Holidayz Thread

I miss my dad's traditional bread stuffing & I miss my Aunt-In-Law's cornbread dressing. I have both recipes but when I make them, they just don't taste the same. :guilty:

Making cornbread dressing for holidays is a very important thing in our family. The goal is always to make it taste as good as momma's was. After eating the meal, that is the question that is always asked, "was it as good as momma's?"

My mother is from New Orleans and she always fixed eggplant and shrimp dressing.(cornbread ) It was incredible. It wouldn't be the Holidays without it, so I learned to cook it myself.

If ya wanna share the recipe,,I'd certainly like to give it a try,:thumbsup2

I'd be more than happy to share. Didn't think I'd get request for a recipe...going camping till Sunday. Will post it when we get back. :)

Around Thanksgiving, I start feeling festive and nothing puts me inna festive mood better than a holiday recipe,,so heres one of my favorites, you may even wanna make it a family tradition, :thumbsup2

Dutch Oven for the Holidayz !
This has always been one of my favorites.

Heres what you need,,

Beans,,lots of them

Bed

Heavy Blankets

Recipe:
Eat LOTS of beans at Dinner time. Once the beans have had time to digest and simmer in your belly real well,(hope this is close to bed time),,you and spouse retire to sleep for the night.
Just about the time your unsuspecting spouse in in that "not awake, not asleep" state,,
you grab the heavy blanket firmly and yank it up over your spouses head at the same time you are blowing off loud obnoxious gases fumes. Be sure to try and hold the blanket down firmly over your spouses head for full effect. And this is the Dutch Oven !
If this is done correctly, a good time can be had by all.
Remember,,timing is everything.

Oh, and when you least expect it,, your spouse is likely to feed you the Dutch Oven too.

And to think that I actually thought you were going to share a recipe. I was thinking "what a cool idea" and was thinking of the recipe I would share too!

Okay,,,here's a real recipe I'll share..
----------------------------------
Merry Christmas Recipe

1/2 cup Hugs

4 teaspoons Kisses

4 cups Love

1 cup Special Holiday Cheer

3 teaspoons Christmas Spirits

2 cups Goodwill Toward Man

1 Sprig of Mistletoe

1 medium-size bag of Christmas Snowflakes (the regular kind won't do !)

Directions:

Mix hugs, kisses, smiles and love until consistent.

Blend in holiday cheer, peace on earth, Christmas spirits and good will toward men.

Use the mixture to fill a large, warm heart, where it can be stored for a lifetime, (it never goes bad !).

Serve as desired under mistletoe, sprinkled liberally with special Christmas Snowflakes.

It is especially good when accompanied by Christmas Songs and family get-togethers.

Serve to one and all.

Okay,,I mean it this time,,a real recipe,,
stole this from Pirate-Jeff,,thats right, I said stole,(get it, pirate,,stole,,,never mind).
So it sounds like Jeffs Mac and Cheese is all the rage at Grand Gatherings,
so heres the recipe, cause I stole it from Pirate-Jeff ! (Get it now !)( Never mind.)

Best Mac and Cheese and takes less than 25 minutes to make

1 lbs of beef hot dogs
1 pound bow of elbow macaroni
2 tbl spoon of butter or margarine
2 tbl spoons of flour
2 cups milk (I used 2%)
1 tbl spoon ketchup
1 tbl spoon yellow mustard (From a squeeze bottle) not dried or powdered
15 slices of American cheese
3 lbs cheddar cheese (grated)
salt and pepper (to your taste)

Bring 1 gallon of water to a boil in large pot

cut 1 pound of beef hot dogs into 3/8" slices
fry in frying pan until browned.

While browning the dogs in separate frying pan add 2 tbl spoons of butter and melt add 2 tbl spoons of flour and fry for about 1-1 1/2 minutes to get the flour/paste taste out add 2 quarts of milk and simmer until it begins to thicken.

add 1 box of elbow macaroni to the boiling water for 6 -to 7 minutes.

next add American cheese to the rue from above. (since American cheese comes in sliced in 3" X 3" I add about 1" height about 15 pieces) and melt into the rue next I add 1 tbl spoon of ketchup and 1 tbl spoon of yellow mustard and mix in well. Next add 2 1/2 cups of grated cheddar cheese to the rue/sauce add salt and pepper to taste. add drained/fried hot dogs to the mix and stir to mix well

Drain macaroni well and put it back into the dry and empty hot pot you just boiled it in. add cheese sauce and stir well to mix the cheese and dogs with the macaroni. Plate it now (will fill a long casserole dish) sprinkle the remanding 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top. wait 5 minutes and serve

Don't forget the fork

That sounds yummy! But I'm not sure what the ketchup and mustard are doing in there. Can you taste it in the finished dish? Sounds like a good pot luck dish.

Deb will have to answer (or Jeff) that question for you,,Deb is the all time #1 Fan of Jeff's Mac&Cheese,,she knows perfection of the noodle, and claims this recipe to be so. I personally have not yet try'd this delectable joining of condiments, hot dogs, with pasta,,but trust in Debs ability to judge a high quality starchy food when presented to her tastebuds.
I do fully plan on try'n this masterpiece recipe myself one day soon.

Thanksgiving always brings a terrible chore,
'Cause I’m forced to eat and eat some more.
If I don’t eat it up right down to dessert,
I fear the cook’s feelings will be hurt,
So I do my part, even though I suffer;
To help out the others, I’m a belly stuffer.

Amen, Brotherl
