Housekeeping wake ups on discharge day still going on

FYI: it happens in other (non-Disney) hotels too. I was shocked and furious the first time it happened. I've learned since to put out the Do Not Disturb.

At least half the events we had sign on door. There were no signs in our two villas this trip. Maybe they've removed them? Not that it helps. And it shouldn't be happening without a sign regardless.

And I don't really believe the majority of people are staying past 11. Sure, a few, but there are so many that check out and leave on those early morning airport busses, there's got to be plenty of rooms to start working on.

This has been an issue for the last 9 years we have been members and I'm sure I'm not alone in disliking it. I'm on board with charging for overstaying. That can go into a fund to reduce our dues. If my dues are paying a housekeeper to knock on doors at 8am, they can certainly pay her to knock on those same doors instead at 11am and document who hasn't left. I respectfully play by the rules, even when I have a kiddo sick.

While not the majority overstaying their welcome, I've been told more than a few

When we have a "Do not disturb" sign it always goes on the door when we enter the room/removed when we leave, since majority of our trips are now he & me:love: lol. We've still had the tap, tap our last day.

If those that do leave early for the airport/home would just pick up the phone and push the housekeeping button as they leave to let them know the unit is now empty, this would help. They are just trying to get a jump on their work load.

We always do, an easy way to pay it forward

On the other hand we always let the mouse keepers know when we are done with the room and leaving for good .I hope this helps them turn around the room faster for the next incoming guest.
Are the mystery phone calls also still happening ?

Every time this has happened to me, it's because I've forgotten to put a do not disturb sign out. But I really can believe that lots of people check out late. I'm one of them, even though I've worked in housekeeping and sympathize when it comes to the time crunch they face. If you pay for the room, you should get to sleep in. Or use the pool one last time. I don't even think a late fee is much of a deterrent. The people who really want to sleep in aren't going to care and management risks offending potential returnees if there's some unforeseen circumstance involved, like a sick spouse or kid.

(I'm not sure they can legally charge an extra night and still get rid of you. I haven't seen management go through with that threat ever).

So sorry that happened Anna. Very frustrating.

I guess this is just my personality but I have never understood the numerous "this has never happened to me" posts and that's that, well one day it might since it has happened to many over the years. A problem for one is a problem for all of us. Very Canadian of me.

And just to make this fun :rotfl:-

It has never happened to me Anna! Since 2005. Insert big wink. But I definitely would be right on the phone.

Probably a call to the housekeeping manager so they would retrain a housekeeper about that would be about the only suggestion

This would probably do more than the front desk manager.

Unless the housekeepers have been instructed by their managers to do it. :rolleyes1

We had major issues with our 2 studios this March, one of which involved checkout. A few days after we arrived at the resort we added an extra day to our stay for each room and the CM linked the extra rooms...along with swiping our credit card again. Well, the day before our new checkout day the housekeeper knocked on my son and his girlfriend's door and walked in while they were sleeping. They had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door to start with and secondly we weren't leaving until the next day. We did complain to the manager at the front desk and she said that housekeeping is NEVER supposed to knock or ENTER a room which has a do not disturb sign up on the door. Always latch the door if you don't want someone walking in uninvited!

I had this once with a linked day on our BCV reservation, in the middle of the day. I was sleeping as well. Nothing like a nap on vacation. And nothing like a stranger in your room with a DO NOT DISTURB sign. A male too.

At PVB, I had a housekeeper walk in at night (evening I mean) - again with a DO NOT DISTURB sign - while I was on the balcony. Nothing like thinking you're seeing a ghost when you think you see someone walking around your room.

This stay we also came back from the parks and there was an repair person in our room to "replace the broken hinges on your table" - I think we scared the heck out of him when we entered. We never got a heads up phone call and didn't put the request in, had no clue table had broken hinges. We just let that slide, but what if my DD had come back from the pool by herself and he was in there - she would have been totally freaked out.

If it's simply a matter of housekeeping not knowing who is still in their villa - then we need to require checking out by phone or TV menu to let them know. In this day, there's no excuse for not using that technology that is an industry standard. For heavens sake, they know by my magic band which park rides I'm riding to tag my pictures to...

I did get a phone call today from member satisfaction, but wasn't there to receive it. I'll call tomorrow and update you all on what they say.

As I understand it they have legal access to the room for needed repairs and the like.

I assumed the "this has never happened to me" posts were for survey-like purposes, not to make it seem like the person didn't have sympathy for an OP to whom it had happened.

