If I don't listen to country music and I don't eat meat, will I still enjoy HDDR? Is there a vegetarian option in addition to the regular dinner offerings, or do I just eat the sides? Is the show funny like Billy Hill and the Hillbillies... or not quite so much?

Anyone want to give me a good idea of what goes on at the show, it would be me and my son, he'll be 7 when we go. Is it an audience interactive type thing, or just a stage show or what???

TIA!!!

I haven gone to HDDR for a while but it was nice but after going to see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies I prefer that. As far as vegetarian things, not sure because I eat the meat and I dont remeber much about the sides except salad plus sangria (not the greatest0) and beer. I would say if you cant eat all the choices I myself wouldnt spend the money but then again that is my opinion :)

We love HDDR. It was a joy to me to go last year with DS and his family as he introduced them to the HDDR. We had gone on his first trip to the World and he wanted his children to experience it as well.
I believe you can request a special meal at the time you make your reservation. You should be able to get a vegatarian alternative, but I am not sure as I have never done this.
The show is great, full of corny jokes and lots of singing and dancing. I can not compare it to your example, as I do not know that.
If you like old western themed entertainment and corny, down home entertainment you will be delighted.
We love it.

;) We just came back from our vacation and we decided to eat there on Friday as our "last dinner":goodvibes Our family had the best time at that place! Corny, yes, but so much fun. :rotfl2:

sorry, can't answer the part about the meal, but overall, would highly recommend this place!!!

The show is basically corney, slap-stick comedy with lots of singing, dancing and audience partcipation. The "Players" are very talented and your 7 YO will probably love it - most kids do :thumbsup2 .

The Trail's End Restaurant is right next door (they may even share a kitchen :scratchin ) so they have access to whatever is on their menu, but only if you request a certain item. I have always requested Mac & Cheese for DD. I have seen pizza being served upon request at HDDR.

It helps when you call to make your reservation that you have your special dietary needs noted so that your server has a heads up.

We are vegetarians and call in advance for a special meal. They'll give you a choice.

I haven't done it for awhile and can't find the phone number, but you have to call Pioneer Hall directly a few days in advance. Just ask CRO for the number when you make the reservation.

It's very sweet and we enjoy it very much. I'm not a big country fan either, but it's not really a country western concert.

Show is corny but cute. Food is awful. We were just there a couple of weeks ago, so this is a recent report.

We went last week and had a great time. DH even got picked to be the part of the Indian which was hilarious. We really enjoyed the food and were able to order a different meal for my picky son so I'm sure they have other choices for vegetarians.

I have to say that I'm glad I was able to get category 2 seating. I did not like how you had to swivel around to watch the show in category 3 and it's kind of just one big long table. It surprised me when I got there since I've never heard it mentioned here before. We were up on the balcony right in the middle and thought we had great seats.

It's a cute show. It's not my favorite, because I grew up in the south and I find anything country and southern and hillybill-ish to be quite annoying. But it is audience interactive, there's singing you can participate in, they pick certain audience members to do things, they might embarass you. I'm sure that you can request a vegetarian meal. I went about a month ago with some friends from out of town, and there were NO vegetables with our meal!!! NO corn, or greenbeans or anything, just the chicken (GOOD), ribs (GOOD), mashed potatoes (GOOD), and we requested macaroni and cheese (GOOD). Oh and they give you cornbreak (YUCKY). There's really just not much of an option with the meal that's included. Anyway, I'm sure you all would have fun. I'd rather go to the Luau personally, but I think you should give it a go.

Hmmm... well, I called today and got an ADR but they only had category 3 for the early shows... I don't want to do the 9:30 show - it's just too late for us. I will keep trying to see if any category 2 tables open up. So the category 3 section is one long table? How is the whole place set up? I am not sure I understand the seating, I know cat 3 is going to be probably the furthest from the stage but there is only one table for it? So is it in the back or on the side of the restaurant? Is the seating all on one level or is it a floor and balcony type place?

