Holiday dips

I have one of those crockpots that has three small crocks in it. I always have smokies in BBQ, meatballs in grape jelly/chili sauce mix, and jalapeno chicken dip (I have Tostito's Scoops for this!).
This is called Jalapeno Chicken though it is not hot and you can leave the jalapenos out and it is still good. It is also a pseudo recipe. I never measure.

Shredded chicken (I shred a whole chicken)
A large container of sour cream
a bag of shredded cheddar (I shred an 8 oz block)
diced jalapenos
frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained well)

Shred your chicken, add in the spinach, a few spoonfuls of the jalapeno (how much depends on how hot you like it), mix in the sour cream and add the cheese. I then heat it in the oven at 350 for around 20-30 minutes until hot.

For holidays/hosting events, I keep it hot in a crockpot. I serve with tortilla chips. We like the bowls. For Thanksgiving I make a double batch since the guys eat it up first. This freezes well too.

And I make savory shrimp crostini though I leave off the shrimp for me. I could live on this dip. I love it. http://www.publix.com/aprons-recipes/hearty-appetizers

I just bought that crockpot that has the 3 separate crocks and was looking for ideas for it. Thanks!!!

Here are three of my favorite dips/spread:

I make a great Sweet Mustard Pretzel Dip served room temp.

8 oz. Mayo
1/4 cup Yellow Mustard
1/4 cup Sugar
1 Tbl Garlic Powder

Mix and set in fridge for a few hours or overnight. Dip mini pretzels or cut up veggies in it.

Another tasty dip is a Cream Cheese Scallion Spread for crackers:

1 block softened cream cheese
2 green onions (scallions) thinly sliced
1 or 2 tsp garlic powder (to your taste)
2 Tbl honey (add 1 Tbl if you want it less sweet)

Mix together and form a ball. Refrigerate until firm and then either roll it in or sprinkle Kretchmer's Wheat Germ or crushed nuts, whichever you prefer. You can also just serve it in a small bowl if you don't want to make it into a ball. Best served at room temp (easier to spread).

And of course there is always the Ro-tel/Velveeta Warm Queso Dip. Yummy!!!

I don't know the name of it…

beanless chili, cream cheese and shredded cheese (I use mexican shredded). Just heat it all together. It's supposed to be a layered dip, but I mix it all up. To me, it tastes much better (it's a really different taste mixed vs unmixed).

I just made a buckeye dip (from pinterest) that the kids loved. it supposed to be served with graham crackers, which I didn't have, so I cut up an apple. It was awesome.

there's another peanutbutter/honey dip I'm going to try tonight (pinterest again). I think it's pb, honey and vanilla greek yogurt.

I just bought that crock that has the 3 crock inserts and was looking for ideas for it. Thanks!!!

There are plenty of things out there. I have found that the guys we host tend to like warm apps to the cold. And these are always a big hit. I also like that I can premake things in the weeks before instead of the week of. I already have my meatballs done and in the freezer. I will be making the jalapeno chicken on Sunday.

I love having things pre done. Makes T-Day much easier!!! Our gang likes the warm dips too and I can't wait to use that 3 crock crockpot. I hate when the hot dips get all gummy when they cool off. Definitely going make the queso dip and the meatballs and going to try your jalapeno chicken!!!

I make a BLT dip that everyone always loves.

8 oz. sour cream
8 oz. real mayo
4 Roma tomatoes (cut out insides, throw away and dice the rest)
1 pkg Oscar Meyer bacon bits (they are in a bag, not the hard ones in a jar)

I usually double it and serve with Wheat Thins.

I was going to post this one, too! It's a winner.

Here's and oldie but a goodie; while not difficult, it's a bit time consuming:

7 Layer Mexican Dip

we have the recipe for olive garden's warm spinach artichoke dip. we do it up in a crockpot and have plenty of chunks of sourdough for dipping:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 another favorite is 'killer bread' which involves mixing mayo, fresh chopped garlic and parmesan cheese, then spreading it onto an already lightly toasted split French roll. put into the oven under the broiler for a few minutes and they puff up and brown into delicious bites. the addition of a sprinkling of fresh basil make it a memorable treat.

since there always seems to be an absence of veggies (with the exception of those just used as dipping sticks) I like the addition of appetizer salads such as

caprice salad kabobs-just alternate on a bamboo skewer cherry tomatoes with close in size balls of mozzarella, add 2 leaves of fresh basil and repeat. put the skewers on a serving plate and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. very tasty and very refreshing (healthy as well).

I've never been fond of the small wieners in bbq sauce, but I think that's because growing up in our home we had kielbasa cut into chunks that were then put into a pot to simmer overnight in beer. these would be taken out with a toothpick and dipped into stone ground mustard:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

For those of you that don't have time to *make* a dip but want one, I just want to say that the Hanna's Tsatziki Dip sold at Costco is AWESOME. Even in comparison to some homemade dips. I am real hot and cold on tsatziki dips--some have mint in them which I don't like, some are too heavy on the deal, etc.

