Holding acct points question?

We currently have 2 reservations booked, August 3-10 and November 29 -December 5. We made some changes to the August reservation resulting in 9 points going into our holding accout.

Is there anyway to swap points around to use those up? What if (assuming availability), I cancelled 1 night of my August trip booked with current year's points, and then immediately re-booked using my holding acct points first and the remainder current year. Then, I would have 9 points left in my current use year.

Would this work? I know it's only 9 points, but hey - that could be 1 night in a studio, right? I'd hate to just lose them.

Yes, you could do as you suggest except there is one problem. You are within 30 days of your August trip so anything you cancel would go into holding.

You could try the scenario for your November trip. At the 60 day mark call and see if you could cancel and re-book with the holding points.

Okay, so if I call anywhere between the 60 and 31 day mark, that might work, right?

You can "swap" the points in the 60-31 day window. Just call MS and tell them you are trying to "reallocate your points to use up the holding points". They will tell you if it is possible/available. You don't actually have to cancel, it's a behind the scenes switch they can make for you
