We just got back from a stay at The Catamaran in San Diego. It is on Mission Bay and we absolutely loved it. The lobby is beautiful, there is a gorgeous waterfall and parrots on the grounds along with ponds full of koi fish and ducks.

We got a free upgrade when we got there and our room had an amazing view of the bay. The room was big, there was a huge flat screen TV, the balcony was wonderful, the view was amazing, the beds were comfortable and everything was clean.

The pool was nice and you can also walk right out to the bay and relax on the beach and there is also a path for walking and riding bikes that goes along the bay right along the beach. The hotel rents bikes, segways, and even paddle boats, kayaks and little sail boats.

I thought this hotel was going to be far from the typical San Diego activities, but Sea World was only about a 5 minute drive, the Zoo was only about 12 minutes, and Old Town was only about 8 minutes. Of course the Wild Animal park is farther (but it is out of town regardless of where you stay). Everything was very close and right off the freeway and it was easy to zip around. There is even a small little amusement park down from the hotel, but we didn't go to it. It looked like a mini boardwalk and had some roller coasters and you pay per ride.

We ate at one of the hotel restaurants called the Atoll. It was good, but a little expensive (typical hotel restaurant prices). We had breakfast down the street one morning at a place called the Mission and it was fabulous!!! Soooo yummy. But get there early because it is popular and you could have a long wait.

We booked this trough a air/hotel package through Travelocity and got a great deal. To book this hotel separately was pretty expensive (for us), but the package was a really good deal. But we absolutely loved it and would definitely stay again!

Thanks for posting the pictures. We stayed at the Catamaran in May 2007 we really enjoyed our stay. Were there any weddings going on while you were there? There were 3 weddings while we stayed very pretty right on the beach.

Nope, no weddings (but we left Saturday night to go to a wedding at another site). There was a Pillsbury company picnic going on Saturday around lunch time and we had fun spying on that while we ate lunch. It seemed like a great spot for a wedding or event...minus the fact that it is pretty easy for other people to watch- but as long as you don't care about that, it is really pretty!

My sister-in-law got married at this hotel back in '98, and I thought it was nice back then, too. I'd love to really stay there. :)
