Thank you in advance for any help as I know that many of you are experts in DVC Points while I am still a little newer to the game.
Here is my situation. We are looking to travel to Disney next date removed. I have points at VWL and I know I can book in ** as that would be 11 months out. I have enough points to book a studio but am considering renting points to upgrade to a **. I have thought about trying to book a BW standard view at 7 months but I know my chances aren't great. So I need to know what I should do. If I decide to do ** in a 1 br at VWL then I need to rent/transfer ** points to be able to book at the 11 month window in **. But if I try and switch then at 7 months to BW what would happen to the extra points I am saving since I had to borrow? Now I would be getting back extra points that would need to be used but I am not going again that year- I know I can't bank transferred or borrowed points. I could probably still bank the ** from this year and that would leave me with ** to do something with or maybe I could add on. I don't want to count on getting *** so I should go ahead and get *** points transferred/rented for my 11 month window right? And then at 7 months deal with the other? Any thoughts on what I should do? Advice would be greatly appreciated as I have never rented/transferred points either.

Give a family member or friend a gift stay. We have done this with multiple friends and family. If someone you know is having an anniversary or birthday during that time frame, give them a gift of a stay.

I would say rent them out, if you are so disposed but to me the gifting of them is a better way.

Transferred points can be banked. I just did it yesterday.:) I'm new to this, but finally there's a question that I can actually address with certainty!:worship:

What you want to try to do is get points that will be valid for your trip and then eligible to still be banked once you pass your 7 month window.

What you don't want to do is borrow from your 2012 UY for that trip and then do the transfer as those borrowed points can't be returned and would expire, 2012 as borrowing is a final transaction.

I would just get your ** points transferred in and then book the 1 bedroom. Since *** of your points are 2011 UY points and you are traveling during your 2011 UY, those would still be bankable at the 7 month mark so if *** is available, just be sure they use up the transferred points, and free up your 2011 points.

Good luck!

Wow I didn't know transferred points could be banked! Ok, so if I transfer the points first and then borrow my 2012 I would be able to bank my ** 2011 points plus bank the extra ** I transferred if I got a reservation at *** at 7 months? I know I can't do anything with those ** I borrow but I will use those no matter what as I need more points than that for either scenario.

Yes, that you can do, as long as the points you get as a transfer are still within their banking window at that 7 month mark. Transferred points maintain their own UY and banking deadlines.

As long as what you get can be used for that 2012 trip and then will still be bankable in ** 2012 when your 7 month window opens, you are all set.

Since you are not going the next year, though, make sure you know what will expire when when you bank. If you are not going in 2013 before ***, then those ** banked 2011 UY points will expire since that is the end of the 2012 UY in which you will have banked them.

Its the same with the transferred points. Be sure that once banked, they will be valid for you to use when you need them. It might make a difference in what UY you choose for the transferred points.

Thanks so much for your help. I understand exactly what you mean and it is a lot to think about. I am thinking if we did switch to *** at seven months maybe I could use the points to stay an extra night or two instead of trying to bank them. I knew people here would have great answers!
