Hi there,

I am looking to book a low cost weekend trip in the first week of may-

I was wondering where people tend to stay that they can recommend-

We are hoping for a place with some sort of breakfast included-

Some of the ones I have found that are lower cost are:

Quality Inn & Suites ($71/night)
Desert Inn ($69/night)
Anaheim Del Sol Inn ($78/night)
Castle Inn ($78/night)

Has anyone stayed at these and can comment/recommend?

I've stayed at the Desert Inn 2 times before :flower3:

We got a cheap rate, about $60 a night and it was great for that price. It's so close to the gates, a couple of mins walk to the entrance. There are lot's of food options right nearby, and we used the laundry onsite which was good too. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a really basic, but we did pick up fruit and juice to go each morning.

Hope that helps :thumbsup2

We love the Candy Cane Inn! :thumbsup2
Free parking.
Free WiFi.
Free breakfast.

And if you put 'DIS' in the promotion box on their website, you will get a discount.

I've stayed at Castle Inn. It used to be a fairly nice place (well, for a "budget" place) to stay. After my last experience, though...never, ever, ever again. Besides being dirty and scary, it is also way overpriced for what it is. It gets really bad reviews here on the Disboards, too, so my experience wasn't an unusual one, I gather :scared1:

If you can get the Entertainment Card rate (starts at $59 for a standard room with SUPER-comfy beds), HoJo's is a nice place to stay. They don't offer breakfast, though. There are 2 pool areas, one is a kids' play area. Some of the rooms have a view of Disneyland, but those aren't the $59 a night ones.

If you want someplace within walking distance that's cheap (rooms start at $59 if you book them through their website) but still clean and not scary, Anaheim Plaza Hotel is worth looking into. The beds aren't the most comfortable, and the decor is pure 1988, but the rooms are really big and the pool is HUGE and heated. It's a "no frills" place, to be sure, but the price is right.

If you don't mind taking the ART bus or driving, there's Best Western Stovall's on Katella. That's my favorite place to stay; the rooms have all been redone recently, they all have a fridge & a microwave, breakfast is included, and the pool area has 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, a kiddie pool, and is surrounded by animal shaped topiary trees. You can get a room for around $80 a night if you book ahead and/or use AAA's discount.

Hojos is Howard Johnson right?:surfweb: How do I know when the entertainment rate is available? is that the entertainment book?

We will be flying so would prefer a close walking hotel :)

What's nice about CCI is that it is on the same side of the road as DL and just 2 blocks from the front gates AND they even have a shuttle going back and forth to DL as well!

You can also use AAA and AARP to get a discount.

Quality Inn & Suites ($71/night)
Desert Inn ($69/night)
Anaheim Del Sol Inn ($78/night)
Castle Inn ($78/night)

Of these I would say Desert inn. That's a pretty low rate you found. If you stay at the Del Sol, which doesn't get a lot of responses here, it's basic but just a 50 feet further than the Desert Inn.

Castle inn I would rule out right away. QI&S get some mediocre reviews but I would pass at that price.

As mentioned CCI is pretty nice, and has the shuttle option to walking, it is about 8 minutes away while the other I mentioned above are 3.

I would aslo suggest the Park Vue Inn which offers some more bang and is closer, but costs more just like CCI does.

Never stayed at any of those and have only stayed at the Ramada Inn Maingate which we have booked again for this trip and really enjoy the place. They have everything from regular rooms to suites depending on party size. An easy walk to the parks which we have done and are doing with kids.

They have a "continental" breakfast which is pretty bare bones but in my limited experience as I stayed at Carosuel and it was about the same size/quality. Its not like a "continental" at a hotel away from the parks. We are not huge breakfast eaters right out of bed so it works for us. Also all rooms come with a fridge and microwave which can be handy.

Yep, HoJo's is Howard Johnson...here's a link to when the Entertainment Card rates are available: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 There aren't any dates posted for May yet, but as it gets closer there should be some posted; it's definitely worth checking out :thumbsup2

I've stayed at the Quality Inn & Suites on Machester.

I got the room for about $45/night though. I would not pay more than that. The last time I booked it was through lastminutetravel dot com. It was pretty easy for me to tell it was the Quality Inn from the description so I knew what I was getting before I booked.

The rooms are okay. Nothing spectacular. Shower heads are really low but they have hot water!

The continental breakfast consists of make it yourself waffles, bread (toast), english muffins, donuts/danishes, oranges, hard-boiled eggs, instant oatmeal, 2 cereals and juice.

The walking distance is about 10-15 minutes to the entrance gates if your feet are not hurting, about double at the end of the day and your feet are dying.

I already booked CCI for April - I thought the DIS was for the AAA or AARP discount (whatever that stands for :goodvibes) according to their website.

If it is a DIS Boards discount and I am incorrect (I booked over the phone and paid rack rate) please let me know.

I believe you are correct. I have been told by CCI that the "DIS" is AAA or AARP. The only discounts I have every heard of at CCI are AAA, AARP, military, and CCI's own return visit discount. I don't know about the military discount, but none of these other discounts are very large, but hey it's something.

Earlier this year I read/saw somewhere that you can know exactly what the room LMT is selling you before you "buy" - I forget how to do it though....

ETA- here it is ~ http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=112137&st=0

No, I did not mean DIS as in DISboards at all.

Just put DIS in as in discount and it will give you your best rate! CCI takes AAA and AARP. :thumbsup2

I don't think I said DIS as in DIS Boards in my post either.

How big is your group?
I like the La Quinta Inn, best hotel for the money that I have found in the area. Breakfast, Pool, and kid suites for $89, so the regular rooms are probably less than that. For us, the kid suites are the best, there is a set of french doors that seperate the kids room from the adult room, and the kids have bunk beds and a small table. It is about a 15 minute walk, but totally doable. If not, there is always ART
My other favorite is Park Vue Inn, which you can't get any closer unless you sleep in the security tent! And nothing beats eating a free hot breakfast with the matterhorn in the background! They also have rooms with bunkbeds if you need them. Their prices are also around $100 per night.
A few nights ago we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Buena Park, which was AWESOME, and I would definately stay there again in the future. It is not in walking distance, but they do have a free shuttle to and from the park, you just have to arrange it with the front desk ahead of time. Kids eat free, all meals, and the night we stayed there, we had all you can eat Prime rib for cheaper than a quick-service meal in the park! The beds were super comfortable, the rooms large and quiet. We stayed there on points, but in researching we saw the rooms start around $100. They are a few blocks from Midevil times, if you wanted to check that out, and we saw a shuttle going there from the hotel also.
Good Luck, planning is half of the fun!

Just wanted to check in case I missed something - I knew that HoJo's do have a rate for DIS Boards and wondered if here might be the same.

You could get a one bedroom suite at Americas Best Value Inn on Katella for less than $70 per night off peak... Free Wifi, free parking, free breakfast and no resort fees etc.. Its about a 15 minute walk to the DL gates though... You would get a smaller room for less than $60... Nice grounds and clean but decor is a little dated... The other one to try that's a little closer is Anaheim Plaza...
