Our last trip to Disney was in 2011 and we attended the Hoop-De-Doo dinner show and really enjoyed it. We are going back this December and were thinking of doing it again, but I wanted to know if the story line or music has changed any? I have also been to the Luau show in 2008 and was wondering if that one has changed? Thanks for any info.

I have been going to Hoop Dee Do for 20+ years and I can tell you the basic story line is the same. There are a few new jokes but many of the jokes are the same. Claire de Lune, Johnny Ringo, Dolly Drew and Six Bits Slocum still make my family laugh as if it is the first time we have heard them sing "Hoop De Doo".

We have seen the Hoop well over a dozen times over the years and continue to attend.

The show will be a bit different each time, as the cast interacts with the audience, and a couple of songs can change, but overall, it's the same Hoop... and we love it!

As the others have said, it is basically the same. And we love that. There was some change to the opening song, as Disney lost a patent suit. The patent owner sued and won. But that is the only change and many people do not even notice.

We gone many times...as others noted, essentially the same show and meal that changes with audience interaction...Waiting to make our ADR's for December :cool1:

the biggest change in recent years is the Hoop do Doo song. It’s a long and sordid story, but the crux of the matter is the original Hoop Dee Doo Revue featured a song based on a famous Perry Como polka .Alas, all these years later the owners of the copyright on that song demanded Disney pay up, or stop using the song. Rather than fight, Disney has rewritten the title song of the popular show.

And, of course the prices.:thumbsup2

We just love Hoop De Doo!
I think I love that it hasn't changed- I'm a creature of habit and with all the change going on at WDW I love this old reliable. It's familiar and comforting.
I also find the food yummy and the entertainment is a lot of fun

Every trip we usually do one or the other (Hoop Dee Doo or Luau). Every time we go to the Luau we feel like it was a mistake. I love the dances and the guy with the fire sticks but the story line and host is done so hokey it drives us nuts.

We went back to the Hoop Dee Doo last year and still really enjoyed the show and the food. My DD boyfriend and I had a little trouble keeping up with the beer though. Every time we thought we finshed a pitcher another one appeared! :goodvibes I hate to waste the beer so we kept drinking.
The ladies also love the Sangria.

We've been to Hoop Dee Doo 5 times in the last 10 years. Show is always the same. I find myself still genuinely laughing at the same exact jokes. Its the actors, the presentation, the atmosphere, the free beer... that makes it fun over and over again.

What kind of seating is available? Chairs or benches? My daughter and I are planning a trip in December and I've always thought that this sounds like a fun thing to do. I have trouble sitting for any length of time without back support.

Chair seating. I don't remember any benches.

The songs and interaction has changed a bit, but it's always for the best. Like, last time we went, there were a few contemporary "nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?" moments, and lots of little in-jokes. But mainly, it's the 'ole reliable Hoop!

As for Luau - well, my mom says if you want a real luau, go to Hawaii. Which compared to Disney recently, may not be a bad idea! (insert snark here)

Thank you! I've been to similar dinner shows like the Flying J Ranch (or something like that) a long time ago and I remember sitting at picnic tables. Good to know there are chairs instead.

This is a must do each trip and like someone else mentioned, each time is always great and is like the first time! There are no picnic table seating in category 1 or 2 I know that for a fact. Not sure what is upstairs in cat 3 around the balcony. We love HDDR! Booked for. November 13th, cat 1 seating at 6:15!!!

My family and I went to the Hoop De Do a few weeks ago for the first time. We have done the luau before and didn't really enjoy it. In contrast, we all loved the Hoop! It is good fun for all members of the family. My 8 yr. old son had a great time and my 14 year old daughter said it was her best memory of our trip...can't get a better endorsement than that.

Over the years, we have been many many times. We go at least once a year. One time I took a somber 12 year old with lukemia to WDW. He enjoyed it, but rarely smiled, let alone a full fledged grin....until I took him to the Hoop de Doo. This was right up his alley. He laughed and joined in like I never expected. What a wonderful memory!

I dunno Robo. At Disney prices, I could drink a sizable tab in beer. Perhaps in my case it'd be $65 for beer, and "FREE" food.;)

We went for the first time a few weeks ago and managed to get seated front and center right next to the stage. Awesome view, awesome show, awesome food! Although I kept imagining one of the performer's shoes coming off and hitting us in the face, we were so close, haha!