I would assume so. But they also could have tackled this prior to our 10pm check in. Maybe DVC needs to slow it's growth rate and focus on quality for a while. Eventually it will have an impact. We used to rave about our experience, referred several folks who bought in. We never do that anymore.

Not @ WDW but have had issues with electronic safes being locked when we arrive in our room.

After calling the front desk, a repairman is dispatched but he is always accompanied by security. Had thought it was JIK prior guests' items left behind type of thing.

I Inquired the last time we had to wait for the safe to be opened and told "yes". Guard further stated though that the property had a door lock system in place wherein they could track exactly when/who enters the room. A security measure to protect both the guests & the resort and help sort out any issues.

I wonder if WDW has the same sort of system in place?

I know we've discussed this before and the info suggested hotels (and timeshares) have the legal right to access the room without permission for housekeeping and maintenance issues. I found this on a quick search.
Is there a right to privacy in my hotel room?
Generally, yes, you have a right to expect privacy in your hotel room as long as you are using the hotel room in a normal, responsible way. However, if you are engaging in anything illegal or disturbing other guests, hotel management can enter your room without your permission.

Note that hotel management, not the police, can enter the room without your permission and hotel management cannot give the police permission to search your room. The police must go through the usual process, which usually means getting a warrant before they are allowed to search your room.

A final exception to your right to privacy is for cleaning and maintenance. Hotel management does have the right to enter your room to clean or perform necessary maintenance.

Could be. I hear you.

But I am sticking to my thoughts, I seriously doubt all are listing for survey-like purposes. And some seemed to lack sympathy in their tone. As in I did this and it has never happened - so just do this. Simple. :wizard: :drinking1

There is nothing like posting a very frustrating situation and hearing "never happened to me" over and over or telling the OP why it happened. That's just me. It might not have even bothered Anna one iota, might be totally my disboard hang up over the years. ;)

I always put the DO NOT DISTURB sign on my door. It goes on when I arrive and comes off when I leave - I even miss trash and towel because it stays on. But when I hear so many stories about housekeeping doing this - waking people up early, I would never ever assume that it could never happen to me. Because it happens to other members. And it frustrates me that members are being woken up at ridiculous hours on check out day.

Or knocked before they entered the room.

Absolutely.

And it must be a difficult job for the technician as well, with no notification to those who are occupying the room. Maybe they need one person who makes the phone call that it is scheduled for the day. But then again the family could be out anyway. I thought about a small sign on the door - Technician working inside - so that people aren't startled but maybe that is a security issue somehow. Who knows.

My first housekeeping entry at BCV was easy to understand. Housekeeping had the wrong info, even after I asked the front desk at check-in that it was all in order with the stay and linking (It just happened to be a holiday where I had issues daily - weird awful stay that has never been repeated. And BCV was the last few days.) So understood he was just doing his job. Still jarring and frustrating, but understood the why.

The second, not so much. The housekeeper had been asking us if we wanted turn down service for days. In a DVC room where there isn't any turn down service (They might have been trying to treat us - no idea). The answer, "No but thank you". The sign was on. And she was completely in the room when I saw her from the balcony. She said she was coming in to ask again. I can't imagine entering someone's room with a sign on and not getting an answer at the door (didn't hear her - out on balcony).

It is always a good Idea to use the inner lock when you are in your room.

We had an interesting experience years ago. We check into our room everything looks good. One of my kids gets on the bed and it is wet. Further inspection looks like a person laid down on the bed wet. Then we look closer around the room find a two drink glasses in the sink in the trash can and a t shirt and bikini bottom in the dryer. Everything else was as it should be upon arrival
Seems like the room was done and some how the prior guests came back in after a couple of morning cocktails and last dip in the pool or hot tub . laid on the bed wet and...

I guess some how mouse keeping cleaned the room and the prior guests key cards were still active.
We spoke to the manger who was dumbfounded but assured us that our were the only key cards active for that room. They had housekeeping come back and change everything while we were out .
I think he sent up cupcakes or something .
fortunately the kids were very young so they did not ask what I thought caused the bed to be wet

yes Disney has such a method. When anyone access the room be it maintenance, housekeeping, or even you then they have to tap the MB reader with their entrance material. Each housekeeper is suppose to have a key that is uniquely theirs and I imagine management and maintenance is the same. If there is an issue they can pull up a file to see who has entered the room and what time the lock engaged by that card. They often use this information when they can't catch the exact thief but don't have a small enough window i.e. guests discover their watch is missing but haven't looked in the safe since night 1 of a 7 night stay. They'll start looking at areas of the hotel that have high volumes of missing stuff reports then look at the data on who had access to those rooms and if there is any overlap of the same person.
