Hotel near LAX?

We are spending a few days at DL when we first arrive on Feb. 2, staying at the HoJo, and then driving down and spending a few days at a friend's house in Encinitas.

I've left the night before our flight home open, whether we stay at our friend's and get up early for the drive to LAX or drive up the night before and stay at a hotel near the airport. Our flight is at 11:55am on Saturday Feb. 9.

First of all I was wondering how much time to allow if we get up early the morning of our flight and drive up from Encinitas. Is the traffic still bad early on a Saturday morning?

Secondly, can anyone recommend a hotel in the airport area. We'll also have to return the rental car to National.

I was also considering booking back into the HoJo but probably won't have time to do anything at DL and that we should just stay closer to the airport.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! :)

If you have a late morning flight, you could take the chance and get up early to drive to LAX. Last summer, on a Saturday, we were driving on the I-5 in the morning and got caught in traffic congestion in multiple areas between Anaheim and San Diego. As we didn't have a plane to catch, I didn't feel any stress. I think it all depends on how relaxed/frazzled of a morning you want it to be.

If I were in your position, I'd use Priceline.com for a hotel in the LAX area. Hotels in the 3* or 4* are inexpensive through Priceline. Friends who have done that got the Sheraton LAX for about $40 per night. Plus they got up at a reasonable time, had a leisurely breakfast before they caught their flight. That sounds a lot more relaxing.

Have a fun trip!

My mom and I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot LAX one night before a cruise to Mexico. It was super nice and extremely quiet! The room we had was HUGE, and we only booked at standard!

Thanks for the information about your I-5 experience c& m, that's what I am afraid of happening to us. DH would probably be ok if we encountered traffic congestion but I know I'd be too frazzled! I haven't tried Priceline before but might look into it.

I'll also check out the Courtyard, cutedisneygirly. Thanks!

If the Courtyard by Marriott is the one on Mariposa Street, also check out the Doubletree Suites in the same area - they have a shuttle that will take you to the airport. These hotels are probably a mile or two from the airport. You also have the higher end hotels closer to the airport on Century Blvd - Marriott, Renaissance, Embassy Suites...

I travel to LA alot for business, and if I want to stay by the airport, I always stay at the LAX Marriott. It has a wonderful courtyard area, and getting a courtyard view room is great!

Great Marriott service too! I was in the bar one night, and the bartender and a few patrons were bagging on the Chiefs. When I spoke up that I was from KC, the bartender felt so bad, he bought me a beer!!

They also have a free shuttle, so you could turn your car in the night before, and not have the stress of doing that the day of departure.

HTH!

We used Priceline for LAX hotel. A 3* will get you something like the Marriott, Sheraton. It worked wonderful for us. As stated leisurely breakfast, free hotel shuttle to the airport, no traffic worries. I do not remember the exact price, but under $60
