Is there any chance to get into a moderate resort to work? instead of a value resort? Can you request which one you want to work in?

All resort levels (Value, Moderate, DVC and Deluxe) and almost every individual resort are represented in CP hospitality roles. You can make requests, but I would suggest doing such sooner rather than later.

The idea of requesting role locations seems to be something a lot of people have questions about. What is the appropriate way to tell your contact person your preferred role location? Is it something they expect after you have been accepted or are you crossing the line a little by listing your favorite locations for the role you were given?

In my opinion, take it for that, the best time to do it would be during the interview when you are talking about the roles you want and dont want. That would serve 2 purposes. The first being that you specifically state the locations you would like to work. The second, leaving little doubt in their minds about the actual role you want and dont want. Like if you don't want to do quick service, you wouldn't talk about quick service at all. You would talk about attractions and specifically state "I'd like to work at the Great Movie Ride" or if you wanted to do hospitality, "I'd really like to work at the Contemporay because my family always stays there".

Now if the interview is already over, I'd send a message to wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com. The recruiters don't really do the actual placement into locations. The people who stay in the offices and handle all of the applications and all of that do that. One of my old roommates did a PI in recruiting and told me all about that. She would go through the files for everyone arriving on a certain date who was in a certain role and place them into the locations. So if you contact the recruiting office, it will go to those people and they can make note of it on your file.

They will tell you that they can't promise anything. The reason is probably because only so many people can go to a certain place. but they will make note and try to honor your request

Are you already assigned or just asking of all CP hospitality work at values? My friend worked Boardwalk Spring Advantage 07, so it's defnitely a possibility to work there. I saw tons of CP at Coronado Springs when I visited a month ago.

From what I've been told, it all depends on need. The management at X resort calls up casting and says I need this many people for front desk and they assign them to that resort.

As far as requests go, use the general recruiting address (referenced above), or the contact information for your specific recruiter as listed on your offer packet. Requests are noted in your profile, and when it comes time for casting to select who gets what location, these requests are taken into consideration.

As far as which resorts take CPs as resort hospitality hosts/hostesses, like I said before, most do. I knew hospitality CPs/ICPs from every every single Magic Kingdom resort (including the Grand Floridian), the numerous deluxe resorts at the Epcot and DAK resort areas, Port Orleans (both sides), Coronado Springs, Saratoga Springs and the various All Star resorts.

Role locations really depend on departmental needs, though. It's factored between local leadership and the labor offices.

I went down there in the Hospitality role and wanted to get a Deluxe hotel because I thought it would be more fun...

Then at DU when you get your role...I learned I would be in a moderate...

After being at a moderate for awhile, I looked at my schedule and saw I got deployed to a VALUE !!! I was so mad. There was no way in heck I wanted to get downgraded to a value resort....

After being at the Value resort for a week, I didnt want to leave. I had some of the best experiences ever working there and the guests where 100x better than the ones I dealt with at the mod and deluxes.

Go down there with an open mind, never know where you will like the best.

great advice... still debating if i can afford to take time off from school and apply for the program. Hospitality would def be my ideal role.

I did Spring 2007 and extended through Fall, and I worked the spring in a moderate, and the fall in a deluxe. Each one of the three categories has its benefits and its downsides though, which is something most people do not consider. I was also deployed to Pop Century and Saratoga Springs for a while, so I've had experience at a Value and a DVC resort as well...here's my two cents about each of the levels

Value
Though not as cushy to work or stay at, Value resorts are a blast. There were times that I actually wished that Pop was my home resorts. They all play fun music, are busy and upbeat, so there is very little downtime, and you work with a lot of other CP's, which is a lot of fun. Also, a lot of the guests here are 1st timers, and you really have a big opportunity to make a lot of magic And, they typically don't complain too much as well! And, if you're there to learn and experience things, you will learn significantly more in a week at a value/moderate than at a deluxe, due to the sheer volume alone.

Moderate
In a moderate, you get a decent amount of CP's to work with, much like the value, but with this, you also get a good variety of guests. Most of the moderates have at least some amount of convention guests, which is another good type to be exposed to. You'll get tons of this at Coronado, so if you're wanting to get into conventions, this is a perfect location.

Deluxe
Deluxe resorts are a blast to work, but they are VERY different from the moderate and value ones. It's a very different dynamic both with the cast and guests. You are typically not working with many CP's, and the guests tend to be a bit more challenging. Although, if you are a problem solver, and like a challenge, then it's a great place to be. There are a lot of repeat guests at deluxe resorts, so they've grown to expect that quality Disney service, and will let you know if they are not receiving it At the same time though, these guests are some of the best that you'll encounter, and you can do a lot of extra special things for them, to make this trip stand out among the rest. One of the downfalls to a deluxe resort though is that it can get a little mundane at times, because there are typically not all to many check ins in a day. If you like to stay busy, a value or moderate is probably a better fit. Also, if you're lucky enough to get concierge trained (which most CP's do not, but if given the opportunity, GO FOR IT), you may also have the opportunity to work in the club concierge level, which is a TOTALLY different experience, and a ton of fun. Keep in mind though that the deluxe resorts do have the concierge lounge as well, so even though you do hospitality, you may be working a few breakfasts and dinners...these are only in deluxe though.

