Hotels in New Orleans?

We went in 2015 and stayed at the Hampton Inn on Carondelet, about a block from Canal Street. We stayed on a Government discount for about $150/night, but just checked and rack rates are around $180/night. Very nice hotel with free hot breakfast, right on the St. Charles streetcar line and walking distance to the French Quarter. Highly recommend.

I would love some advice also, been looking at 2 hotels, is one better then the other?
Bourbon Orleans
Or
Maison Dupuy
We will not have a car.
Thanks.

Step one: Is one of these ON Bourbon Street? Exclude it.

Step two: Do both have good ratings on Tripadvisor and are listed at about the same stars? Is one of these significantly more expensive than the other? If yes to the first question, pick the cheaper hotel. If no, evaluate what makes you happiest in a hotel. Pick the one that appeals to you.

Step three: If you still have both on your list and they are similar in price and quality, find St. Louis Cathedral on a map. Locate both hotels in relation to St. Louis Cathedral. Whichever one is closer, pick that one.

I took a peek at the guest rooms and neither appealed to me. If I am staying in the quarter I want old home charm like exposed brick, quaint (small & private) court yard, etc.

when I was at Tulane, my parents use to stay at the Hampton Inn on St. Charles when they came to visit. Its in the Garden District. Right on the Streetcar Line (not trolley, never trolley). It was quiet and included breakfast. There was also a mexicanish restaurant next to it that we would go to. If you go into the CBD I wouldn't stray too far from Canal. I just booked the Crowne Plaza for a June trip. I've never stayed there but reviews are good. I've also stayed at the Monteleone which is on Royal Street. More historic. More old world feel.

We are in NO a LOT for DD's cheer competitions and for off Broadway shows. At least 4 times a year. We always stay on either convention center BLVD or Canal st. All of those hotels should be well within your budget and will give you easy access the the streetcar to Jackson Square and the Garden District as they are close to where the lines intersect. A day pass for the streetcar is about $2 a person and can be purchased via a phone app. Our favorites are, in this order
Doubletree at the head of canal
Westin on convention center blvd
Hitlon New Orleans Riverside
Hampton Inn New Orleans convention ( this one is an old cotton barn converted to a hotel. rooms are small, but lots of character/ history)

Stayed in both, don't like either. Both are on the rundown side. You can do MUCH better for the same money elsewhere if you are willing to spend $2 a day to ride the streetcar.
