Horrible stay at POP

Chris5568,

Do you recall the name of the housekeeping manager? What section were you in? We had a similar problem in the bathroom, only we also had bugs squished on the wall in the room as well as something worse..yuck! The room was flithy. I also called the manager and by the time he got there I told him I wanted to change resorts. No offer of a room credit - he asked if he could have it cleaned while we were at MVMCP. I did not have a camera, and probably would not have thought to take photos anyway because I was so disgusted I just wanted out of there.

We did stay after the room was cleaned, but it was not cleaned as thoroughly as I first thought when I saw it at midnight!

Wrote to guest services in December, but so far have received an auto reply.

This was my second stay at POP - the first stay was great, the room was very clean - that was in Feb of 2004, but maybe it's hard for them to keep up now.

Keep us posted, please? Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I have yet for our family to stay in a hotel room and:

1. drip blood on sheets and pillowcases
2. Leave "brown" remains all over the outside of a toilet
3. Leave pools of bodily fluids on the bed

or any number of other incidents listed in this thread! I mean, what is going on with these people?

Reminds me of a funny incident my DH had at work. He went to the men's restroom to see diahrrea splattered all over the TOP of a urinal. Not only did he make skid marks running out of there, for the life of us, we can't figure out how the culprit committed the crime! :earseek:

Other downsides to POP, which WERE expected, as it is a Value resort:
A) Horrible bus service - large crowds, inconsistant pick ups, no organization with regards to lines of people waiting, etc.
B) Loud neighbors all nite - again this wasn't a bid deal because it certainly is NOT Disney's fault. Value resort = kids/families = noise.

On a better note, we stayed at CSR the next nite, and everything was perfect. This trip was basically for me and my gf to decide whether it would be worth getting annual passes to make for a couple inexpensive weekend getaways over the year. POP has made an otherwise easy decision more difficult.

Jim

Same reasons why I didn't like All Star Sports and will never stay at a value resort again. My overall impression was ICK! And when we were there transportation was horrible. We'd never stayed on property prior to that, so we thought that was just the way it was until we stayed at the moderate and deluxe. I remember the line to get on the bus was always long. And when the bus arrived it was always full. We waited so long people were sitting down on the sidewalk to rest. And it's true there was no organization. We'd stand there for what felt like forever, and someone would walk right up and get on the bus before us. The way it's set up you can't really form a true line. They need to put up ropes or someting. But in all fairness, I've noticed this problem all over Disney. Don't get me started on the noise. OMG!! Kids running up and down those concrete stairs at all times of the day or night. Never again! Seems like POP would be a little better since it's new. Sorry about your experience. Good thing you were only there one night.

I know there have been several negative posts about POP, including my own experience last December, but I think the far, far majority of posts about the POP have been very postive.

Our first stay was perfect - after my adjustment to a value resort! That's why I returned. Although I'll never understand why folks leave a room in such disgusting shape, I expect the resort to get it cleaned up back to tip top condition - it could happen at any resort and we'll very likely stay at POP again. :)

At the POP we had a view as good as any moderate, maybe better! Beautiful lake, TOT, Spaceship Earth, Illuminations!! No bus problems, no other problems at all. I've seen furry creatures at every resort - after all, it's Florida.

I've been staying at Disney Resorts since 1981 and have had only a few instances when we called about the room condition or any other serious matter. I'd say 4 times in over 30 yrs - not a bad record and I am very fussy about my room..cleaniness, location etc.

I do think Disney standards have gone down as it's gotten so large, but it is still a wonderful vacation and I think they do a pretty good job. Few places lack room for imporvement! ;)

My 2 cents ;)

Christine,
I don't recall the name of the housekeeping manager, if it pops in my head I'll let you know. We had just gotten a new digital camera and I happened to notice it on the bed and figured I would snap a couple pictures in case they tried to say it was only a spot. Because it was a very large spot. The whole front part of the bowl. By the way cool name :cool1: That's my name too. Christine. lol

My DH went into a restroom of a local nice Thai restaurant and said it was the grossest sight he'd ever seen. Poop all over the whole restroom. My DH quickely escaped and found a manager. He didn't tell me many details until after our meal, but I know he will never return to that restaurant since he'd think about what happended there, even thought it wasn't exactly the restaurants fault. Yuck!

OMG :earseek: Am I ever sorry I read this thread. It sounds like the OP was very gracious in dealing with management. i would have absolutely "lost it" over something like that.

That is so totally gross! I just wanted to fill y'all in on a little secret (well, not sure how secret it is but here goes anyway). I just booked a Grand Gathering for November. The CM who took my ressies told me that he was going to put us down for the "White Glove Benefit", which I believe he said is done automatically for Grand Gatherings, but needs to be requested otherwise.

