We have been to WDW seventeen times since 1983, including six at BCV since 2002, yet we never have gone to Hoop-Dee-Doo, Spirit of Aloha Show or Mickey's Backyard BBQ. We have the time, but once were on the property (even if we could get reservations) we never think about any of those places to eat. In order to get any break in the price, AP or other, you have to book the late seating, which has been the deterrent…neither of us like late dinners.

For those who have gone, has the experience been worth it? If we were to pick only one venue during our next trip, which would you suggest. What discount programs, other than the AP discount, are offered at any of these venues?

Do the 'Doo'. Everyone has to go to Pioneer Hall at least once in their life.

I think it's just too popular a show for them to give discounts on the early seatings. But don't worry, you could pick up a summer job to cover the cost. How'd you like to mow my lawn?

all 3 but agree with Rink do the Hoop Dee Doo its a lot of fun and good ol pic nic food. :cool1:

We haven't done the Spirit of Aloha show, I understand it's different than the luau which we had done. I enjoyed the Hoop dee doo and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue about the same. The children we had with us at the Barbecue enjoyed the line dancing, and I think they offered the best watermelon there that I've ever had!

We've done all three. I rank them as follows:

3. Backyard Barbecue. Set up picnic style, if you're in the back of the line, you're getting cold beans and hot dogs. Additionally, just how much line dancing can you stand? We did not enjoy it at all, and the "fun" wore off our kids very early into the program. In fact, DH took DD back to the resort early because she was just not happy.

2. Luau. Entertaining with good food. I really enjoyed this show. The kids were very entertained, especially with the fire-baton twirler. The only drawback is that it can be canceled due to weather. I like to have my evenings planned, so this is a big deal to me. If you can go with the flow, give it a try. Oh, one other potential drawback is being seated with a big pole in front of you.

1. The Hoop. We've seen it, gosh I think 7 times or so. The food isn't fancy, so if you're looking for your money's worth on food alone, you won't get it. The food is however tasty, and they will accomodate additional requests if you'll give them advance notice. The show is just outstanding. Our children enjoy it, we enjoy it, and when we took our parents along, they enjoyed it. I think its probably the safest bet of the three. This would definitely be my recommendation to you!

Have fun!

There is a DVC discount to the last Hoop Dee Doo show (I think 20%). We just booked it for an upcoming trip. The last show is at 9:30pm, which is late (especially for the kids), but we booked it for our first night checked in when we still be on West Coast time.

I agree do the DOO

the Mickeys bar be Cue was not worth the money. we also left early, and have no plans to ever do that one again.
The DOO we will do again this year.
Haven't tried the other one yet

We did all three last June and the "Doo" was the best. The backyard BBQ was to crazy trying to get the kids so that they could dance with the characaters. We even had front row seats.

We've only done the BBQ and thought it was just okay. I've heard great things about HDD.

While I'm someone who liked the Barbeque, I do prefer the Doo. Same old corny jokes, but it is fun :).

We love the DOO! Slap stick humor...yes, food not fancy...yes, still very enjoyable, all you can eat ( just keep asking), and beer/wine included...YES! What more can you ask for? I tried to reserve the Spirit of Aloha but the family didn't want to give up Hoop De Doo and I am too cheap to do the DOO, the Spirit, and Cinderella's Castle (mandatory for spoiled, yet cute and well behaved, DD7 and DD4) all in one trip. DD7 has laughed herself silly everytime in the last 3 years. DD4 slept thru the entire show last year. They gave us a refund for her and enough food to feed our whole family a meal when she woke up. I was too fat and happy to partake, though, DD4 got her fill.

If you choose it, I really hope you enjoy it as much as we have. :dance3:

Yup, I have to agree to the Doo. The last time I was at the Luau was in 1983 I think-I'm sure it has changed since then, but it was fun. Did the BBQ a couple of years ago, it was ok, but none of the kids feels the need to do it again. They always ask about the Doo. It has been a few years since we have been. Maybe next time. Corny jokes, foot stompin' fun. I do like Ft Wilderness.

I have not done Mickey's back yard BBQ but I have done the other 2. Hoop Dee Doo is my favorite! It's perfect for people of all ages. Lot's of fun and good BBQ food. I highly recomend it!

It is only certain days in the week and I think it starts around 6:30 in the evening. It is over in Fort Wilderness campground.

i did the back yard bbq and hated it. it was hot dogs hamburgers chicken and cold salads and corn the show was ok country music and line dancing which i love to do but it was out doors hot as you know what and you sit on a picnic table with which is fend for your self service the hdr is cool

We just got back from Disney yesterday and did the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. It was OK. I remember it being better at sometime. The only good thing about the show was the fire baton twirler (I think its the same guy who does the fire baton twirling in the Lion King show at AK). I would do the Doo.

i have been to the aloha show and the hoop dee doo show. the aloha show had the best food., but the place holds a lot of people we were all the way in the back could hardly see the show. the hoop dee doo had ok food but had a pretty good show, it looked like everybody had a preety decent seat to see the show. i havent been to mickeys barbecue if you have kids maybe you will want to go there, if not go to the hoop dee doo show that show kids will like also.

Another vote for the Hoop De Doo. We tried the Aloha, on our last visit, and as mentioned above the food was very good but we also had a table quite a ways back and the show was just a little hard to see. Both were up to Disney standards, in my opinion, but I'd have to give the nod to the Hoop.
