We are going to have to book our hotel for our DL stay the beginning of Feb/09. I have heard outstanding things said about both these hotels over the past months, and am undecided on which to book. I know I can't go wrong either way, but would like some imput from some of the DL veterans on the board. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated, and will help in making my final decision on which hotel to book. Have a great day!!

Both are really popular and don't think you would have a bad stay at either.

HoJos
- Significantly cheaper with Ent rate
- Slightly closer to walk
- Bigger Rooms
- Pirates water play area

CCI
- Dedicated shuttle (Hojos only has ART)
- Breakfast

Kiwi stated it in a nutshell. I'd stay at HoJo, if the Ent rate is available for your dates.

Well after several very good stays at HoJo's over an 18 year period, our last stay we checked out early and moved hotels. We got one of the older rooms, that did not have a good bed or shower and was in a bad location (to us) in the hotel. There were a couple of other things as well that I've gone into in other posts on the forum so won't do it again....During this period of time we've also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel (LOVE IT) where we moved to from HoJo's for almost the same price with our annual pass discount. And also at what is now called Sheraton Park Hotel and loved that too. This coming trip we are trying out the Candy Cane Inn. I would rather pay a bit more and have a really comfortable bed, and a nice room with a good shower. So basing a stay on getting the entertainment rate for the room we had would never be worth it to me. We are getting the Candy Cane Inn for a LOT less than HoJo's, and Candy Cane Inn has a breakfast and their own shuttle which is free. HoJo's is the ART which costs $4per person per day and you share with the other hotels, which makes the trip home at night way too long. I'll be posting after our stay next month, hopefully pictures as well.

I find it interesting that you found the CCI cheaper than HOJO's. I've been checking with both hotels the price for a 6 night stay, and am finding HOJO's to be about on average of $40.00USD cheaper. What I personally think is a major joke is that CCI claims that they have a discount for BCAA members. When I asked them about it, and got the discount code, it turns out that there is no savings at all (maybe $10.00USD at the most, or not at all). So IMHO they shouldn't offer a discount, where there isn't any. Have to book the hotel by the end of Dec to keep the good deal I'm getting at HOJO's. If CCI were to drop their prices to be competitive to HOJO's I might seriously consider booking with them. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $40.00USD to book a hotel to get the "free" breakfast. Am still pretty much on the fence on which hotel to book, but am finding all your comments helpfull in making my final decision. Thanks for all your imput on both hotels. Have a great morning!!

Stayed at Hojo's for the first time last Aug - based on all the good reviews on this board, and Lorealle's fantastic customer service before our trip. We got the Ent rate of $74 per room, facing the pirate water play area and the Matterhorn and fireworks. The beds were very comfy, room was clean, and we had a mini fridge and microwave, so we made breakfast in our room most days. The walk to the parks is not long at all, and we spent 12 to 14 hrs per day there and walked back late at night with our 7 year old DD. I would definitely recommend it!

I would recommend Hojo's if you have kids. Candy Cane is not very kid friendly. The pool holds 10 kids max comfortably and is only heated when the motel begins to fill enough to make it worthwhile to heat. We had some other problems also with CCI but that's another story;)

Wow, what kind of discounts are you getting? Myst be pretty darn good!:goodvibes

As for us, we got quoted $474 for 4 nights this past week at the CCI, and $272 at the HOJO for the same nights... That is with the Entertainment card rate at HOJO and the AAA discount at the CCI.

We have stayed at both in the past 2 months, and both have pros and cons. Here's the difference IMHO:

HOJO:

no breakfast
walking distance
really cool pool!
Entertainment card discount
Water in the shower stays warm--- no going hot/cold on you!
bigger rooms than CCI

CCI:

Free breakfast
Water in shower goes hot/cold and back again constantly
walking distance
Super comfy beds
Smaller rooms
Dedicated shuttle with certain times (unlike the ART) leaving the hotel on the hour and half hour, picking up from the parks at 15 and 45 of the hour...

It all depends on what you are looking for, but both are great! If only CCI would have better discounts, I would stay there everytime!!!

