DH and I returned from our honeymoon (stayed at the Grand Floridian), where we tossed aside the stringent wedding-induced diets in favor of one calorie-laden meal after another. Since I'm now home and no longer experiencing the joy that is ice cream twice a day, I thought I'd relive the savory memories and list my raves (and just okays).
When making the priority seatings, DH was asked if it would be our honeymoon, hence the few perks we got along the way.
Sunday, July 27th (we got married the 26th in Philadelphia)
Victoria and Albert's A+
How do you top a great rehearsal dinner meal followed by a lobster and filet wedding reception where you're the guest of honor? With this exceptional restaurant, that's how! DH said it best: "The best meal of my life." I found the chicken/soft shell crab entree terrific, and the Kona souffle with Valhrona chocolate heavenly! Personalized menus for the new Mr. and Mrs.
Monday, July 28th: MGM
The Brown Derby B+
We lunched here. Excellent Cobb Salad, and a complimentary dessert for our honeymoon!
ABC Commissary
Got the job done for dinner, and kept us out of the one of many downpours. I had fish and chips, and the malt vinegar was plentiful. Yay!
Tuesday, July 29th: Animal Kingdon
Flame Tree Barbeque
My salad in garlic-flavored shell was lackluster, but DH loved his pork sandwich. The diet cokes were gargantuan too.
California Grill A
Easily the second best meal we had here. Pork tenderloin and polenta amazed me, and I'm not a big pork fan. Triple-threat creme brulee also great. We received cute chocolate "congratulations" garnishes on our desserts (yes, desserts plural).
Wednesday, July 30th: Magic Kingdom
Cinderella's Royal Table B
While the food was nothing out of the ordinary (DH had Major Domo's Pie, I had Penne with Chicken), the service was quite nice. We were given a table at the window overlooking the Carousel, where we witnessed yet another downpour replete with ponchoed contenders for the world's record in sprinting. Our table was decorated with Mickey confetti and we were presented with two mugs at the end of the meal.
Citricos A-/B+
I was not as impressed with this restaurant as I expected to be, but that might be because we had a late lunch and I wasn't that hungry (yet still attempted to stuff myself). The shrimp appetizer was yummy, and DH oohed and aahed extensively over his foie gras ravioli. I ate pork and polenta again (really).
Thursday, July 31st: Epcot
Tempura Kiku B
Interesting atmosphere (and watching cooks with REALLY large chopsticks) elevated this from the tempura we get at home in NYC.
Rose and Crown Pub C+
We were a bit disappointed as there was some mix-up with our table (we'd expected to watch Illuminations from here), but the service was friendly enough. Typical fish and chips; nothing bad, nothing spectacular. As Anglophiles we loved it, though!
Friday, August 1st: Magic Kingdom
Tony's Town Square C+
We were serenaded by the barbershop quartet in the lobby, and once again our table was decorated. The bread with sundried tomato dipping sauce was terrific, but the meatball required more knife-action than a tough steak! Go for the Lady and the Tramp/Main Street atmosphere, but not the meatballs (we knew this before, but went anyway!).
Crystal Palace B
This is the only PS we added on the fly--all others were settled a month before. Since we were returning for E-ride night, I asked DH to book a late supper here. I know it's typical buffet fare, but can I just say I loved it? I totally sampled the kiddie fare, even the PB&J. You can take 'em to Victoria and Albert's, but they go back to the chicken fingers every time.
Saturday, August 2nd: Epcot
Cantina San Angel C+
Nice atmosphere sitting outside on the lagoon, but almost a notch below Nachos Bellgrande.
Flying Fish B
We expected to be blown away, but just weren't. I even had the potato-enwrapped red snapper, their signature dish. Maybe we just had gorged ourselves too much by then.
Sunday, August 3rd: DD, Boardwalk
Artist Point A
My third favorite meal. The "adult mac & cheese," as the CM called it, was divine, and only the oversized napkin prevented my tears of joy from getting the berry cobbler very soggy. Beautiful!
I'll leave with some kudos for the yummiest treats we found...
popcorn anywhere (YUM)
the cherry danish in Norway
...and the surprisingly good breakfast at Gasparilla's: this transplanted southerner indulged in grits almost every morning.
Hope some of this has been useful!!!
