How bumpy is the Safari?

I have noticed they (the driver) will be more careful with a lap baby on it, so I would think they would too with pregnant ladies. I don't belive there is an restruction on it, but there might be a back problem one. It really depnds on how bad it is.

That has not been my experience at all, I regretted taking my 5mo on when her head almost smacked into the seat in front of me because it was so bumpy.

For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe we just had a senstive driver (there were babies and many small kids on the ride.) My baby was 7 months old and wasn't as floppy as sometimes a 5 month old is.

Like I said when I road pregnant it was very early and my Dr. told me I could ride anything I felt up to. (1st trimester not showing at all.)

If they recomend not to ride pregant I wouldn't after you are showing. :flower:

Even though I am not pregnant I have gotten some good advice here.....was going to sit out the safari next trip....it was SO bumpy last time...it gave me a headache.

So....I will try and get a seat near the front...

Thanks!

Just got back and did the safari. Yes, the ride has a warning posted for pregnant women, and yes, it was REALLY bumpy. I noticed more because my senior parents were along with us this time, and my Mom has to use a wheel chair lately. She really had to hang on, and I was slightly concerned during the ride about her safety. She was fine, but I hadn't noticed prior to that how much our bodies move during the ride.
It's only a ride. You can do it on your next visit! I'd listen to the posted warnings. Afterall, it's not just you alone on your ride.

DW rode on it up to around 6 months. After that we decided to be safe and sit it out. However, there are some city roads that are much worse due to pot holes. If you do go on it, you might want to take a small pillow to sit on to help cushion the ride a little.

I plan on riding it in December, will be 24 weeks then. Just plan on sitting up front where it is less bumpy. When you are used to PA roads, the safari is nothing at all :teeth:

I think there are warnings for expectant mothers posted at almost every ride in WDW (we are a litigious society after all) so I would just do what YOU are comfortable with, not what others think. If in doubt on a ride, maybe a family member could ride first and give you an honest opinion. We have been there enough that I know what I do and do not feel comfortable doing.

I sat this one out when PG with DS (about six months). I too missed out on my DD's first safari ride Disneymommymichelle!

I'm not sure what the signs say now, but when I went PG (about 6 years ago) hardly ANY signs had warnings for pregnant women (mostly for back and heart problems). SO when I saw a warning for the safari ride I took it VERY seriously.

My DD was so young (3) that we skipped any rides she wan't tall enough to ride anyways so I think this was the only ride I actually had to sit out while my DD and DH rode. Splash mountain didn't have a warning...I rode it during BOTH pregnancies!

The thing about splash montain is the seats, they way they have you sit with your knees up around her chin would be very uncomfortable I think after 20 weeks or so. I am trying to remember. I think I rode it when I was pregnant (32 weeks actually, but I was really small. With the big sweat shirt on you couldn't tell I was pregnant unless you looked at me just right.) Come to think of it I am pretty sure I did, it was uncomfortable and I wish I hadn't (just because of the seats and the way the other cars will bump into you.) I forgot all about it and I don't know what I was thinking at the time! :confused3

Splash Mountain does have a warning for expectant mothers. From what I have read, there are a couple of reasons; one is that your boat could get hit/jolted by another boat at times. One is that the space is tight and kind of awkward to get into (a high step in, a kind of shimmy down to get into the seat). Another one that I've read people's doctors explained to them is a theorectical risk of the placenta detaching because of the speed and angle of the drop and then the fast stop at the bottom of the drop.

I rode this pregnant, but not very far along. When we were there and I was 32 weeks pregers we didn't do AK.

But then again the trip I rode it pregnant I also rode Mission Space and Dinosaor.

23 weeks might be pushing it, just for comfort reasons. If you do sit in the front. It really depends on how big you are by that point. If you aren't showing much or uncomfortable, go for it.

Glad I am not the only prego who rode Dinosaur......I also did RNR at 7 months.:earseek:

I'd say the Safari is fine as long as you have a healthy normal pregnancy. If you are someone with any problems....skip it. It really wasn't that bumpy. Dinosaur, I would skip. :goodvibes

I've ridden this maybe 10 times and always wondered why they had the warning for expectant mothers...guess I always had a smooth driver. I went when I was 7 mo.s pregnant and had no problems or concerns. I'd agree that if you're having a normal, problem-free pregnancy and feel OK, go for it. That said, it doesn't hurt to be too cautious, especially since so many other people said they had very bumpy rides.

Guess I didn't help much - sorry! (if it were me again, I'd go!).

Honestly I think its the driver cause some drive faster and its much more bumpy.

I second this comment!

I road it through all 3 pregnancies and I was fine. I don't think it is any bumpier than riding on a bad road full of pot holes and what not. Its really your call and how you feel about it. They post that sign just to protect them if anything did happen.

Have fun no matter what you decide. :flower:

This is the one I haven't decided about either. I am going to follow the official Disney suggestions for the most part, but this one I just don't remember being *that* bad or bumpy. Of course, I will be quite PG - almost 30 weeks - when we are there so maybe I won't be in the mood for anything except hanging out on benches.

I just rode it last week so the memory is fresh. I wouldn't ride is PG just because of the "pee" factor! All that bumping on your bladder will have you ready to BURST! :Pinkbounc
