Hi

We have just booked our holiday and we received our invoice today, but we asked the Travel Agent to book a F4 car. There will be 2 adults and 3 children who will be 5,2,2. We will need 3 seats. :crowded:

Looking on the invoice they have booked a I4 and I can only see car hire of £55.00, they are not showing any insurance. We have booked a fly drive. We asked for platnium, so we would get the car seats inc, but she said they will charge as we need 3.

I am now confused. Just wanted to know will a I4 be big enough?

Regards
Michelle

We rented an I4 a few years ago, I would say they are a Mondeo size saloon maybe a bit bigger, so inside the car you will be fine.

The problem you may have is luggage - the boot (or trunk) on American cars are traditionally smaller than in the UK.
To be honest I think you will struggle in this respect and would recommend you look at the 7 seater people carrier - depends on how much luggage you have, an F4 although the boot is pretty big may still be a bit tight perhaps but an I4 unless you travel really light - for 2 adults and 3 children it will be virtually impossible to fit all your stuff in the boot.

The I4 I had a few years ago was a Plymouth Breeze. It was about Mondeo size. It was a 2 Litre with an auto gearbox.
We got 2 adults and 2 children (4 & 8) in it, together with 2 large and one large holdall in the boot (trunk) and we couldn't get much else in.
You may be better off with a small van (people carrier) or a full size car.

Performance seemed about the same as a 1.6 Mondeo ;)

Hiya,

Thanks for that, I dont think they have selected any insurance, I went on Virgins site and did a quote for fly drive and car and it mentioned insurance. So I presume they must not of included it. Bit stupid really. The insurance costs an arm and a leg over there.

Its a pity we cant get a car from another rental company, which will be cheaper like opodo we can get a people carrier for the same price as a F4 from Virgin. If we wanted to change it to free 7 nights, we have more ammendment charges. :(

Hubby will look at the invoice and contact them about it, they also put my dob wrong on the invoice.

All because you have booked a flydrive with Virgin you do not have to use the free car they have booked for you. As long as you have not pre-booked their insurance you can go and book another car with a different company if you want to. :)

Last trip we booked a Virgin flydrive so we could book our flights further in advance than 11 months. We were staying onsite so didn't need the car, so we just didn't bother picking it up from the airport. We just booked a towncar transfer instead :)

We are doing the same next December too.

Bruce said they will charge us for not using the car? We have it booked for 14 days.

The invoice only shows

adult price
child price
car hire £55.00 which I presume is for the second week, you only get it free for 1 week
admin fees coz we changed it.

No sign of any insurances booked.

If I just told in the TA that my dob is wrong and get that changed and book a car with another co they will be fine.

Opodo is so much cheaper than Virgin.
