Holiday Autos (Alamo) half price on 12th Jan

I have also had a look and it is cheaper than elsewhere but not by much which must have meant they were quite expensive to begin with.
I searched via the serach buttons on the left first but realised after there was a sale area to search through.

Makes no difference to my search, either from main home page or sale search, both same prices. 1st price they give is not too bad but when you add all extras to get to same cover as other sites they are v expensive for me.

US Carhire is still working out as the best value for us on their gold cover. As you say once you add the extra insurance on it prices them out.

I have just got a quote of £430 for a 12-seater Chevrolet Uplander (or similar) for our October holiday. Looks to be a pretty good deal - was £800+ last week. I will be checking again when I get home tonight as I can't book it at work and if it is kosher, I will definitely be booking - thanks for the heads up Graeme :thumbsup2

The sale made no difference to my price either :confused3

Now I have had a better look, it looks as though an amount of £38.50 is added automatically (quoted as Standard Damage Excess Waiver). I must admit, all these extras confuse me slightly - the top whack seems to be something called Cancellation Waiver Protection as well as additional driver and full tank of fuel for £490, which still seems a better price than I have gotten so far.

Could one of the experts on car hire check it out for me and confirm that the price I'm getting is correct as I'm confused as to why I'm getting such a good price when no one else seems to be.

The dates we require are 19th Oct 09 to 2nd Nov 09 (pick up and drop off at 1630). We need a 12-seater (there are 9 of us) and 1 additional driver would be handy but not bothered about any other extras like GPS or tank of fuel etc.

Mine's come down from £245 to £221. With yescarhire, which I hadn't looked at, it's £205!!! Have you used these before Wayne or was it just a price check. I'm going to take that if anyone can vouch for them.

I am sure someone will check it out for you - I had the same problem and found it wasnt such a good deal but that is a great price Joh :thumbsup2

Me too. I have also just checked out Yes car and they work out nearly £60 cheaper than US Car Hire for a 7 seater mini van.
The like for like quote inc ins with Holiday Autos was £500.50 :sad2:

Joh, just had a quick look, maybe wait until tonight and check again, something does not seem right with the prices. If you look at your rental its asking crazy prices for add ons like £490 for GPS:scared1:
Personally I don't like the site, I prefer others that give you a toatl price and you know what you are getting, not sure with this one.

Never used them but its a company I added to my faves after people keep posting about them. Have you done a search see if you can find any reviews on them?

I think this is right;

When you get the initial search results screen, each car will have an 'excess>' symbol next to it. Move your cursor over that and it will tell you what the excess is for your vehicle. Mine says, 'Less than 100usd'.
The standard damage excess waiver means that if you damage the car you still need to pay the excess but you can claim it back. It has exclusions though, such as interior, windows etc. If you want it with no exclusions it is the Total Damage Excess Waiver, at about double the price.
I never take it as it seems £30 wasted if I don't have any damage and only $100 if I do.
Just looked again and if you click on th 'terms and conditions' link under the extras bit it opens a fresh screen straight to the different excess waiver bits.

I saw that - it seems ludicrous but I ma trying to establish what this Cancellation Waiver Protection is? :confused3 If it's something which normally comes as standard with places like usrentacar etc. then obviously it means the price is ridiculous at almost £1000 including the add-on. But, if it's not necessary, then it still leaves me with a more than reasonable £468.50 for the fortnight, which is great. Why does car hire have to be so confusing?

I don't take much notice of review sites as IMO people are more inclined to do one if their experience is extreme, either one way or the other, and you have no way of knowing what their benchmark for the review is. Take this as an example http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews107199.html

:rotfl: :confused3 :rotfl: :confused3
Two terrible, four fantastic, and one who didn't understand the fuel situation. I'd rather listen to someone who's opinions I valued, and who can tell me what they're comparing against.

I have just checked the reviews for Yes Car Hire, the downside is that your receive loads of promotional e-mail after (which I can deal with) and one individual didn't have the car available that he booked in Madeira. Most would re use them again though.

Sorry, I meant a search on Dis, see if others on here had given their opinions, rather than a general search.
Agree though reviews will be mixed, all rental companies and agents haev theri faults and off days you can find good and bad reviews for them all.

I agree. I would rather listen to the reviews of other Dis members than take the reviews that I read on the internet. Take Trip Advisor as an example. Some think one hotel was fantastic and the other 50% think it was awful.

I have used US Car Hire in the past and would recommend them again. I would be intersted to hear others opinion on Yes Car Hire though.

Having done a bit of research on car hire now, I am happy that the Holiday Autos price includes everything I need - however, now my concern is that the vehicle it is quoting for is a Chevrolet Uplander (or similar) - I cannot find any Chevrolet Uplander that seats 12 so is it likely that I will actually end up with a 12 seater minivan or are there other vehicles (people carrier type) that seat 12?

When I saw the picture it looked small for a 12 seater, but if their quote is for 12 seats surely thats what they have to provide, their loss if they get it wrong, as long as your print out says 12 seater and not just a model name or similar.
Like you say why does car hire have to be so complicated?

It'll be the size of car you're booking, not the model. If you're saving that much I'd go for it. As long as your booking says 12 seats, that's what you'll get.
