I am having a hard time making up my mind on where to stay, I would really like to stay at DLH but its approximately 1,000 dollars more then if we stayed at HoJo.

I could do it financially but I am having a hard time justifiying the extra cost, thats a lot of tigger tails!

Can I get some pros and cons?

If it were me I would take the extra $$ you will save by staying at Hojo's and extend your vacation! Either that or go all out on souvenirs.

No matter what you decide, have a great time!

I am leaning that way, my DD loves to collect pins and DS has a thing for build a bear and he wants to hit the one in DTD.

Have you heard all about the new Pirate themed pool with slide that they are putting in at the HoJo this summer? I think that combined with the new pillowtop mattresses, micros in the premium rooms and overall excellent customer service (not to mention the HUGE savings) should make the decision a no brainer.

Take the extra money and do something really special like a character meal, a tour, or Fantasmic reserved seating.

Well our last two trips were DLH in 2005 in a Concierge room, and Hojo last week. We stayed at the Hojo in a Premium view room for the Entertainment rate of $74 a night. I loved it and would stay there again over the DLH--we paid a fortune for the concierge level and even then it didn't make the DLH the greatest.

For the Hojo price, you can't beat it. The walk, although not a "themed" one, felt shorter to me to the gates than our walk from the DLH did. Perhaps because it's so quiet if you cross the street at Manchester and take the short cut. Never anyone in front of you. The staff is excellent. It's clean, convenient and very nice. The beds were super comfy. We were in the tower with the store in the lobby and we used it for many things. It's so much faster. At the DLH it's so big, you have to wait for elevators and a long check in line, etc. And the view! While the Hojo views are obscured by their fine landscaping, we had a view of the Matterhorn's waterfall perfectly through our trees, could see the Monorail go by, and had terrific views of DCA sun wheel, ToT, and California Screamin from our balcony.

I completely agree with the previous posters. We thought about spending our last night at the GCH just for fun, and one night at the GCH in a "parking lot/construction view" room would have cost MORE than our entire five nights at the Hojo. Gotta look at priorities and for us, we were happier to drop a lot of money on nice dinners in DTD and on souvies than one night in a room that we were hardly in.

Well, we really like staying onsite. If I can afford it, and it doesn't squeeze any other part of our trip, then we go for it. But if it's going to make it a shorter stay, less money for fun stuff, then we stay offsite. We always have a great time staying offsite too.

This time we wanted to go for a whole week, add in an extra day for Universal Studios. So we're doing 5 nights at Hojo's, and then for a treat the last night at the DLH. Best of both worlds that way! :)

Hmm...if you haven't yet stayed on site maybe doing it like Jen is the way to go, if you can stand packing and unpacking! That way you save money and don't have to worry about missing out.

That's a tough call. $1,000 is a lot but how many days will you be there? For a shorter trip the HoJo is great but the walk gets a little old after a few days.

The HoJo is cleaner though IMHO and with the new pool and upgrades, it's a far better deal.

Thanks for all the responses, I am leaning towards Hojo. I have been working more hours lately and thought it would be fun to splurge for DLH but after pricing everything out I think I would rather have a cushion of cash for extras while on vacation.

I talked with my DD about it last night. One of the main reasons I wanted to stay at DLH was for her. This might be our last vacation before she graduates in 09 and leaves home for the Marines and I want the vacation to be special.

She is fine with staying off property. She would rather have more souivener money.

We are going to be in DL for 6 nights. If I stay at Hojo we can do the Fantasmic Dessert seating and go to either Knotts or Universal for one day.

Our plan is to fly down to San Diego on Oct 18th see the zoo then drive up by Legoland stay the night and see Legoland on the 19th then drive up to DL and fly out of Orange County on the 25th.

Anyone have any hotels they would recommend around Legoland?

I have never stayed at Hojos (so my opinion is totally one sided! ) but we love staying at the Disneyland Hotel. To us, staying there is just as important an element in our trip as going to the park itself. I realize everyone is different, though.

We always spring for an upper tower view, and everything about the place just seems like Disneyland to us. My husband doesn't take many vacation days throughout the year, so we want to take the one we take special--and for us that means staying at the DLH.

The one negative I have heard about HOJO's (my friend who stayed there said this, and I have read it many times) is the noise from the freeway that is RIGHT next to it is very loud. That would drive me crazy! She said that she couldn't sleep the 4 nights they were there. Some towers are probably worse than others, I would assume.

I do! The West Inn & Suites is fabulous and they shuttle you right to Legoland for free (no parking fees!). They have an incredible free hot breakfast and cookies and milk at night and their beds are HEAVENLY. I can't rave enough about this hotel, and I heard about if from another Diser! :goodvibes

Just a comment about the freeway noise. We stayed in bldg 1 with the view of the Matterhorn and had no noise issues at all, we also stayed in bldg 2 (which is in the back near the freeway) and we had no issues there either. I haven't stayed at DLH but I can say that the HoJo is comparable to PP for our family.

Dangermouse and I are on the same page, I totally second the West Inn and Suites. It is FANTASTIC. We stayed there in January. Totally deluxe, with free breakfast, and the staff couldn't be nicer. The prices were very comparable or better than a lot of other places we looked at. And, we got a two King room....I think that is the only time we've ever had that luxury. We enjoyed the pool too. It is about a 2 minute drive to the Legoland parking lot. It's a business hotel I think but they are sooooooo welcoming to families too. They treated us very special. They have a great library/TV room and eating area for the breakfast.

BTW, I didn't hear ONE noise at the Hojo. Granted we sleep with the fan on but usually I still need earplugs in hotels because of noisy families and doors slamming, etc. Not ONCE on this trip!! I don't know about the little buildings, but if you are in the tall building (#1?), if you have a premium room facing Harbor and Disneyland I doubt you would have a problem.
