Just got off of the phone with holiday inn and it seems that this hotel has been taken off of their list. they checked my reservation and said that it is still valid and will be with whatever chain takes it over, or I am assuming shipped over to Sheraton Sarfari.
If anyone is down there and can see if anyone is working on that hotel, any info would be greatly appreciated. We were planning on going in May. :confused3

I guess all those reservations for $.01 make a BIG difference in the bottom line.

It is still a DD hotel - so I hope some other nice hotel owners will get it.

I'm going to be going by that way this weekend (if weather doesn't mess up travel plans) and will try and check out construction.

I was thinking about this yesterday - WOW!! I also have reservations for May 2006 - interesting, very interesting!!

We drove by there this past weekend and they still have the Holiday Inn sign up. There were several construction trucks on the scene and they had the parking lot fenced off, but it still looked very much like a Holiday Inn to me. Maybe it's been taken off of the directories because of the ongoing construction?

That is interesting. Now, in my opinion, being sent to the Sheraton Safari may not be a bad thing. I LOVE that hotel. The beds are those sweet sleeper beds and the location is literally right outside the DTD hotels.

We were there just over a month ago and they were heavily into construction (or demolition?). I knew they were doing work from all the reports about the 93 cent reservations, etc... but not a total overhaul.

Might you want to make a back-up in case?

I drove by the hotel tonight. There is still construction going on. Where the restaurant used to be they are putting a new roof on. The sign still says Holiday Inn outside.

To add to the other posts about the construction there appears to be a little guard house where you drive up to the hotel, thought I saw a guard in it. A good part of one of the parking lots on one side of the hotel seemed to have construction stuff in it. Some heavy duty work going on.

Thinking back a year or so I remember walking into this hotel to use their office center and there was extesive remodeling going on in the interior section off the lobby, at the time the employee I was tallking to said just some remodeling and it wouldn't take that long, this was just after the hurricanes. I guess somebody decided to do a lot more work.

I wonder what the financial hit is when a hotel is kept closed for this long.

Very interesting. I phoned my Holiday Co as they had removed this hotel from brochure - after pressing them they confirmed that the Hotel Contract had not been renewed but I was assured that my booking would be honoured!! Now I am not yet too concerned because I am not due to go until late 2006 - but would rather know sooner than later if I have to change hotels. My last communication with Holiday Inn WDW confirmed that they were carrying out a 6 mill $$ renovation (which was one of the reasons I chose that hotel)! HI only took the hotel from Marriott just before the Hurricanne in 2004 which closed the hotel - I wonder if it is true that they have sold it again?. Wyndham just acrross the Rd changed hands last year as well!! I shall watch this thread with great interest.

Anyone know anything about the Holiday Inn DTD????

Has it been sold or are they reopening it???

I have a reservation for May and I still see my reservation online and I haven't heard a single word from them since last summer.

Wwll the saga continues. My holiday company have removed this hotel from brochure, but I am assured my holiday will be honoured at that hotel (!). I have tried to contact the hotel by E Mail and fax - no response. Rang Holiday Inn Reservations to be told that the hotel and been "temporarily removed from the booking system". So, as a final attempt I have sent a letter airmail to the hotel direct. That was over a week ago but will hold out a little longer for a reply! I specifically wanted to go ther as HI advised me that it was having a $6million refurbishment and the only "old" left standing would be the main structure!. If you hear anything please post a message - thanks. :sunny: :sunny:

I drove by there yesterday and it looked like the outside work was done. The scaffolding was gone, the outside looked new. There were still some big construction size dumpsters available. The last time that I actually talked to someone was about four months ago, but they said at that time it was removed from their system to keep their agents and people from booking rooms or giving people hope that it would be open "soon". If you hear anything, please let us know. Anxiously awaiting too.

Hi, any more news on this hotel?

Its still showing up on the Holiday Inn website but still cant make reservations for it.

Anyone know when it opens up? I'm hopeing it to be open by July and there will be some good opening specials!!

Well, I wrote to the hotel 2 weeks ago - sent airmail - no reply as yet. I had already E mailed / faxed and spoken to HI reservations but got no joy. I hope to get an answer soon and will let you know. Now, I have been onto a couple of websites just to play around and whilst the description still suggests it is closed I have managed to get bookings for rooms in November 06 - description of them says "totally remodelled" - I did not go as far as booking them, but, my guess is that perhaps the hotel is getting ready for opening. If you hear anything before me - please let me know - thanks.

me again, I just got an automated reply from jamie.foss@ihrco.com which said

I will be out of the office begininning on January 15, 2006 and returning on January 27th. If you need immediate assistance please contact Ken Weder Director of Housekeeping at 407-202-5999.

So i guess if anyone is willing to call (i live outside US) that number we might get an answer soon!
