Housekeeping wake ups on discharge day still going on

It is always a good Idea to use the inner lock when you are in your room.

We had an interesting experience years ago. We check into our room everything looks good. One of my kids gets on the bed and it is wet. Further inspection looks like a person laid down on the bed wet. Then we look closer around the room find a two drink glasses in the sink in the trash can and a t shirt and bikini bottom in the dryer. Everything else was as it should be upon arrival
Seems like the room was done and some how the prior guests came back in after a couple of morning cocktails and last dip in the pool or hot tub . laid on the bed wet and...

I guess some how mouse keeping cleaned the room and the prior guests key cards were still active.
We spoke to the manger who was dumbfounded but assured us that our were the only key cards active for that room. They had housekeeping come back and change everything while we were out .
I think he sent up cupcakes or something .
fortunately the kids were very young so they did not ask what I thought caused the bed to be wet
We've had several instances where we were given a room where someone else had already checked into and several where we'd checked in to a room and then someone else was checked into the same room including once late at night waking us up to someone trying to open the bolted door. And we've had instances where we came back and people were working on the room unannounced. I'd say that most of the time hotels and timeshares do a good job of handling these issues when they have the opportunity for advanced planning but sometimes they don't. In Savannah we came back to our timeshare villa to find someone changing out the TV's, wiring, etc. It was a major project and was going to take several hours. We needed to get changed, shower and go out and while they have the legal right, I am not comfortable with them doing so when I'm not there. Heck, I'm not comfortable with valet parking or bell services taking my things.

Had a good chuckle at this story - we had this happen at BCV a few years ago! Checked in after midnight (we leave after work and airplane delays...) and go in the room to find a bathing suit cover-up on the bed, men's underwear on the floor, and the little shampoos and soaps and one towel in bathroom used and on floor. We were so tired that we just sat there while housekeeping cleaned up - they said no other 1BR available - and had fun surmising what the story behind it all was... Our best guess was someone with access to the room (guest/employee?) had a little rendezvous after the room was cleaned and left in a hurry. Hope the guy had another pair of underwear. It would be interesting to hear how soon after 11am the door unlocking feature of magic bands are turned off. Shouldn't it be right away? Anyone know?

Lisaviolet - your second experience sounds rather creepy. I startle easily and would have been really bothered by that kind of "attention." Yikes.

BTW we had a late flight on check out day (had planned a day at the parks) but instead drove to the airport and got a day room at the Hyatt for $99 and had the most restful day there. The beds are fantastic and we slept like babies. And no knocking before our expected discharge... Just something to consider if you ever need a place to rest before a flight.

Having worked out of hotel rooms for the past 40 years I can believe every story here and can add dozens more. Interestingly enough a lot of the issues we face are driven by customer desires. We used to get a key and check in and out at the front desk, people didn't like the lines. We all want our rooms to be ready when we arrive and don't want to check out until we have to be somewhere else. People do not want to be disturbed but leave the sign out after they leave.

Some of the newer door security systems display an electronic do not disturb when you bolt the door. Services need to prepare the room and we would not support the additional cost of mass employment to turn rooms in 3 or 4 hours. I have not previously called Housekeeping upon leaving room but will start in hopes I can do my part to make things better. I have always however stopped at the desk to announce my departure.

Thanks for the idea.

I hear you Dean! I'm much the same. Always makes me empathize with my terrier who gets territorial when people want to play with her people.

Maybe it was Westcoastwild ...(see quote below)

Every time this has happened to me, it's because I've forgotten to put a do not disturb sign out. But I really can believe that lots of people check out late. I'm one of them, even though I've worked in housekeeping and sympathize when it comes to the time crunch they face. If you pay for the room, you should get to sleep in. Or use the pool one last time. I don't even think a late fee is much of a deterrent. The people who really want to sleep in aren't going to care and management risks offending potential returnees if there's some unforeseen circumstance involved, like a sick spouse or kid.

(I'm not sure they can legally charge an extra night and still get rid of you. I haven't seen management go through with that threat ever).

Lol. Nope, not me, not a bikini person. How does that even happen? Where I've worked and stayed, key cards get turned off either automatically at checkout or at the official checkout time, whichever is earlier!

I've seen the new security system. Also, one I saw last year- light switch by the door turns on a DL not disturb sign outside. I had no idea! That's how I got walked in on that time- Had just figured a previous guest had stolen the sign!

From what I was told, if the Do Not Disturb sign is there then they can not knock. I was waiting for some extra pillows once and they called to say someone had come but since the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door they couldn't knock to let us know they were there.

I haven't been since August so not sure if those signs are no longer there, but if we don't have one in May when DH and I go, I will be requesting one.

We've not had a problem as long as we put out the DND sign the night before.

We always put the sign out and latch the door at night-no issues. I have had people, maid, maintenance walk right in,after a quick tap, in mid day while we are in room.

I'm sorry but I was probably the previous guest that had stolen the sign. I'm not proud of it but I always do Split stays many times a year and get tired of having no sign to hang so as not to be barged in on. I called Mousekeeping numerous times on numerous trips and they never brought me a sign. I was sick and tired of writing on a piece of paper and using a Band-Aid to adhere to door so I solved my own problem the best way I could see fit.

I have had quite a few of those phone calls over the years.

Asked for more of this or that and a phone call saying we couldn't do it because the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door. Or, if they could, they hung it on the door outside. I really try to remember to take it off when I call but it's hit or miss.

It really is all over the place, with how they treat the sign, as this thread shows.

Just checked out at AKV yesterday and had the DND sign on the door, so got no knock at 8:00 AM. But did get the mysterious phone call a little after 8 with nobody at the other end. Guess they were ensuring we were up. It's happened before at BWV so we are just kinda used to it at this point.

I unplug the phone & when there were alarm clocks they were yanked too. Carryover from staying @ other TS wherein the sales calls are frequent