The "White Glove Benefit" supposedly is a super-duper-outrageous cleaning that is done to your room prior to check-in, even more so than the typical between-guest cleanings. I'm not sure what it entails, but I will definitely be asking for that for any future stays. And of course, if I had any problems in the past I would be certain to let the CM know on the phone. I would tell them that my dissatisfaction had made me leery of booking but that if they promise to really be careful next time...

No the housekeeping manager that we dealt with was a woman. I know the GM of PC and CBR is Dave something and his assistant is Diane if any of that helps.

I heard from executive offices today. What a laugh. They apologized. The women I talked to Lacresha said PC followed guide lines. They cleaned it up (mighty nice of them huh) and offered a 50% off that night. That is all they do. I told her if she stayed at another resort and it happened to her she would expect a little more. Again she apologized and said they have offered all that is required. I'm so p'ed off if I didn't have AP I wouldn't go back for awhile. Now the problem is when I go back where do I stay. I had really like PC the two times before. Was it just a fluke? Are the other Values just as likely to have had this problem? Or any resort for this matter? Am I expecting too much from disney? Not the cleanlinest, but I thought they would have offered a couple of nights stay.

Christine, I am glad you heard something from them even tho it was not what you might have hoped for - I've not heard a word yet and did not even get the 50% offer at the time. I think when the manager saw the room I'd already cleaned up outside the bathroom (other than the squiched bugs and snot on the wall) and the toilet lid was shut so he did not see all the feces on the seat.

I really did not have any expectation when I wrote other than more than an auto reply.

Chris, I have the same issue about where to stay next time. I like to stay at a deluxe or moderate for longer stays or a summer visit, but I really like the POP for 5 nights or less. The first time I was there the room was great. And I know others who stayed at the exact same time I was there for MF, only a few rooms away on the same floor, same section, and they had no problems with the room being clean.

I'm sure I'll give it one more try, but if I have a similar experience I will change resorts immediately. I do enjoy the POP and with the Lake view it does not feel like a value!

Thanks for the update! :flower1:

I've never done 2 or 3, but my DD occasionally gets bloody noses in her sleep, so we have had the 'fun' experience of number 1. In those instances, we take the sheets and pillowcases off of the bed and leave them on the floor to ensure that they get cleaned, whether it's for us or for the next guests.

We have stayed at PC 3 times, this last time being the only time that we had a problem. So don't worry too much. But check the sheets and toilet.

if you liked pop, then go back again. stuff like this happens EVERYWHERE, not just disney, but even at disney, i have heard horror stories from even their highest resorts(grand floridian), so it can happen. it bites, but if you liked the resort, go back and hope for the best(you could go back and this time find the cleanest room ever) :grouphug:

I am so glad you replied to this situation. It is an unfortunate incident which could happen to anyone in any hotel but I am going to be staying at the Pop for 13 nights in February and have only read good things about the resort. This is our first real vacation in 22 years of marriage. We are not taking any children. Just my husband and me and it will be our first time to WDW. I would hate to think only bad before even arriving. Thank you for putting in a good word :cool1: :cheer2:

I have to say I'm another person who does not care for POP. It was our first experience staying on Disney property, so we did not have the mods or deluxes to compare to. Strictly as a hotel/resort room goes, it wasn't too bad. A little on the small side, but ok for 4-5 days.

We had great housekeeping while we were there, but I was disappointed in the condition of the bathroom particularly. There was mold/mildew on the ceiling, peeling wallpaper, and there was some unidentifiable substance on the walls.

The CM's were great, but we had a serious issue with maintenance.

The noise level was also unacceptable. I'm not talking about rude or thoughtless guests. Our family had the 3 end rooms in the 70's building (can't remember which letter but the building in the back overlooking the lake). We were at the far end so the only noise we had was from each other. Every time one of our family members flushed their toilet, turned on the TV, opened/closed the door we could hear it, and hear it quite well. It woke us up several times during the night. Our other family members said they could hear everything as well. They also didn't properly secure the large signs on the building and they creaked and honked all night our first night (windy). It kept us up all night and maintenance laughed about it when we called. Totally unacceptable and I'm still angry every time I think about it.

We didn't have terrible problems with the bus service, but stood most of the time. We were packed like sardines on the buses. The best bus driver we've ever had, though, was going back to POP after a long day at the parks (it was midnight). He was so funny and very informative.

The biggest complaint regarding bus "service" was the extremely long walk to and from the bus stop.

We've since stayed at POFQ, and it beat POP by a mile.

All in all, based on our experience alone, if my only choice is POP, I'll keep saving my money until I can afford a moderate.

thank you everyone my son and i will have a super time and save a little money also at pop :cloud9: my rate is so good i am not going to change , thank you again

That really is gross. Having said that, I stayed at Pop last August for 10 days and I had a really good time. My room was immaculate and never had those types of problems. In fact, I'm going back this August. That type of thing can happen anywhere, so for those of you who are going to Pop, don't despair. Check it out for yourself.
