We are thinking of stopping in St. Augustine, FL for an overnight stay on our drive to WDW. For all of you who drive to WDW, have anyone ever stopped here to stay the night before and if so what hotel would you recommend staying? Thanks!

Trying to get this back up to the top of the thread so maybe someone will see it who's been there. :teeth:

We have stayed at the COMFORT SUITES which is on the opposite side of the interstate from World Golf Village...very clean, spacious room, nice staff, plus I got a great rate. We like getting beyond Jacksonville and then just being two hours (or less) away from Disney when we get up the next morning. Noticed that you are headed to OKW for a b'day...I was there in Nov. for my 50th (with 5 girlfriends) and it was awesome! Have fun!

Is this also in St. Augustine? How long (hours?) did it take you to get to this point? Thanks for the reply.

Driving from Raleigh NC to St. Augustine area is right around 7 hours, if I am remembering correctly. Interstate all the way so you can usually make great time. Yes, the Comfort Suites is in St. Augustine (or in the very near vicinity anyway).

We've stayed at Casa Monica. It's a very nice hotel and right in the old town section you can walk to everything.

go to this site and hit arial views and it shows where a lot of the hotels are. We are going there for 3 nts in May and then down to BCV for 5 nts. I think we are going to stay at the Bayfront Inn. We never been there before so it's just picking a hotel and hoping for the best.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. paults..that is a very cool site!!!

If folks know that they are going to stop somewhere for the night like St. Augustine, do you think most people reserve a room before they home or just stop and get a room on the when they reach their overnight stay destination?

Mickeyluv depending on when you are travelling you may HAVE to make a reservation in St. Augustine. As much as I love St. Augustine you really have to be careful with hotels there. Some I wouldn't even think about staying in. Another posted mentioned the Bay Front Inn we stayed there once it was clean but very old not modern at all. Depends what you are looking for. The only 2 I would recommend are Casa Monica and the Hilton both are right in the historic district. Wherever you stay it's a very quaint town I'm sure you will like it.

We always stay at the Monterey Inn. It's cheap, clean and has a breathtaking view of the bay. It's in the historic district as well. The only thing is they sometimes have minimum #night stays.

They offer AAA/CAA discounts, too.

Did you want to stay on the beach or in town? What road do you come in on? We stayed at a nice Hilton Garden Inn at the beach.

I agree with the poster that said to plan ahead for a stay in St. Augustine. The "thing" to do there is to stay in a B & B. Stay away from The Mansion. We stayed there several years ago over Memorial Day weekend. Never again!!!

The owner's dog (sp? Chiuaua) bit two other ladies while we were there. :sad2:
