How can you lock out your computer so a password is necessary to use the computer?

My brother would like to make his computer to where is ex cannot log on to it. She comes over occasionally when he is not home and he just does not want her on it.

if he goes into the control panel there should be an icon that says passwords. just tell him to make sure it is nothing that she will guess.

This depends. From your descriptoin it sounds like he wants to have a password come on at boot up. Dependng on the computer model this is possible. It has to be configured through the BIOS. Check your computer hardware documentation. If it's after it's turned on, it depends what operating system you are running.

Thanks dmadman43 - that is what he has in mind. We are both not very computer savvy, but we'll look into it. Thanks!

I have XP at home and at boot up time, it's necessary to have a password (I have to change it every 45 days). I believe in any of the windows products you can set things up to be password protected through the control panel. XP is very security oriented (atleast I know the office version is).
