We're thinking of going down to the beach for a long weekend in a few weeks. Anyone stayed at a oceanfront hotel with indoor pool that you would recommend?
Thanks!

I would recommend going somewhere else, lol! Myrtle Beach is kind of dumpy and way over the top for touristy stuff. The hotel strip is hotel after hotel so close you can shake hands with someone in the room opposite you in the next resort. There could be a really nice hotel next to a total flea trap. Not my favorite place to go, obviously. I liked the beaches and towns on the New Jersey coast MUCH better then Myrtle Beach. If you golf, it is a great place to go, but to go just for the beach, there are MUCH better places to go.

We're considering this for summer vacation. From all I can gather staying in North Myrtle Beach is preferable. There are lots of properties. We are looking more towards a resort that has condos but two really nice ones that friends have stayed in and recommended to us are Baywatch and Ashworth. Both of these resorts have indoor pools and lazy rivers. Try www.northmyrtlebeach.com and plug in the dates you're considering. The rates should be reasonable at this time of year. It's possible to be pretty warm in mid-March in SC as well.

I also recommend North Myrtle beach. We held a family reunion at
The Long Bay Resort
several years ago and had a great time!

I have spent most of the summers of the 46 years of my life in Myrtle Beach. It has grown so much over the years. Yes, some parts can be dumpy and tacky, but other areas are fantastic, esp. for families. Remember that it is cold this time of year. However, you can still have a lot of fun. North MB is nice, but it is a bit of a drive to where all the action is. The hotels around Restaraunt Row are very nice, but tend toward being more expensive. Most of the hotels have an indoor pool. I'm going to ditto Blondie's suggestion of the Long Bay Resort. It's where I always stay and I love it. It's a wonderful location. It's at the northern end of Myrtle Beach (around block 7200 North), but not in the city/town of North Myrtle Beach. However, you are just about halfway between NMB and a great shopping/dining/entertainment complex in regular MB called Broadway at the Beach.

As far as MB being "dumpy" I guess to each his own. MB is one of my fave places to vacation. I will say that I don't like it around the Pavilion area, though because it is too touristy, and dare I say it - dumpy!

We've been before, and we really don't care about the touristy stuff, just a decent hotel with an indoor pool on the beach. And the beaches in the MB area are actually the closest for us.

I would recommend the Landmark Hotel in Myrtle Beach. It is an older hotel, but the pool area is amazing. It is like a indoor water park.

Last summer we stayed at the new Marriot Grand Dunes which was just beautiful! Reminded us of a Disney Resort! Very fancy but still family friendly. Had to be the nicest place that we've stayed in after three trips to MB. It is in a section called Grand Dunes which is all $$$$ homes, no flea bag motels next door!

BTW, we love MB. I don't think it is "dumpy" at all. Some of the downtown/Pavillion area is maybe old and a little run down but for the most part there seems to be never ending building and development there with tons of things to do, new places to eat, lots of shopping and shows, etc.
Now when we go to Wildwood,NJ that is what I would call dumpy! But we love it anyway since we're on the beach and altough where we stay is old and totally "1960" it is family run, very clean and just a very simple vacation.

I second the recommendation for Landmark--it is showing its age, but the pools are great for this time of year. I also like that they have a parking garage with a covered walkway bridge across Ocean Boulevard--makes it much safer getting to and from the car.

We also stayed at Crown reef, which is on the southern tip of M.B. I liked it, but the indoor pools weren't that great--It was great for summer though.
