We were thinking of going to the HDDR on the same day that we attend MVMCP. It would be a Magic Kingdom day for us so we would be there from very early in the morning. I am hoping to get an early reservation for dinner (I think we went at 4 last time we were there), leave MK to go to dinner and be back around 6/6:30 for the party. Does that make sense or is there a better restaurant option for the night of the party? No one in our traveling party wants to eat dinner in the MK and we will be going to California Grill on a different night. Would it make more sense to eat in Epcot on that day? For reference, we are traveling with 7 adults and 3 kids (under 7). Thanks for any suggestions!

I did this in 2016. Went to the 4pm HDDR show before MNSSHP. I remember getting back to MK by around 6:15pm, plenty of time before the party. Taking the boat to and from was easy. It is definitely doable since it is earlier. On a party night, I never book an ADR later than 5pm and if we do an ADR dinner, it is always at one of the resorts in the MK area or in the park. We aren't big fans of the TS in MK.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

We did Whispering Canyon before the party and loved it! If you want to do HDDR anyway, the timing works out well, but remember you could enter at 4 with JUST a party ticket, so you might want to relax before the party, eat a big lunch, and then head there? Just an idea so it's not so packed of a day. Very early in the morning until midnight is quite a long day, especially with kids.

There is also Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. Probably cheapest buffet on property. Food is very similar to HDDR and Whispering Canyon.
If I remember correctly, there are beach chairs at Ft. Wilderness. I would hit the buffet and then let everyone crash on the beach chairs for a little bit, weather permitting, and then head back to MK.
However, if you aren't worried about the kiddos getting tired or plan to do stroller naps or something, HDDR is great, and you could definitely make it back to the park by about 6:30.

Although HDDR is doable time wise on a MVMCP day I wouldn’t. That is 2 very expensive experiences that overlap a bit. It’s a waste. I also agree with PP. Early morning to midnight is too long for the average adult, let alone kids.
It makes No Sense to travel all the way to Epcot and back for dinner. You are talking hours when you include travel time and eating.
Trails End at FW is a good suggestion or a restaurant where you can eat early on the Monorail.
Personally I would suggest a rest break from the MK for all followed by a late lunch or early dinner before returning to the party and the MK.

I would not want to pack that much "specialness" so close together on one night. For any of the parties we typically eat a late lunch/early dinner somewhere so we can get to the park around 4:00 and start meeting characters. Many times we eat somewhere in MK around 3:15 or so. We don't like to do very much the morning of a party. We typically sleep in and just kind of hang out so we aren't ready to collapse into bed during the party.

Time wise it is definitely doable, you will get to MK around 6:30ish and I think that's fine since party stuff doesn't start until 7:00, unless you are looking to line up super early for one for a popular M&G, in which case you'll need to arrive earlier at MK. Assuming that's not a priority for you though, I actually really like the idea of HDDR before the party and it's not something I had though of before until now. Since you will already have been in the park all day, you aren't caring to take advantage of the 4pm early entry with the party ticket anyway and HDDR gives you a really good chunk of down time to rest and recharge before the party, great idea!

For me personally, I showed up at 4pm for the first party I went to and after that I never bothered going that early again. Now I always do a park during the morning/early afternoon then a couple of hours to recharge at the resort and then show up around 5:00 or so and have an ADR in MK for around 5:30 and then I'm finishing up dinner just as the party is starting and that works well for us. So what you're proposing is really just about the same thing.

your idea works well but if you end up waiting for a second boat which is possible you might be late to the party. just for your info with that many young kids bathrooms for HDDR are outside the Hall

This is my plan as well - except it will be our arrival day so we are just going to check in - maybe swim - explore - get. A 4pm at Hoop-Dee-Doo and then head to the party!