This one's made with Greek yogurt, has a nice tang to it, good chunks of cucumber in it. It's actually quite addictive. Goes very well with the "Food Should Taste Good" multigrain chip/tortilla.

So, if you need something quick, I can vouch that it's very good.

I don't have the 3-crock crock pot. BUT, I'm really thinking of getting one. Usually on Christmas Eve, we get together at my brother's house for more of an appetizer/snack fest than a regular big meal. It's usually my family, his family and maybe a couple of his friends that stop by. Everyone usually brings a hot appetizer or snack of some sort. I think this would be great to use. But I have a couple questions about it. Where to get one? About how much are they? Any specific brand I should get? How much food can one of the crocks hold? And with 3 different hot apps, how many people can it feed? Thanks.

Not that I need it but I do like a good Tsatziki Dip. :thumbsup2

This is a spin on a dip, but people loved it last Christmas. I sliced up green and red peppers and piped a dollop of hummus on it with a large star shaped tip. It looked so pretty and was very healthy. We usually have lots of very heavy cheesy dips, so this is a nice option.

Our favorite dips are the following:

Fiesta cheese dip:
ground beef
taco seasoning
rotel
yellow rice
mexican velveeta or the queso velveeta

Make tacos according to taco recipe. Make yellow rice according to the recipe. Add the rotel and yellow rice. Once it is mixed add in the velveeta in cubes. Simmer in the crock pot. I make it on the stove rather than the crock pot because it is faster. We eat it with tortilla chips.

Cheesey Dip (what we call it)
Whipped cream cheese
cheddar cheese
colby jack cheese
havarti cheese
parmesan cheese
bacon bits (I usually make my own, but if you don't have time but the real ones not the hard ones.)
(If you like spicy add a can of green chilies)

One container of whipped cream cheese and had a handful of all the other cheese and a handful of bacon bits. Mix together. I am lazy and place it in a pretty bowl rather than make it into a ball. We eat it on crackers of any sort.

I also use the same cheese recipe to make the filling for homemade jalapeño poppers.

I make popper dip that everyone loves!

1 pkg cream cheese, softened
1c mayo
1 small can diced green chilies
1 small can diced jalapeños
Shredded Parmesan cheese or panko crumbs

Mix first 3 ingredients together, then add jalapeños to taste. I like spicy, so I use the whole can for us. My DH's family aren't as adventurous with their palate, so I use half a can or a bit more for big family gatherings. Mix thoroughly, pour into 8" round baking dish. Sprinkle top with Parmesan or bread crumbs, bake in 375° oven for about 20 min, until top is brown and dip bubbly. Serve with cracker or tortillas. Tastes just like jalapeño poppers! Everyone loves it, even the non spicy people. ;)

Boudin dip 8 ounce sour cream 8 ounce cream cheese 1/2 cup fresh green onions, chopped 3 links boudin Directions: Place links in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes or until warm (cover while you heat). Mix sour cream, cream cheese, and green onions in a medium size bowl. Remove boudin from the casing and mix with the with sour cream mixture. Serve with your favorite crackers or chips.

My DBF would LOVE this! I will have to make it for him!

Brownie batter dip and funfetti dip! All thanks to Pinterest :)

Yum, brownie batter - I will have to look at that up and pin it to try this year.

Fruit dip! Use for dipping apple slices, strawberries, etc.

1 can of marshmallow fluff
1 8oz container strawberry cream cheese

Mix together. Simple, and people love it! It was a hit at a high school potluck.
:)

One of my favorites!

My go-to dips are usually the spicy cheese dip (chili & Velveeta), buffalo chicken dip, or some form of spinach/artichoke dip. Costco makes lots of good dips. DH loves their spinach/artichoke but it's a little too garlicky for me.

Our favorite dip is:

Pork Sausage Dip:

2 pkgs- Jimmy Deans Pork Sausage (original or Hot if you want to really kick it up!!)
2 pkgs- Cream Cheese
2 cans- Rotel tomatos and Chilies

Brown pork sausage, drain fat
Add in Rotel and let simmer for awhile (I usually let is sit for 10-15 mins stirring occasionally)
Melt in cream cheese.

Serve with tortilla chips. We usually keep in warm in a crock-pot and everyone LOVES it. It will have a slight kick without the Hot pork sausage, but some people like to make it extra spicy.

Another goody is:

Beer Dip

2 pkgs Cream Cheese (softened)
1/3 cup of beer
1 envelope of Ranch dressing mix (the dry pkg)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Mix it all together in a bowl and serve with pretzels. I mess around with the amounts (sometimes a little more beer or more cheese).

***DISCLOUSRE.... we are from WI and we love our beer and cheese ;-)

Thanks everyone for sharing the recipes!! I'm definitely going to try several of them for the upcoming holidays.

My boys will love them!! :thumbsup2