Well the fact of the matter is, for the Candy Cane Inn for Dec.31-Jan.5 we are paying a total of 699. for their Deluxe room which is larger, has 2 queen beds and comes with breakfast. At HoJo's a room in the courtyard with 2 double beds (which the 4 of us could not even sleep in) for the same dates as of tonight is 793. that's a hundred dollars for a not nearly as nice rooms with smaller beds and no breakfast. Add on the fact that CCI has their own private shuttle you do not have to pay for, and HoJo has the ART which is $4. per person per day which would add on another $80 to the price. And jsut to compare apples to apples, for a standard room at Candy Cane Inn, which still at least has Queen beds, the price for the 5 nights would have been $631. Checking their site tonight, I see they have bumped up the price for 2 of the nights stay, but it is still a lot cheaper than HoJo's. They both have free parking. Here's a copy and paste from HoJo's site

NDD1/Balc/NS/2 Doubles/5 People Max/ Standard/NO Disney View/Courtyard/ Fridge/Coffeemaker/Hairdryer/Internet
Occupancy: 5 people max

Sun. 01/04/09 USD 104.00

and a copy and paste from my email confirmation.... which reminds me, I better print it out and bring it just in case, seeings how 2 of the nights are now a bit more! I'm glad we booked when we did. Also, unless you have the entertainment book price, the price for the standard room at CCI (with 2 queen beds) is still $10. a night less than the standard room at HoJo's after January 4th the entertainment rate was/is not available for the nights we are there.

It all depends on what you are looking for, but both are great! If only CCI would have better discounts, I would stay there everytime!!!

You forgot to mention that the ART is $4. per person per day, so for a family of 4 that's an extra $16. per day. and the entertainment rate only does you good if you are going when it is available. The shower we had in our last room at HoJo's in July was absolutely horrible. very small, and dingy with really bad water pressure. Like I've said before, we've had many good stays there, so I was shocked to have gotten such a bad room.

You know, I've stayed at the CCI once, loved it!! BUT the beds sucked.....I don't get it, you guys are saying the beds at CCI are better than the brand new pillowtops at HoJo?? Makes NO sense to me at all.....I've stayed at the HoJo...oh man, I don't know but at last 8 times last year.....the only drawback was one rude guest, otherwise it's been great every time!

That said, IF the HoJo has no rooms for my nights at the Ent Rate (I only stay there at the Ent Rate of $59 or $69) then I always check the CCI because I LOVE the free breakfast and free shuttle. :) As for ART....why take the shuttle from the HoJo?? It's a 7 min. walk from the HoJo to the security gates.....definitely walkable IMO. :)

We are going to DL in February just my husband and I and we have been looking at hotels too. We had it narrowed down to DLH, HoJo or CCI. We ruled out the DLH too expensive even with AP rate. So then it came down to the HoJo and CCI. We've stayed at the Hojo before and decided that with the price difference between the two that this time we would try the CCI. As you can tell from my Signature we like to try new hotels. Since it is just the two of us we don't need a ton of room and even the walk from the CCI isn't that far in my opinion (we walk the Residence Inn when we stay there).

The trouble is... the new pillow tops are only in the premium rooms in building one, you can check this right at the HoJo's own forum. So...unless you are lucky enough to be going at a time when you can get a room in that building with the entertainment rate, then you are going to be paying a premium for that room! When I booked our holiday, those rooms were going to cost us $159 per night before tax! And I do know how nice their good rooms are, the trip before this last one we stayed there, in building one on the top floor on an awesome pillow top bed! but this last trip, we were paying a high rate for a really bad room with a horrendous bed! If I were going to pay that much, I would just go over to the Disneyland Hotel. I've read in another post from someone else that the beds at CCI were super comfy... :confused3

Let's see, I've stayed in bldgs 1, 2 and 4 at the HoJo. Mostly in bldg 2 (that was where we were way in the back and I could hear the freeway) and I've never had issues with the beds. The most uncomfortable ones were in bldg 4, those are the pavilion rooms and they are supposed to be the last to be upgraded. Anyway, the rooms I had in bldg 2 were just as nice as the two times we stayed in bldg 1. :) The bed at the CCI was not horrible, but it was definitely NOT as comfy as the ones at the HoJo. It was probably about the same as the bed in bldg 4 at the HoJo. I just think it's interesting how some people like some beds and others don't. kwim? For $159 I wouldn't stay at HoJo either....LOL I'd much rather stay elsewhere for that price. :)
