How are Planners Assigned?

I was just curious. Does anyone know how a Planner is assigned? Is it purely a matter of schedules or lotteries? Or does someone make some preliminary assessment of personalities and how much attention a certain event will require from the planner?

It's all based on scheduling, I'm afraid... When we switched dates we were going to switch planners, until our planner's schedule changed. Unfortunately, personality fit is not one of the considerations, but all the planners seem to be very good at their jobs! :thumbsup2

Keenercam, I agree with everything that Lurkyloo said. I should note, though, that I was handled a little differently than most. Since I had an established relationship with Disney, the Fairy Tale Weddings folks assigned someone to me who had worked with me before (this person did not work for their organization). It worked out well and I went on to have a lovely event.

Thanks for the answers, guys! Oh, Janet, I have to tell you something funny! At our site visit, Joe told me you'd done an event at the marina and I should look for your DISBoards posts for some pictures! Isn't that great??? :)

Keenercam, how sweet! Please tell Joe that I have done three events at the marina now -- and there might be be more events in the future. ;)

I know that over the years, quite a few Cast Members have shared information about my family's vacations / events with others. I always get a kick out of it when it gets back to me. I'm just so dang happy that my stories / photos have been able to help others with their own vacation / event planning. I call it the "circle of life."

I'll have to go find some of your event pictures!

Keenercam, here ya go: click here. And for ones relating to my FTW, click here.

I have been attempting to replace my old, low-res photos with higher-res ones. It's a slow & painful process (boy, is it ever!). Hopefully, what I have shared so far will at least help others get an idea for what is possible in Walt Disney World. However, my photos never seem to do Disney justice (but at least I try!).

Oh, my goodness, Janet! Your pictures are awesome! Your VR is the most unique and creative and clever event I've seen pix of. You must have been so pleased! Everyone looked like they were having a blast and you and DH looked SOOOOOO happy! Congratulations!

the dinner at the haunted mansion was awesome.. how can i have an event there? that would be a fun dinner rehearsal event.

Your pictures are awesome!

Keenercam, the photos were taken by Disney. Just wait until I replace the low-resolution photos with higher-resolution ones. The colors will really pop and the photos will look crisper. (Note: When my photos were on Yahoo, they were in an extremely low resolution -- I did that intentionally. But now that they've been moved to Flickr, I think higher-resolution photos are in order.)

Here's an example of what I mean:

Now, that's not the best example since it's a screen capture and thus a low-resolution image, but hopefully it will get my point across. Old photo on left looks dull; new photo on right looks crisper. Well, at least that's my plan. Of course, it's a very time-consuming process to replace all of my photos, but I'm hoping to complete the process at some point this year.

I can't take any credit. It was all Disney. The Fairy Tale Weddings folks and the Grand Floridian folks did a marvelous job with absolutely everything. No complaints at all on my part. If I had to do it all over again, I would do it the exact same way.

You must have been so pleased!

Over the moon. Truly, over the moon.

Everyone looked like they were having a blast...

They better have. I plied them with gallons of liquor and tons of food. ;)

Seriously, they all had a wonderful time. The day simply flew by.

...and you and DH looked SOOOOOO happy!

We were very happy that night. It was like experiencing a dream in the most beautiful & magical way. We didn't want for anything except for our guests to have the times of their lives. And with Disney's help, that was very easy to pull off.

Congratulations!

Thank you. Reaching 20 years of marriage was not easy. We had many twists and turns along the way. But the one thing that got us through was the simple fact that we were always best friends. There wasn't anything that we couldn't talk about or work through. And I sincerely mean that.

I expect the next 20 years to be equally as hard as the first. Except for one little thing. We made it to 20, so I know we're more than capable of making it to 50 years. That really does ease the pressure! As long as we can communicate, we're pretty much home-free. ;)

May you have a long and successful marriage, too, Keenercam.

I CANT Believe this post!!!

I just posted to Cam about how I read your (janet) Vow Renewal... I came close to posted the link. . . but thought, no, Cam has enough on her plate, leave her alone!!!

I'm also going to Add Janet a HUGE thank you to your DD - because of her review of her experience on the Pirate Cruise from the GF our DD decided to go for it - she was 10 I think - and it was nerve wracking while the first few guests appeared, but she was calm because "I remember reading about it from Mom, it will be great" and sure enough, more her age girls came about - and it was every bit as fun as your dd and the pics showed!!

Thank you so much!!

one day, you never know!!!

Monana, "The Haunted Mansion" movie set was damaged during one of the hurricanes that hit Florida. I believe the building that the set resided in had taken a bit of a hit and water had damaged the set. It was eventually dismantled and removed.

There was a bride who was planning on holding her wedding reception on that set (she had seen my photos and had read my trip report about that event). Sadly, the hurricane damage had made that impossible. I felt so badly for her because she had some really wonderful touches that she was going to add to her event. It would have been fun to have viewed her photos and then compared them to my own.

In the past, you could rent out the Haunted Mansion attraction inside the Magic Kingdom Theme Park. I know that I considered doing so for my vow renewal, but since we had experienced "The Haunted Mansion" movie set for our 19th wedding anniversary, I thought it would be better to go with another venue for our 20th and so the Great Movie Ride attraction was chosen instead. I have heard that renting the Haunted Mansion attraction is currently impossible, but one never knows what the answer will really be until they ask the question of Disney. ;)

Oh, Sandy321, how sweet you are. I'm glad the photos & words helped. My daughter truly loves all of Disney's kids activities, especially the ones at the Grand Floridian Resort. Even though she's usually the oldest kid there, for some reason it never bothers her. I think a lot has to do with the Cast Members who work the activities. My daughter adores them. They really do make it fun for the kids.

If you have photos of when your daughter attended the Pirates Cruise, please PM me a link to them -- I would love to see them! pirate:
