HOLY CRAP...Continental EWR to MCO for November...

Yesterday I checked and I think it was $640 so maybe I should be glad it dropped!

There is no way I'm paying $2400 for a family of 4 to fly to Orlando. If these fares don't come down, or Jetblue doesn't come out with something decent, I'm going to either look into other airports or come up w/ another way to get there. We're booked DVC for NJ Teachers' Convention week and I have to use my points or lose them. This will be our first trip "home" and I'd hate to have to explain to the kids we can't go.

I know where you are located is kind of far...but you could check out Allegiant Air out of Newburgh NY. Very small airport, very easy to get too...No traffic. Kind of in the middle of cow country almost. I feel your pain. When getting there costs more than actually being there it is very disheartening. Hope this helps you.

Over the last few years, it's really tough to find cheap air that far in advance. If two months or six weeks before your trip the prices are still that high, THEN I'd recommend hitting the panic button.

A couple of weeks ago I booked EWR to MCO on Continental, leaving Nov 24 and returning on Dec 2, for $202 r/t. That fare is still available.

Stewart Airport in Newburg is a great airport to fly from and it's only 15 minutes from our house, but it would have been $700 more for our family of 5 to fly from there. For $700 I'll deal with the drive and pay for parking. We still save $500.

Flying out of Newburgh around Thanksgiving looks like about $340 pp. Earlier in Nov is a little cheaper.

I've been pricing Jet Blue EWR to MCO for late August for the past few weeks and it has gone form over $300 to 225 a ticket. I'll probably buy them within the next couple of weeks... don't want to take any chances that they will increase again!

I checked the fares for October and Jet Blue has seats for around $250 r/t so I think you will be able to do better than the Continental fare... which will probably come down the closer you get to the fall.

I was at SSR in March for my first trip "home" and it was wonderful!
I'm sure things will work out and you'll have a great time.

We are going in late August and got airfare for $99 each way on spirit (not my choice airline but it is a short flight) out of AC. Far drive, but well below the prices I found out of EWR. If you are willing to drive - you can also try southwest out of phi.

You are looking to book during "Jersey Week", which explains the high airfare. That is the imfamous week when everyone in New Jersey goes to Florida, so no wonder the prices are through the roof. It may be hard to get a good fare, since that is a super popular week for NJ. I have friends who booked two months ago for around $300 a person round trip, and they were happy with that. It may be tough to find something!

Just checked USA3000.com, they have flights to Clearwater/St. Pete from EWR for $99 each way. May be worth the drive.

Check Allentown and Philly--they often ahve lower rates. Newark rates are historically high during "Jersey Week" because the whole state decides to take off for WDW.

I am in precisely the same situation. It's either pay 400 or more for non stop or end up with a six hour journey. Out of JFK is no better.

I'm waiting for Jet Blue. Hopefully, I'll find something decent. If not, I may fly into a different airport in FL as a last resort. We don't rent a car so this presents a whole host of new problems. It seems so dishonest for fares to double or triple simply because "they can".

Yup, that's exactly when we're going. Now we went last year too and paid around $145/rt. We paid $175 on short notice for February this year (2/3-2/6) and $165 for spring break.

So when I had to shell out $197 for September (free dining and hurricane season - 9/9-9/16), I was able to chalk it up to rising air prices due to the oil situation. But almost $600/pp? That's just outrageous and there is simply no way I can even think of justifying that.

I've checked Philly and the prices are no better at this point. I'll have to wait for JetBlue to come out and then if necessary, consider driving to Philly, Baltimore or Islip if Southwest turns out to be the one with the best price.

The entire thing is just really upsetting.

We are going a week from tomorrow and I got fares for 290 on continental from EWR to MCO. It's been fluctuating since we booked a month ago, but now they're up to 330. jetblue was actually more expensive, and Philly and AC were no better. I'm a FF with Continental so I just stuck with that. It's my top choice of an airline too.

I just found delta out of EWR during Jersey week for 198 (one stop in cincy)...it's a 6 hour flight total. I hate flights that aren't direct but that might be an option for you. Continental is listed as 548!! geeeez
