be able to book FPs for all park days. 2 onsite stays keep the booking window open.

See the Split Stay section of the FP FAQ.

Just did a split stay in August. Booked the package 1st (4 nights but 6 day hoppers) then room only (3 nights). Was able to book all 6 days when my window opened up.

I haven't yet - just looking at options. Was looking at the package specials.

If you put tickets on just one reservation, it would need to be the first one, right?

Yes definitely the first and not the 2nd.

If Tickets are only part of Package#2, you wouldn’t be able to book FPs for park days that are planned for Stay#1 until you reach WDW and activate the tickets.

We are doing a split stay and we could even book our families fast passes even though they aren't arriving until the .3rd day of our trip and 1st day of our second stay. We could book them all from day 1 of our stay!

Yep, that's addressed in post #3 of the FP FAQ thread.

For park tickets on package 2, you have to activate them at WDW? Would they activate if you did online check-in in advance? We're doing this in November with a room-only res for 2 days and then a MYW package for 4. I've been planning on just activating tickets when we arrive, but it'd be nice if there was a way to do it in advance. (Another question - how do you activate your tickets - resort front desk? Ticket counter at park? any other places?) Thanks!

1. For use prior to your package stay, yes.
2. No.

You book all of your FP+ at once.

ADR's will be split into two check in dates.
