Houston, We Have A Secret: A TX Vacation With A WDW Surprise ...aaand Done! Page 43

Great update(s)! Loved Madison's Flash mob experience. The Bre'ers are so friendly - Bre'er Bear is one of my favorites! And I am so jealous you got to meet Big Al in person.....although, if he was outside dancing - who was inside performing....
Well, Big Al doesn't appear in the Jamboree until fairly late in the show, so I would suspect he had time to get inside and grab his guitar before he had to go on. :thumbsup2
Evan is a doll! He probably got more digits than just that crowd of girls....you are just being modest. ;)
He may have worked several crowds of girls on that vacation...:rolleyes1

Awesome stuff Mr. B!
Been reading along for quite some time and figured I'd shout out a THANKS FOR SHARING!
You're welcome! I'm glad people are enjoying it!
I enjoyed hearing your take on Houston, especially Galveston. (grew up there and still live on north Galveston Bay).
Sorry I couldn't have nicer thing to say about Galveston. The weather that really put a damper on things. It looks like a nice little resort town, though!
I wish I had the patience to attempt a TR, but wouldn't even begin to do justice to the very entertaining stuff you come up with!
"Streaky Tiki" :worship:

Looking forward to more postings! :goodvibes
I wasn't sure I could do it either, but I just started one and all of a sudden people are commenting and encouraging and it really just snowballs from there. (Since you live in Galveston, a "snowball" is a ball made of snow, which is basically frozen water that falls from the sky...:rotfl2::rotfl2:)

Just popping in to see if there was anything "new" to report or announce over here. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I was looking to see if that had happened as well :)

Something "new"...hmmmm....let me think...well I accidentally picked up a jar of Almond Butter instead of Peanut Butter at the store last week. :confused3

:woohoo::woohoo::banana::banana:
Oh, and Bambi is pregnant with our 3 child!
:woohoo::woohoo::banana::banana:

She's due in the Spring, so the little guy/girl's first Disney trip will be in August 2012, when Bambi, Madison and Evan will be in a good friend's wedding in WDW. (Matron of honor, flower girl, and ring bearer, respectively).

Congrats to the FreezinRafiki family. What great news!

Barry, Bambi, Madison and Evan!!

I sure hope this wave of pregnancies (Tim, Dan, Barry...) isn't catching! :scared1:

Compared to the hustle and bustle of the daylight and evening hours, there is a eerie stillness to Walt Disney World around sun up. No one waiting for buses to the parks, no families running to the pool to play, no cast members hauling luggage to someone's room. Aside from occasional landscaping cast member trimming some hedges, it's just peaceful and serene.

Want to know somewhere else that is peaceful? Right here:

And why wouldn't those two little lumps in the bed be peaceful, it was 5:45am. I was wishing I was still snuggled into bed, but we had to be at the Magical Express bus stop at 6:30.

We had just about everything packed up the night before so I took the bags down to bell services at 6 for them to take to the airport for us. I wish I could say that by the time I got back Bambi had the kids up and dressed, but after 5 days in Houston and 4 days at WDW, you couldn't pull those kids out of bed with a tractor.

We finally did get them moving and we arrived at the bus stop 15 minutes ahead of our scheduled pickup - just like the information sheet said to do.

Yes, we were to convince Evan to change into his pants, but he refused to change out of his pajama shirt. We decided that was not a battle worth fighting at 6:00am, so we let him win this round.

Well, 6:30 came and went and no Magical Express bus. 6:45 and no bus. I went in to the lobby to ask, but since the Magical Express is run by Mears, the cast members at the front desk had no way to contact them to find out where the bus was. :headache:
Finally, about 6:50 the bus pulls up. The driver apologizes and helps us with the carry on bags. The only good thing about being the first ones on the bus? The kids get to "drive"
IMG00245-20110501-0658.jpg

We left Kidani Village and made several more stops to pick people up. I don't remember too much about the ride to the airport - it was too early to really pay attention to much.

Our flight back to Chicago was certainly a new experience to me. Our Southwest flight was billed as "direct", but with 3 stops. We never had to change planes, but we stopped in Birmingham, AL; Louisville, KY and Indianapolis, IN. Each time some people would get off and others would get on. It added about an hour or so vs. a nonstop flight, but you couldn't beat the price.

