I saw you post and thought for sure my question got the sucker locked!

:earseek: Is that my reputation now- "She who locks the threads?"

Yikes! :earboy2:

 I always look when you post to see who's in trouble.. I'm just nosey like that.

The boards just wouldn't be the same without you kathy, you know that! ;)

Are pm's private? I mean can they be seen my mods or webmasters?

What about moderators that don't post much or not regulars on the board anymore? Are they still considered moderators? Or are they sort of in an inbetween place?

Just curious.

Yikes! :earboy2:

I must say I am guilty of searching for posts by webmasters because often they are the last post in some really interesting threads!!

BrerLizzie- I would guess it was Pete! I don't know who the second was but he might

Sandy22- all of the moderators and webmasters are volunteers. Some of the webmasters and moderators but not even the majority do work for dreams but that is completely seperate

tmli- mods and webmasters don't have access to PM's. Now before some database engineer jumps on me they are stored in a database on the server and obviously anything in a database can be retrieved. The only people with access to those servers are Pete and myself and some tech people from our hosting company. We all have way better stuff to do than go sifting through databases

and yes Kathy is the tough webmaster :)

They are still considered moderators if their name is at the top of a board.

Thanks just curious...what a great thread Alex, thanks for taking the time to answer all of these questions :teeth:

Have you ever had to change someone's user name for being inappropriate? Like if you found out the username was slang for something bad.

Looks like Alex is taking a break, anyone mind if I give it a shot?

BrerLizzie- Alex will have to answer the "first poster" question, but I can tell you that Beanie has 66,748 posts. No one else tops that!

rcyannacci- I'm a fan of the Impressionists. I think I'd cut threads supporting them a little extra slack. Can't speak for the rest of the team, though. :smooth:

Sandy22- We're volunteers! You don't make any money as a moderator or webmaster, but you get to know lots of great people. There's not any set amount of time they're asked to put in, but they are expected to be involved with their boards.

tmli- PMs are private. (And we don't really want to know what goes on there! :earseek: )

CindyB- If a moderator is listed as a moderator, then they're still considered a mod. We do expect moderators to be active on the boards, but there's a lot of flexibility because people have lives and stuff happens. (Also, refer back to the "volunteer" answer!)

(I type *way* too slow, because Alex answered while I was still typing!)

Dear Webmaster Alex,
First I would like to Thank you and all the other webmasters, mods, helpers, etc. who help run this boards. I am thankful that people like you are out there lurking around and checking up on our daily threads to make sure we are all safe, secure and being good little boys and girls. Keep up the GREAT work.
Second, have you heard anything lately from the Tag Fairies? I am starting to get a bit concerned. Noone has seen them working their little magic in a while now. I am just curious...are they on Vacation? Are the well?? I am so hopping none of them are ill..
Third, I was wondering, can one ask to Volunteer to become a mod or helper mod or anything or do webmasters have to ask them? I seem to have way too much time on my hands and I would love to volunteer to do something..I am not sure exactly what it is I can do, but, whatever it is I would like to help.
Fourth, Should all the games that get played on the Communion Board be placed in a special area or zone? Sometimes it seems that there are tons of games all going on at once. People that don't play the games may start to feel overwhelmed with games threads..Is there a Game Room somewhere??
Fifth, What happens to threads that get really long? Is there a cutoff to how many posts can be made to one thread?? Some have thousands and others that just get a few drift off to Neverland..What happens to the "dead threads"? The ones that people no longer respond to? Do they get removed from the board to make space for the new ones? Or do the get placed in a box in the attic somewhere just in case they are ever needed again..
and Last but not least, thank you again for your time and energy in answering all of my questions and everyones questions for that matter. I doubt you get the praise you deserve. So thank you to You webmaster alex, and all the others who use their spare time in helping us...

Sincerely yours,
Pfishgirl, aka Stacy
:goodvibes

PS I saw that my question 3 about volunteers, was answered..you don't pick peole who ask..so can we PRETEND I didn't ask???

Perhaps they should be placed in the CHURCH area or zone!!! :rotfl: :p :rotfl2:

What's the difference between a Webmaster and a Moderator?

Hi Phishgirl
If you read the begining of this thread we had some pretty good posts on how we pick moderators etc, it's a very common question. The tag fairy's get busy some time but they will be back
There's a lot of issues with making seperate boards for special subjects but a game board might be considered
We used to have a thread cutoff limit but we did away with that a while ago, now they can get as long as they want
We keep old threads around quite a while, for example on the community board right now they go back to 7-24-2002

Moderators work on one particular board.
The webmasters pick the moderators, solve site wide problems and have the final say in disciplinary actions etc....

thank you alex.... yes i did go back and reread all the posts and i even edited my post that asked about mods and volunteers, you'll have to look at the bottom of the post for my PS i added

thanks again.....