I actually forgot to cancel my other dinner ADR which is on the same night, so maybe I'll cancel this one if the seating is that bad. I was planning on calling back in the morning to cancel my original ADR, but maybe I should keep it instead of this one...

You can see a seating chart for the show here http://willcad.org/disney_maps.shtml

On category 3 seating there are only seats on the inside of the table where the balcony is. I guess technically it's not one big long table, but they are so close together that's what it looked like. They did stop the show at times to let people eat, but if you're a slow eater or have kids to help I think it'll be a pain.

We went to the HDDR just a few weeks ago... I was worried that it may be corny and they kids would be disappointed. We had ages 6-19...

This is my families review:

Food: LOVED IT! The cornbread/butter was so soft it was delicious.
Salad: Great (think Olive Garden)
Chicken, baked beans, potatoes, were very good
Strawberry shortcake: Wonderful!

The show was lively and kept you entertained. ALL of our kids lvoved it. Even DS17 and DS19....Everyone had a great time. The characters came up to the balcony (we were seated right in the middle and thought we had great seats) we got pics w/the characters. DDs 6 and 9 enjoyed the washboard they give you to play. I have to say everyone,,, Me, DH, DS19, DS17, DD9 and DD6 walked out w/big smiles on our faces and really enjoyed the show and the meal.

Have to share that DD6 did not eat very much... when we were leaving she said "Man, there was some much entertainment I did not have a chance to eat." ;) She did have time... but she was so enthralled w/everything going on she just didnt pay much attention to eating.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the revues! We're going there in Dec as well and can't wait. Although, along with another poster we could only get Cat 3 seating as well. I think I'll keep trying to change it!

We've been a couple times and loved it both times. We love the fried chicken and ribs, but since you're vegetarian, I won't go into that.

I didn't care for the salad, but I'm not one for Italian dressing. My DW loved it. The cornbread is something straight out of grandma's stove. It was awesome!!!! Unlimited Sangria and draft beer also complimented the show and loosens you up for the finally.

The show is corny with classic songs like "Oh Suzanna", not country western. It's a show type atmosphere. Very comical. The whole family loves the show.

The dessert is a strawberry shortcake and is phenominal. I craved it for a week after we left and am craving it now!

The show wraps up with the servers handing out washboards you get to play with your spoon. I had the privilege of doing so and after numerous drafts...it was apparent I was the best washboard player alive...at least in my eyes! :)

Friends of ours recommended us to this show and said it's their fav. It's now our fav.

As long as you can get a veggie alternative, then I think it would be well worth it!

So category 3 is all of the seats along the sides of the balcony, but only those with their backs to the stage? I will definitely try to change it or cancel it if that's the case...

As they say, "Different strokes for different folks..."

Hubby (AKA John Wayne) and I went in January. I thought the show was cute and sweet and the food was "meh", except for the salad and cornbread. Hubby, who doesn't even get excited at NFL games for HIS team, LOVED IT! LOVED THE FOOD. LOVED THE SHOW. LAUGHED OUT LOUD and even got into the napkin twirling! I pondered whether aliens had taken over his body! (And no it wasn't the wine or beer as he doesn't drink.) It was worth going just to watch him have such a great time.

I know we're out numbered here but we finally tried HDD after 10 years of wanting to go! We had free dining so figured... why not?

We won't bother going back free dining or not. Food was OK... just fried chicken, ribs, beans, salad, cornbread, and the short cake was nasty!

Entertainment... was corny but cute, I suppose. Just not our style.

Trails End next door is MUCH better and a better selection and price.

We went during free dining and made HDDR the last thing for our trip. It WAS THE WORST FOOD OF THE ENTIRE TRIP. The fried chicken was chewy and ribs were just ok, beans were crunchy. The only thing good was the strawberry shortcake. The show was fine, but we all agreed this was NOT worth 2 table services. We like every other place we ate on the trip, but were desperately wishing we had kept our 2 other reservations instead of this!!! Oh, well, only bad eating experience on the trip.

Christine