Somewhere before we landed in Louisville, the vacation caught up to her and Madison was out cold.
IMG00246-20110501-1239.jpg

She slept through landing and taking off in both Louisville and Indianapolis, finally waking up on final approach to Midway Airport in Chicago. And the way the pilot hit the reverse thrust and the breaks as soon as we touched down, I expected a tail hook to grab some restraining wires like on an aircraft carrier deck. I've heard people talk about the short runways at Midway, but experiencing it is completely different.

We grabbed our bags off of the baggage claim, wishing that Magical Express operated at our home airports as well. But since they don't I called the hotel where we left the van, and they said their shuttle was about 20 minutes out. So, how do you kill 20 minutes at an airport?

IMG00247-20110501-1358.jpg

Yeah, I have no idea either.

By the time we got back to the hotel and loaded up the van it was well past 2:00pm and we still hadn't had lunch. We found a hotdog stand not far from the hotel, grabbed some food to go and headed home. It took a little longer, but it finally caught up to Evan and he fell asleep in the van. Bambi had to wake him up a few times to remind him to finish chewing his last bite of hotdog before he went to sleep. He'd give her a dirty look, chew 3 more times, then his eyes would flutter shut and she'd have to do it all over again.

IMG00248-20110501-1523.jpg

We finally made it home and started to unpack. But first, we had two new pins to put in our map - Houston and Galveston, TX.

(Map idea blatantly stolen from Captain_Oblivious. He took my cheeseballs, I took his map. I think we're even.)

And so our Houston Vacation with a surprise trip to Walt Disney World came to a close. I'll be back with one final entry to wrap everything up and shamelessly plug the TR for our summer trip.

I've already congratulated Barry, so... CONGRATULATIONS BAMBI!!!!:cool1::woohoo::yay:

Get a bigger tractor.:confused3

I like that shirt! :thumbsup2

How many times did the bus smack into the center rail?

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I'm looking forward to reading about the summer trip!

Any chance that TR will actually be done before you go back again??? :rolleyes1

Homeward Bound

Awwwwwww!!!

but after 5 days in Houston and 4 days at WDW, you couldn't pull those kids out of bed with a tractor.

You think its tough now, wait until they hit their teens

We finally did get them moving and we arrived at the bus stop 15 minutes ahead of our scheduled pickup – just like the information sheet said to do.

Why does this sound eerily familiar?

Well, 6:30 came and went and no Magical Express bus. 6:45 and no bus. I went in to the lobby to ask, but since the Magical Express is run by Mears, the cast members at the front desk had no way to contact them to find out where the bus was.

Yep… it’s that right hand, left thing you were telling me about.

Yes, we were to convince Evan to change into his pants, but he refused to change out of his pajama shirt.

The longer he doesn’t care about fashion, the less you’ll be spending on cloths, but again, all that changes when the teens arrive (or the first girlfriend… which ever comes first)

The only good thing about being the first ones on the bus? The kids get to "drive"

Considering the driving habits I’ve encountered in Florida in general, it could only be an improvement.

We never had to change planes, but we stopped in Birmingham, AL; Louisville, KY and Indianapolis, IN. Each time some people would get off and others would get on. It added about an hour or so vs. a nonstop flight, but you couldn't beat the price.

It works if you ain’t in a hurry.

And the way the pilot hit the reverse thrust and the breaks as soon as we touched down, I expected a tail hook to grab some restraining wires like on an aircraft carrier deck.

That was your bonus attraction for the trip. It doesn’t match the excitement of Test Track, but it beats Small World by a mile...

We grabbed our bags off of the baggage claim, wishing that Magical Express operated at our home airports as well.

But at least the bags did make it home

So, how do you kill 20 minutes at an airport?

IMG00247-20110501-1358.jpg

Yeah, I have no idea either.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Classic! (that picture is a keeper)

(Map idea blatantly stolen from Captain_Oblivious. He took my cheeseballs, I took his map. I think we're even.)

It’s just an arms race… now he has to steal something else from you and then you’ll have to respond, and before you know it a Seal Team will have to get involved. It could get messy.

And so our Houston Vacation with a surprise trip to Walt Disney World came to a close. I'll be back with one final entry to wrap everything up and shamelessly plug the TR for our summer trip.

Enjoyed the ride… :thumbsup2
looking forward to the next one (and the one after that ;))

And pretty cool to have the place to yourself. :thumbsup2

I wish I could say that by the time I got back Bambi had the kids up and dressed, but after 5 days in Houston and 4 days at WDW, you couldn't pull those kids out of bed with a tractor.

To be fair, you were going home, and leaving WDW. I'm surprised you got out of bed, actually.

