Any help welcome??:) Getting ready to book our room for our 2 days after our cruise in October. There is 6 of us and so I checked the cabin rates. It sounds nice? What can anyone tell me. I have heard to rent a golf cart to get around. We will be there Oct 30 & 31 and planning to attend MNSSHP. Not going to do many parks. We really want to stay together and the price is about the same as two rooms at a moderate.;)

Is it convenient to MK? Are they roomy???

Thanks for the help. I have it on hold for now. I will also keep my eyes open for discount codes to come around for that time of year

Do you ever see any codes for the Home away from Home resorts?

We enjoyed the cabins last June. The layout is one bedroom with a set of bunkbeds and a double bed and a murphy bed in the living room. My DH and I slept on the murphy bed and he said it was the most comfortable bed in Disney compared to the other resorts we have stayed at (POR, AKL, Poly). There is only one bathroom which might be a problem if you have 6 adults getting ready for the day at the same time. We showered our kids the night before so it made it easier in the morning. There is a kitchen with basic utensils and some dishes and a full size refrigerator. We had breakfast in the cabin most days (saves $$$). There is lots to do at the campground -- pool, movie at night, playgrounds, fishing, rental boats. There is alsoa large deck off the cabin and you do get maid service every day.

We enjoyed the golf cart although is it expensive and I believe most only seat 4 people.

MK is a boat ride away with a stop at WL on some routes.

You may want to post this on the campground board also.

There is a good website for FW but I can't think of the link right it is by Jeff Spencer I believe.

We stayed there last year and we enjoyed the peacefulness of having our own "home." We'd eat breakfast in the cabin, go to the parks and have lunch in the parks, then come back for dinner. We had a rental car and a golf cart so transportation wasn't an issue with us. We loved riding around in the golf cart and just checking things out. Check out the Camping forum for more info.

Hi!We have stayed twice at FW cabins. We love staying there!!!!We say it is Disney's best kept secret. The dollar value is great. It is so nice to come back to the resort after a busy day at the parks, very relaxing and peaceful. It is just a short boat ride to MK.You can definetely find codes. One trip we paid $137/night.We always eat breakfat in the cabins to save time and money. It is so nice to have a full kitchen. There is also Trails End buffet which is very good, reasonably priced. If you can't tell we are a big FW fan. When we go for our"long "trip we stay there.Hop over to the Camping Boards for more discussion and info for FW.

PS At Halloween they have a Haunted Hayride

Haunted Hayride - that sounds fun! I heard FW is also nice at Christmas, with everyone putting up lights, decorations, etc. We were at WDW last month but didn't get over there to check it out. I might have to rethink our December 2003 reservations!

If you're going to FW for the pools, they're not fancy like the some of the other resorts. There are two pools; one is near the cabins (2500 loop area) and one is behind the Meadows store. The pool by the cabins is rather small and is just a regular, run-of-the-mill pool. The Meadows pool is bigger, but also plain. I think there's a kiddie pool over at Meadows too.

we stayed in a cabin nov. 2002. they werre nice, but I hated the murphy bed! so uncomfortable that after the 1st nite, we made our kids sleep on it ( they can sllep anywhere w/o problems!). Anyway, they are nice an roomy, and transportation was O.K., but we are not fans of busses. We did use a code and paid 139.00/nite. ;)

:DSounds great!! We have 3 adults and 3 kids. We will just have to take turns with the bathroom. It would be fine since we are only going to be there 2 nights. ;)

I did not know that there was the camp forum. I will check it out.

Sounds like what we are looking for!!

If you haven't seen it, Jeff Spencer keeps a great web site on Fort Wilderness at http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/photogal.htm.

My family of six stayed in one of the cabins in October 2000. We loved the petting farm, the electrical water pageant, and the outdoor movies/sing-along with Chip and Dale/marshmallow roast.

Now, I'm excited about our next visit in November 2003, when we're staying in a 2BR at the Beach Club Villas, right smack dab in the middle of everything!

My family of two adults and three kids had a blast there when we went the last week of Sept. in 2000. The only downside were the lovebugs.... they were everywhere!

However, the cabins were really cute, the housekeeping was fabulous (less than three minutes between calling and getting help with a clogged toilet, and when we grilled steak tips late one night, we were amazed when we got up at 6 the next morning and the grill was magically cleaned!

The kids loved having their "own" room, and while some people seem to think the buses leave something to be desired, we were quite happy with the transportation.

The bunnies on the lawn, the rocking chairs out front of the restaurant (the buffet there was a great value and the food was better than we expected) and the quiet atmosphere after a long day at the parks made us big fans. However, the pools were pretty boring.

We'll visit there again I'm sure! I think you'll find it totally "Disney"!

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO. WE WILL ONLY BE STAYING 2 NIGHTS AND GOING TO MK. SO WE WON'T REALLY NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE BUS SYSTEM. ;) ;) WE CAN JUST TAKE THE BOAT OVER THERE.

MY MOM HAS NO DESIRE TO DO ANYTHING DISNEY AND SO I THINK THE CABINS WILL MAKE HER FEEL BETTER ABOUT THE TRIP.
I KNOW SHE IS GOING TO HAVE A GREAT TIME!!! SHE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW HOW FUN THE CRUISE AND WDW IS!!!

THE CABINS WON'T BE AS HECTIC AND WE CAN DO THE CAMP FIRE AND MAYBE THE HAYRIDE? SHE WILL BE SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH FUN SHE IS GOING TO HAVE!!:D :D :D

I AM EXCITED!! WE HAVE A GROUP OF 12 GOING AND SO WE ARE BOOKING 2 CABINS!!

I think you will be happy with your choice to stay at the FWC - We loved them so much, we stayed there 3x. I didn't have a problem with the transpo there at all -
The pools leave alot to be desired, comparitively....but there is so much to do there, it more than makes up for that. Plus you're very close to River Country for more exciting swimtime. I had once heard a rumor that River Country was going to become the pool area for FW....anyone heard anymore on that?

I also heard that rumor but heard more times that its not going to happen. River Country has been closed for some time now, don't know what they're going to do with it, it would certainly be ideal for FW's main pool area. Maybe they will re do it all together???

Maybe they could at least open the pool part of River Country if not the lake part:D

We stayed at the cabins for the first time last June. We were really concerned it would be an inconvenient location. It turned out that our kids loved the place! We roasted weiners and marshmallows on our grill and were also thrilled to find it cleaned when we went out the next morning. There is so much to do without ever leaving Ft. Wilderness. Since it rained every day we were there, we felt like we left so much undone. To remedy that, we are hoping to spend a few nights there on this June's trip. All three of my kids instantly mentioned the cabins when we asked where they would like to stay this year and my kids never agree on anything:p

You'll have to take a bus to the boat to get to the MK.

The internal bus system is fairly simple, but it takes some time to figure it out. There are 2 main stops, one at each end of the campground, and 2 busses, one heading toward each. You can't drive & park by the stop near the MK boats, restaurant, etc. and it's too far to walk. We found the cabins were too far to walk to anywhere, pretty much, except the bus stop and the smaller pool. We were in the 2600 loop.