So, there's my opinion of the 3 resort categories...so there are definitely benefits to each one! Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions!!!

Cool! which ones did you work at? I am in hospitality for this upcoming fall and i was trying to think of one to request. (i know that it is obviously not guaranteed i just wanted them to have my request on file, just in case!)

I've been statused at Coronado Springs and the Polynesian, and I was deployed to Pop Century, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I've picked up shifts at All Star Sports, Yacht Club, and Beach Club. I definitely recommend the Polynesian...it has great guests and cast...I love it there! Also, I really loved Pop Century (it's groovy! Whoa, that was cheesy). If you're in it to really learn a lot about the industry though, I'd suggest either Coronado (that way you get experience around conventions, if that is what you want to go into), or possibly Animal Kingdom Lodge. Since Animal Kingdom Lodge is a deluxe resort and a DVC resort, you get both kinds of guests. Yacht and Beach is like that as well. I hope that helps!!! Every resort has something special and different to offer, which is what makes it such a great learning experience. No matter where you get placed, just pick up shifts at other resorts so you can see how things work in other places....good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions!!!

My experience was somewhat like the ones below, with the exception that I didnt enjoy the deluxes.

Deluxe - The deluxes I worked at had a very "stuffy" atmosphere and the guests were generally pretty rude if they didnt get all of their requests. Usually there were also relatively very few check ins per day compared to the other resorts, so it was boring standing at the desk for 8 hour shifts and have 12 check ins due in to arrive when you got to work.

Mods - Most of them that I was at was ok. More of a laid back atmosphere, lesser demanding guests than those at the deluxes, and typically more check ins than the deluxes, so as long as you arent on the 6pm-230am shift, you will stay pretty busy and time goes by faster.

Values - Most fun I had at Disney as far as hospitality goes. Both values have recent pop music playing and has a very lively atmosphere. Most of the families that tend to stay at these resorts are the ones that have kids and are here for the first time and are very excited to be here. Majority of the guests here are not demanding at all and you can play off of their excitement, get the kids all excited, and in general have fun at work. The values usually have anywhere from 700-1000+ check ins a day, so you end up staying busy the whole time and time goes by much faster.


Went to Disney wanting to be in a deluxe resort and got put in a moderate. Ended up getting deployed to a deluxe and hated it. Few weeks later I was transferred to PoP century and ended up never wanting to leave. Take it for what its worth.

I was a little bummed i didnt get it, but decided i'd be workign for Disney and shouldn't care what my role is.... so the day comes to get my location and they put me in THE BEST WESTERN.....

i started crying and yelling "SO I DON'T EVEN GET TO BE ON PROPERTY AT ALL!!!!!!!!! IS THIS SOME KIND OF SICK JOKE????"

interesting! Did she say why her least favorite was saratoga? Anywhere has to be better than the hotel i work at now Really... with doing the CP I would love to do something that I don't do now... I would LOVE to be in the parks! Character attendant is my 1st choice... hospitality would be like my 4th.

I worked at Saratoga Springs as well. Out of the 8 resorts I worked at during my time at Disney, it was also my least favorite.

The guests there are very demanding because they are DVC members, and no matter how hard you try, there just is no way to please some people. Couple the fact there is an above average number of rude guests there, the stuffy enviroment in the atmosphere, and the fact there is a very low number of check ins usually per day = you standing in 1 spot for 8 hours with nothing to do.

I remember quite to well going there for the 6pm-230am shift and there being less than 20 check ins due, out of my 8 hour shift, I stood at the front desk for 7 hours doing absolutely nothing.

Best experience I ever had at Disney was working at PoP century. Guests were excited to be there, kids were amazed at the bowling game we played in the lobby, people joined in on the dance at 6pm, and there was a billion check ins everyday that kept you busy. Before you knew it, shift was over.

i know the stand-there-and-do-nothing-for-8-hours thing alllll too well I do that at my job now. Sometimes when i arrive at my hotel there are less than 10 check ins left. Makes it for a long night, but at least it would be something i'm used to.

I can understand the demanding DVC members, too. I've seen them when I stay there. I guess one good thing about me working in the industry and going to other hotels... I make SURE to thank the employees and try extra hard to be polite and understanding because I know just how much those bad days/nights suck and the last thing Employees need is a rude guest