Yes, we were to convince Evan to change into his pants, but he refused to change out of his pajama shirt. We decided that was not a battle worth fighting at 6:00am, so we let him win this round.

Very wise. I'm not sure you can improve on Lego Batman, anyway.

Well, 6:30 came and went and no Magical Express bus. 6:45 and no bus. I went in to the lobby to ask, but since the Magical Express is run by Mears, the cast members at the front desk had no way to contact them to find out where the bus was. :headache:

Well, it's not like you have a plane to catch or anything. Oh, wait...:headache:

Our flight back to Chicago was certainly a new experience to me. Our Southwest flight was billed as "direct", but with 3 stops. We never had to change planes, but we stopped in Birmingham, AL; Louisville, KY and Indianapolis, IN. Each time some people would get off and others would get on. ::yes:: That is a little weird. On my last flight to Florida, it was cheaper to fly back to Baltimore through Long Island. :confused3

And the way the pilot hit the reverse thrust and the breaks as soon as we touched down, I expected a tail hook to grab some restraining wires like on an aircraft carrier deck. I've heard people talk about the short runways at Midway, but experiencing it is completely different.

::yes::
For some reason, it reminds me of the final moments of Mission: Space.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Bambi had to wake him up a few times to remind him to finish chewing his last bite of hotdog before he went to sleep. He'd give her a dirty look, chew 3 more times, then his eyes would flutter shut and she'd have to do it all over again.

Is there any type of food that would be worse to have in your mouth as you fall asleep than a hot dog? When you're at home, do you get the kids up at 1 in the morning to go capture rabid animals? :rotfl2:

We finally made it home and started to unpack. But first, we had two new pins to put in our map - Houston and Galveston, TX.

(Map idea blatantly stolen from Captain_Oblivious. He took my cheeseballs, I took his map. I think we're even.)

I consider this an homage, rather than a ripoff. Whereas I just ripped off the cheeseballs. In any case, it does seem like a fair deal.

And so our Houston Vacation with a surprise trip to Walt Disney World came to a close. I'll be back with one final entry to wrap everything up and shamelessly plug the TR for our summer trip.

My despair at seeing another one of your TR's ending is mitigated by the knowledge that another one is coming. And since I'm considering a surprise trip to WDW in July, I'll be very interested in reading along...popcorn::

In any case, this TR has, as always, been extremely entertaining. Any chance you could do this full-time?

How many times did the bus smack into the center rail?

:lmao:

It’s just an arms race… now he has to steal something else from you and then you’ll have to respond, and before you know it a Seal Team will have to get involved. It could get messy.

Hmm. I wonder if any other ideas will be stolen from Barry. I guess you'll just have to read along here and see!

(Idea of shamelessly plugging my TR here stolen from Barry.)

IMG_6707.JPG

So pretty...and I'll be seeing that in 31 days. :woohoo::woohoo:

Want to know somewhere else that is peaceful? Right here:

Such little angels.

Somewhere before we landed in Louisville, the vacation caught up to her and Madison was out cold.
IMG00246-20110501-1239.jpg

She was exhausted from all that dancing the other day.

And that is exactly why I will NEVER fly out of Midway again. :scared1:

We grabbed our bags off of the baggage claim, wishing that Magical Express operated at our home airports as well. But since they don't I called the hotel where we left the van, and they said their shuttle was about 20 minutes out. So, how do you kill 20 minutes at an airport?

Yeah, I have no idea either.

Must have gotten it from his dad!

We finally made it home and started to unpack. But first, we had two new pins to put in our map - Houston and Galveston, TX.

What an awesome idea, even if it was Mark's.

Barry, I enjoyed this report as much as the last one and I'm sure the next one will be just as good. Although I hope we move a little quicker with the new one, or I'll have to be reading it while on my trip. NOT!!!!! But then again, if you were still doing it when I get back from my trip, I could then SHAMELESSLY plus my TR as others have done here as well. :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! :yay::yay::yay::yay: How exciting for you all!! :goodvibes

Ugh that returning Magical Express trip stinks, doesn't it? I don't know if I'd have the fortitude to get up at 6 for that.

Can't wait for your next TR!!

Congrats Barry and Bambi!!!!

What exciting news! I'm glad to see that you have already planned your third child's first trip to WDW - gotta start that obsession early! :thumbsup2

I can't wait for your next TR! :goodvibes

Barry - what are the odds that you will be at the Brewers - Cubs game this weekend? My son and I will be up there on a bus trip....just thought I would see if you might be there also.
